More proof : Dak thread

All? As in...Dez Bryant? Because Witten retired and butler had 317 yards in 13 games lol

People are very hung up on the WRs taking a big step back and I just don't see it. I'm not saying this group will set the league on fire but you can't take a step back when your back is against the wall. Our "2017 star WR" is unemployed.

Quite a list. We struck gold in the 4th.

Go look at the passer rating drop-off when is it 3rd down and 6+, 8-10, 11+ compared to guys like Brady and see if you still want to claim "proof".

Sure behind an incredible rushing attack Dak can be highly efficient but as soon as the game starts to depend on him he isn't close to these guys. People just need to accept that he isn't a top 5 passer.

When Dak can start attacking the sidelines 10-20 yards downfield and defense can't just clog the middle of the field let's talk.

Did Dez and Witten really perform like first tier talent last year? And who else was the top tier talent we lost? Dez and Witten collectively had a modest 1,338 yards, so are you adding in Butler’s 317 yards?

And what part of the numbers I suggested as possible seems unreasonable?

In any case, even if we were to only replace 1400 of the 1700 yards, that still just nets out to a 300 yard loss, not 1700, and even then we are likely to have better rushing totals with the Zeke saga behind us, so Its not unreasoble in the least To think there may not be any overall loss in yardage at all.

Last year's production from the WRs and TEs wasn't good enough. You don't have to just equal last year's production. You almost have increase last year's production from the WRs and TEs.

NE's been doing it for years. PITT also. It's only teams like DET and CINCY and a few others who think they have to spend 1sts on WR's all the time.

But Pittsburgh has spent plenty of draft capital to keep a viable WR corps going. They don't let top guys go and replace them with 2nd tier guys from other teams. They let top tier guys go because they have top tier guys behind them ready to go.

They've got the top #1 and a top 3 or 4 #2 in his 2nd year and they still spent a 2nd rounder this draft.

They do. Because they draft well, mostly.

I don’t disagree with you that we need better, but that wasn’t the context of the discussion. The comment being discussed was that the team lost 1,700 yards, and that’s really not true because at a minimum the majority of that will be replaced, probably all of it, and it’s not unreasonable to think we could go beyond it.

I'm assuming they'd like to improve on 2017. 300 less passing yards means they'll have 750 less than 2016.

Zeke needs to get at least a little help from the passing game..

its nasty
but then Roethlisberger is a prolific passing qb, several games last year Dak barely had 200 yards passing
not saying that matters to me, as long as the qb is efficient with the attempts and keeps a defense off Zeke

You see, I understand that we're in the middle of a rebuild, and I'm OK w/ it. We were not going to win it all this season w/ Dez, so it was time to move on and retool. I'm OK w/ a mediocre season this year, as long as we keep adding good talent. Which we've been decent at so far.

This would be a fair response if you had said we can replace the yardage, but it might be tough to improve on it. But it’s not You said we lost 1700 yards and it would revolutionize the entire league if they replaced it. That’s a huge exaggeration. You weren’t talking about the ability to get better, you were treating 1700 yards (among 3 players) as an absolutely impossible number to replace, and it’s really not. And you weren’t talking about the difference between 2016 and now, you were talking about 2017.

I was just following you down your tangent when you said less yards wouldn't be too bad if Zeke can make it up.

One had 317 yards, one retired and the other didn't crack 900 yards.

You're acting as if Witten retiring was the Cowboys' fault lol "They got rid of all the receivers" The other 2 combined BARELY cracked 1200 yards.

Nothing that can't be replaced compared to last year, Witten is the one that really hurts.

Losing Witten was a plus

I didn’t say that. I didn’t comment on what would be good or bad at all, I merely commented on the fact it won’t be nearly as difficult to replace 1700 yards as you indicate.
