1. If a coach does indeed coast...I may be

But somehow I just don't think I would be "offended" by that.

2. You know if someone called me a name...I may be offended
If someone called a family member a name...I may be offended
If someone did something to me or a family member...I may be offended.
If someone goes on some racial tirade...I may be offended.
There could be many things that happen and I may be offended.

A Coach that does not live up to my expectations does NOT offend me.

But to the larger question: I don't see your offense at offended.
If you care about something, a team perhaps, you invest yourself into it.
If someone is a laggard (and Parcells appears to have been fitting the mold) then he or his actions offend the structure, the sensibility of what you care about.

Beyond that, I say allow Zoners to express themselves as they want without trying to mitigate their words or thoughts. Try it. You might find it to your liking. For once.

Why are we even talking about another coach right now?

Maybe I'm crazy, and maybe people just don't see things this way anymore, but I don't know why Parcells owes anybody anything. His contract covers the next year, right? So that would mean that by default, he is coming back. That's just something we should expect. Anything else, i.e. an announcement by the organization that he is either staying or leaving, is extra. It's made my off-season a lot easier.

I get the whole "we finished terribly" thing, but I stopped speculating a long time ago. He's got one year left and I'd expect him to finish that out. Speculation is fun, just don't get too caught up in it.

That being said, if Jerry is dolling out his "favorites" already, that's bad news. Mort could be talking out of his backside, which ESPN routinely does, but Jerry talking up other coaches already (at least enough for it to leak) is not good. This is why we need a real GM.
