Based on Tony Romo's busy travel schedule that saw him take head coach Jason Garrett to New York for a Springsteen concert, I'd have to say his shoulder is healing nicely. And who can forget Tom and Roger flying across the country to see Elvis one last time.

Romo provided fans with an update of his surgically repaired clavicle via the Twitter account that I'm convinced someone else ghostwrites:

"My surgery has healed up nicely. Looking forward to OTA's and a full offseason. Let's go!"

That tweet received more than 6,000 retweets and 9,000 "likes." Romo stopped by the American Airlines Center last night to see J.J. Barea will the Mavs to their second consecutive win. You will see Tony in public quite a bit leading up to April's draft, in part because he wants to send a message that he's healthier than ever. This will lead to Jerry Jones perhaps extending the quarterback's window to 6-7 years with the Cowboys.

Romo truly believes he has 3-4 years left, which would put his retirement at close to 40. And it's understandable that he would feel that way. A player of Romo's stature other than, say, Calvin Johnson, doesn't like to think about the final chapter. That's supposed to be the job of cold-hearted GMs across the league. But the Cowboys' GM thinks of Romo like a son and appears to make every move accordingly.

Sounds like a good idea to me -- Romo might be healthy at present but who's to say what could happen whenever he takes a hit?

If it's not his shoulder that gives out, it could easily be his back or some other part of his anatomy. It's better to be safe than sorry.

It would likely be ASAP to start mentoring his eventual replacement. It may easily take up to two years or more to do it properly.

Its such a slam dunk decision to make...........you have an aging QB in his late 30s coming off multiple surgeries the past 2-3 years and you have been gifted a top 5 pick, the highest the team has drafted in over 2 decades.

To not draft a QB this year would be monumentally stupid.

Most 37 yr old QBs say they are fine....Romo is the man but its time for his True replacement to be added. Since Zeke appears to be off the table give me a QB.

I found it interesting that the Steelers' GM recently said his organization had a 3-4-year window with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, This is a player with two Super Bowl rings who's two years younger than Romo. He's also someone who has played through a series of injuries without missing much time. The Steelers are deeply appreciative of Big Ben's accomplishments, but they will soon start looking for his replacement.

Romo has vowed to mentor whomever the Cowboys draft at his position. But this organization rarely drafts a quarterback, in part because they acquired Romo as an undrafted rookie. His success in a lot of ways has caused the Cowboys not to have any interest in drafting and developing his potential replacement. But now the organization has a rare opportunity to land one of the top two players at that position. The Cowboys hope they never have this opportunity again.

I think Romo will spend the next 28 days telling Jerry and Stephen there's no need to use a pick on a quarterback that high in the draft. What they have to do (for once) is tune him out. I think Romo could play two more years at an elite level. And with that said, I still think it's time for the Cowboys to draft his replacement.

Romo will spend this offseason letting everyone know how healthy his shoulder is, but we were reminded last season how fragile he can be. The Cowboys have to make an honest evaluation of Jared Goff and Carson Wentz without some unrealistic timetable for Romo's future in mind. Are Jerry and Stephen capable of doing that?

I have my doubts.

Obviously they should draft a QB

Of course it's time to put Romo's heir apparent on the roster. The only question really is whether they like Goff enough to take him at #4, and if he'll be there anyway.

Another question is whether the people in charge actually agree with your first statement. Drafting a QB to develop as a backup is very different from believing you need to draft an heir to your franchise QB.

My one real hope for this offseason is that the team drafts its' future franchise quarterback at #4.

Yep, with Romo done, if they pass on one of these guys at 4, there's no reasonable explanation.
