Trust me........I have spent many hours over the last 2 months going over the pluses and minuses of EVERY center in the NFL.....

Here is the story.

There is the top handful of the most elite centers,...the Pounceys, Mangolds,...guys like that. Forget it.......their teams wouldnt even dream of trading them.

Then there are a whole wagon load of players that are only maginally better than what we have in Costa. So........why do it? Doesnt pay.

This guy here is the ONLY top quality center in the NFL who " MIGHT" be available in trade.

Reasons why he MAY be available...

The vikes are in rebuild mode

They have a desperate NEED at C.B

They could use the extra 3rd in their rebuilding.

They have another young Center named Fusco that they are VERY high on.

Heres what I find funny. So many people have told me a 3rd and Jenks is way too high to pay for Sullivan. Maybe so.......BUT.........with the center market being soooooooooooooo thin it is the Vikes who may very well tell US to go fly a kite in regards to that offer.

And yes,....of coarse I know that Jenks has to be medically cleared before we could even dream of working a deal.

You have to remember. The odds of Jenks being on the team next year are about zero percent. A 3rd and a player we are only renting for a young, top notch,...near probowl type center? I'll take that deal EVERY time considering the situation we are in. .

Why not offer Jenkins for Fusco, then. Take a bit of the risk and save the draft pick? (Note, I wouldn't seriously trade a starting CB for an upgrade at Center, but I'm asking for the purpose of the discussion).

I wouln't call you crazy but you definitely have more faith than me. :laugh2:

I don't think the Cowboys are a SB contender but I do think they can make some noise in the playoffs if they stay healthy, especially on defense. Dallas needs to stay on course and keep adding foundation-type players through the draft. There should be some pretty good centers available in next year's draft. As tempting as it is to try and replace Costa now, I would hold off one more year if I was Garrett.

The more I've followed the game the more I realize the NFL is basically professional poker. You just got to be skilled enough to get to the final tables, and then it's mostly going to come down to luck and who gets the cards. If you're looking for meritocracy in professional sports, look for it somewhere else. The Championship comes down to a single elimination tournament following a short sample size 16 game season in a professional sports league that enforces an infrastructure of sameness and a level playing field unlike any other. The Giants won the Superbowl dispite going on a 4 game losing streak. I defy you to find any other sport where a team can lose 25% of their regular season contests consecutively and be considered the "best" in their sport. They have no inherent skill about "being able to turn it on at the right time", because the same players tanked "at the right time" the previous two years.

The only question is if the Cowboys are good enough to at least get a seat at the final table. I think if Rob Ryan can get the defense playing to the level of their talent + if Tony Romo can be Tony Romo + If DeMarco Murray can play like he did last year + if the OL can be as middle of the road as they were last year (and they were middle of the road by any empirical measure, they weren't among the worst in the league by a long shot) if not better ... yes, we can be good enough to get a seat at the final table. After that, who knows.

That's a really great outlook.

Do other NFL teams practice with teenybopper music blaring to entertain the crowd?

Risk/reward..........WAY too much risk for us. Sullivan is a proven commodity, as is Jenkins,....Fusco is not as he has never started.

I look at it like this.....Each team gets a proven player. A proven Jenkins for a proven Sullivan with a crapshoot 3rd rounder thrown in due to centers being in such short supply.

Save our third rounder. Trade Jenks and Costa for Sullivan and maybe a 3,4 or 5th (if he's this stud center as you say) they still have two centers in camp and a proven CB and we have a stud center plus no longer have Costa and Jenks and maybe an extra draft pick.

This reminds me of the season where Brad Johnson looked like a steaming pile of poo in the offseason and throughout the preseason. Sure enough, Romo goes down and Brad Johnson is worse than we thought.

:laugh2: Not a pleasant thought. It reminds me of one of my Costa Rica trips; we were in the woods and looking at a Howler Monkey. The monkey took a dump in his hand and threw it at us. :puke:

I think everyone is Costa tripping right about now.:laugh2:

The difference is that Brad Johnson showed his lack of arm strength in every throw... Every throw.

Costa had one bad snap in a walk-through of all things.

I don't even comment on Arkin because he's the 4th string center, who's never played the position.

Given his body of work thus far, and the fact that he got ran over in a walkthrough, it doesn't look that great.

If it's too much risk for us, why would MIN do the deal? It's hard to rebuild trading proven commodities for question marks just to pickup an injured impending FA.

I'm pretty sure Gurode can barely walk at this point with his knees. Still would be an upgrade over this.. ;)

Man Gourde was so good at shotgun snaps that we got a 100 yard play. You remeber that one correct snap right over Romo's head where Romo had run like 40 yards back wards then like 30 yards forward to heave the ball down the field for a pass play. :D

So Tyron is staying after working on footwork. Albright is staying after, too. Why isn't Costa staying after working on shotgun snapping in to a bucket or something?
