I am obviously talking about if they decided to change the way things are done in the NFL not how it currently is. Yes as is I agree with you,
Dramatic changes is what needs to happen, and it could. Remember pre free agency? Pre instant replay? There was a time they had 12 game seasons, 14 rounds in the draft, so dramatic changes can happen.
This paying anyone 40 million to play football is ridiculous.
dramatic changes did happen. thats why the owners and player union sat around the table and came to an agreement. Owners didn't want a run away salary (specially by a few big market teams) or similar to baseball or basketball. so they agreed to give certain percentage of revenue to the players and that's the annual salary cap (this year I believe its 198 million). so each team can spend 198M in salary on their players each year...that assures owners of a large percentage of the profits and assures players get money for their services. then the money or salary is devided between the players in each team based on contract and percieved value of that player to the team.....
so times have changed....it had to...NFL makes over $8B per year and its about to get to the 10, 12, 14 range..... so its not the same business that it was before, thus it can't operate the same way.....
why is it ridiculous to pay someone 40M....the goal of each team is to win the superbowl...and each team gets exactly the same amount of money to spend and those who can put the best team together end up in the superbowl....
I think its actually a much better system than NBA or Baseball, where Alex Rodriguez got 10 year 500M contract. all gauranteed.
