I thought Dak played a solid game, like I said had Beasley and Dez caught those balls, we would be talking about how great Dak was. Poor coaching and dropped balls is why we lost that game. It's a game of inches, you can't make those type of mistakes.
I don't disagree that it was a solid game. I do think both of those catches were difficult to make.
The pass to Beasley was high while he was moving across the field. If Dak had thrown it lower, it probably would have been caught and would have been a touchdown.
The pass to Bryant was where it needed to be, and a big-time receiver needs to hold on to that, but that doesn't mean that maintaining possession while slamming into the ground with a defender on you is easy.
Dak also missed some throws in that "game of inches" that could have made a difference, such as a long one in the end zone to Dez that likely would have been caught if he had faded it to the outside instead of throwing it inside where Dez had to fight the defender for the ball. He missed Beasley on another high throw. He threw behind some receivers.
At the end of the day, he completed 55 percent of his passes when he could have completed at least 60, even with those "dropped balls." In a close game, maybe that would have been enough to make a difference.
However, again, I have no problem with how a rookie QB starting his first game played. There was more good there than bad and I think that's all that we can ask for at this point. Fans expecting him to step into Romo's shoes are expecting way too much. Romo couldn't have stepped into Romo's shoes as a rookie.
We can't use this one game to determine whether Dak will ever be as good as Romo. I just hope he builds on this performance enough and we see enough of him that we have a pretty good idea of what we need to do about the position next spring.
