Mort speculating wildly on Dallas coach

Need I say more? ;)

There was nothing wrong with his rationale on why he hired Phillips, and he went through a very thorough search.

Switzer, Gailey and Campo were completely ignorant decisions.

I can guarantee that we aren't hiring a college coach to succeed Wade

it's gonna be a Zimmer, Garrett, or Todd Bowles type of deal

someone whose already been a head coaching candidate here and elsewhere, and who has ties to here

and who is fairly young (Zimmer is like 49)

Tuna took forever to decide to leave, and by the time he did, the coaching cupboard was more or less bare in terms of "high profile" candidates. It's not like Norv would have generated a lot of excitement either.

btw, I think Nick Saban scared off most teams to hiring college coaches

who knows when the next highly, successful college coach decides he can't hack it in the NFL, and wants to go back to the safe confines of strong recruiting classes and FCB teams?

That's the second time in a few days he's mentioned Fisher, though nobody can figure out how he could get out of his contract, or if he'd even want to.

But Mort must be hearing something.

Not likely.

Nobody is more inaccurate reporting Cowboys stories and rumors than Mort. And that's saying something since guys like Mr. Blue Suit are almost at a Mendoza line accuracy.

Doesn't surprise me given Mort's reporting methods which consists of not giving each party their side of the story if Mort doesn't like them. He's admitted as such. Par for the course at ESPN.

Jerry isn't going to hire a college coach. He's repeatedly said he has no interest in doing so given their track record. He hired Jimmy because they were once great friends. Fisher probably isn't going anywhere either, although I have to imagine that the VY situation probably has left a bad taste in Bud Adams' mouth and according to Floyd Reece's wife, Reece saved Fisher's job on numerous occasions.

Zimmer was a mediocre D-Coordinator here and once again, his defense is starting to fizzle down the stretch, this time in Cincy, because his defense can't get to the QB anymore. People forget how lousy the defense was in 2004 when we were still in a 4-3 and Zimmer was in his 5th year as D-Coordinator. They also forget how we got horribly exposed in 2006 by Sean Payton and couldn't cover Mike freaking Karney out of the backfield, much less a tailback out of the backfield and how these guys were WIDE OPEN time after time and Zimmer had zero answers to solve the problem.

I don't hate Zimmer as a person and I'm glad he's had success this year in Cincy, but I just find it funny how people forget all of this and want him back as HC of all things. I highly doubt we hire Zimmer anyway as we didn't have a problem letting him go after the 2006 season and didn't even consider re-signing him or even making him the next HC. He was then lousy in Atlanta and lousy last year in Cincy.

I don't think that Campo was a very good head coach.

But to be fair about it,there was alot of cap space being taken up by dead money at the time.If anything the Campo years bought some time to get some cap space back.

I defended Zimmer while he was here

I would gladly welcome him back

btw, he wouldn't be coaching the 34 here most likely

Let's face it: Zimmer has done pretty well in Cincy considering the so so talent on d there. The Atl situation was a mess with Petrino. I'd be willing to give him a shot at this point considering it looks like we have no shot at the big ticket guys.

Mort speculates that Jerry wants a younger coach and might go to the college ranks.

He mentioned Bob Stoops and Urban Meyer.

He said don't rule out Jason Garrett. And Jeff Fisher is a "darkhorse."

This would be great!

Zimmer has real good talent over at Cincy, particularly at corner with Hall and Joseph. I don't think most fans realize just how good both are. They might be the best CB tandem in the league. They also got Maulauga (a guy I wanted in the draft) and Keith Rivers is superb. Peko is also a really good DT, which was something the Bengals badly needed for years and Antwan Odom has always been a very good 4-3 DE.

Most of these guys were brought in before Zimmer and are now hitting their primes with Zimmer. And again, their defense is starting to fizzle down the stretch as they can't get any pressure on the QB (sounds familiar). If you really want a good Cincinnati coordinator, take a look at Bob Bratkowski. That guy is fantastic.

Cincy has good corners and that's it. You mention Odom, but he's missed much of the season with an injury. That would be like Dallas losing ware. No wonder their pass rush has faltered late in the season. I just know those guys play hard for him.

Earlier in the year when the Titans were losing the owner said he would be evaluating Fisher after the season. That coupled with the notion, true or false, that the owner forced Fisher into starting Young fostered a lot of speculation that Jeff would be fired after the season.

Jeff Fisher would know what to do with Felix Jones, the guy his organization wanted to draft. I think he would remake the offensive line to better fit Felix Jones' talent, and I think he would keep the 34.

Also, I think he could get Dallas over the hump, because his teams are mentally tough and have played hard when out gunned in the past.

I'm not saying the Cowboys are not mentally tough, but some strategic things need to change, imo, especially on offense.

I agree... Fisher wouldn't be a bad choice for Dallas at all.

If Jerry thinks about Fisher, he needs to tell Fisher to bring Chris Johnson with him. :)

With Fisher we will not have an issue with coaching issues. I think there are plenty of coaches out there that he trusts that can right the ship. There are many college coaches that I would bring in as a coordinator but not as HC. For DC I wouldn't mind Al Groh from UVA and even a guy like Mularkey or promoting Sherman or Peete to OC. There are some darkhorses like Russ Grimm, David Lee, Bruce Arians, and Ken Anderson could all be HC or OC's too.

I would rather promote someone who is younger and trying to prove themselves in the NFL like the guys above at the coordinator positions.

Jeff Fisher will never coach in Dallas.

He suffers from acute Newtongravitophobia or "the fear of falling objects".

If he can get out he will. Fisher I mean. This guy has never had a franchise QB.

You mean other than Steve McNair who was a LEAGUE MVP?????
