Morning Walkthrough Tweets -08/09/12

Well, last week there was a convo about the issue was with Orton. And then some of that is with the center's inexperience.

I think it depends which QB-Center exchange you're evaluating.

Well I guess my center concerns the other day were just foreshadowing.

I'm still in disbelief they didn't go after a FA center (instead picked up Brodney 'what was the name of that truck' Pool).....just inexcusable really.

Trust me........I have spent many hours over the last 2 months going over the pluses and minuses of EVERY center in the NFL.....

Here is the story.

There is the top handful of the most elite centers,...the Pounceys, Mangolds,...guys like that. Forget it.......their teams wouldnt even dream of trading them.

Then there are a whole wagon load of players that are only maginally better than what we have in Costa. So........why do it? Doesnt pay.


This guy here is the ONLY top quality center in the NFL who " MIGHT" be available in trade.

Reasons why he MAY be available...


The vikes are in rebuild mode

They have a desperate NEED at C.B

They could use the extra 3rd in their rebuilding.

They have another young Center named Fusco that they are VERY high on.


Heres what I find funny. So many people have told me a 3rd and Jenks is way too high to pay for Sullivan. Maybe so.......BUT.........with the center market being soooooooooooooo thin it is the Vikes who may very well tell US to go fly a kite in regards to that offer.


And yes,....of coarse I know that Jenks has to be medically cleared before we could even dream of working a deal.


You have to remember. The odds of Jenks being on the team next year are about zero percent. A 3rd and a player we are only renting for a young, top notch,...near probowl type center? I'll take that deal EVERY time considering the situation we are in. .

The irony is Minny traded for Walker thinking he was the missing piece on a SB team. Making a trade for their center at the price you are offering would be comparable to the Walker trade; Dallas needs Jenkins and their pick.

Like I posted earlier,.......I spent months looking over about every current center in the NFL. Quality centers these days are like hens teeth. VERY scarce.

This makes perfect sense...if Dallas was one center away from a SB.

Call me crazy,......but I believe we are. We bring in the proven sullivan to anchor the line,....we also sign a solid vet to replace Jenkins as other teams make their cuts. Doesnt have to be a big name guy at all,....just someone who knows his way around a defensive backfield.

We are only renting Jenks for THIS year anyway. I think we all know his days are numbered. And that 3rd rounder? I also think we all know the draft is a gamble. But Sullivan......now he has a body of work that goes back a few years. He is a KNOWN quantity. A fine young center more than capable of playing at a pro bowl level.

It wouldnt be comparable IN THE LEAST. I remember that trade quite well.....Just off of memory Im pretty sure we got 5 draft picks and 5 players. Multiple 1sts and second rounders. Isaac Holt being one of the players we received.

Granted Arkin has had snapping issues right along, but I'm not going to lose perspective on Costa having one bad snap in a walk-through.

Yeah, it's such a stunner when someone who hasn't snapped before has some struggles with it. I can see why such an unforeseen event might cause people to completely fall off the deep end and devolve into low functioning primates.

No panic from me. I look at it this way.....if some dumb mason from Northern Wisconsin is scouring every roster in the NFL looking at every conceivable angle to obtain a center..........you can bet your last dollar that the Cowboys staff and front office is doing the same. EXCEPT WITH A MAGNIFYING GLASS.

Its all about the available options,...risk/reward.

I don't think the Cowboys are a SB contender but I do think they can make some noise in the playoffs if they stay healthy, especially on defense. Dallas needs to stay on course and keep adding foundation-type players through the draft. There should be some pretty good centers available in next year's draft. As tempting as it is to try and replace Costa now, I would hold off one more year if I was Garrett.
