I was lucky enough to get to go to the Calgary Stampede once... back in 2001, I think it was. Lived in Twin Falls, ID at the time. Drove to Calgary, stayed a few days, then back home. A great time was had by all. Friendly, friendly folks there. Would love to get to go again, sometime.

Morning Pops. Morning to all the regulars who make this place a habit. Morning to anybody who may drop by.

Great 4th of July for us. Had kin in from Texas that I had not seen in several years and just a real nice time. Took yesterday off to just clean up and relax and that was also nice. Wife got home from Vacation on Tuesday evening so really, Wed the 4th was just a fly by for us and yesterday was really the first time the Kids and I have had to just be all together with the Wife. It was a real nice time all things considered.

Hope everybody here also had a great time.

Looks like you've had an enjoyable few days with close family, ABQ. Hope your weekend offers you more of the same w/ your wife and kids.

Put some New Yorks in marinade several hours ago. I'll probably go to the grocery store to get a few things to round out the side dish and beverage options to go w/ the steaks for dinner. My son (all grown up) and I will dive in this evening. Didn't get to be together on Wednesday so this will be our belated Family-4th-of-July-BBQ meal. So, I have that to look forward to. :)

Wittenacious, what do you use for a marinade for steaks? I generally put a spice rub on the better cuts, but I've never marinaded a New York Strip.Usually I use a marinade on the cheaper cuts.

I hope you folks contiue to enjoy your "Independence Week" and that you have a great day as we launch into the weekend/:D

The fact is, you caught me being a li'l lazy. Like you, I prefer to use rubs on good cuts of steak... better that way, I agree. Not that hand rubbing a steak takes any real work, it's just that I was all out of rub - dagnabbit - and too lazy to go to the store this morning to get some more.

Just wanted to feel like I was making some sorta progress, saw that I had some premix Bourbon Peppercorn Marinade, so slathered that on good. Adds some flavor without smothering the steak's natural flavor.

Instructions say 30-minute marinade, but I go overkill. I prefer 8-hours in addition to letting the steaks age for a few days as well. Always been good in the past, rub or marinade.

Rubs are still the better choice on good cuts, though, like you said. ;)
 
Afternoon Pops and everyone --mowed and roped early ...plowed the arena so it would be ready in the morning...Ate lunch but W's steak is making be hungry again

Morning Afternoon or Evening Pops -----Its 5oclock some where so go and enjoy the rest of the weekend. Tell your wifes I said you didn't have to the rest of her list ...go ahead it will be ok
