Just more from Broaddus...

-- Parcells pretty much just sat back and watched the 2003 draft. He got there too late to do a lot himself, so he was evaluating the process and the scouts themselves... The team knew they'd drafted badly lately and had to make changes. Bill didn't like Newman that much, didn't like the age and size.

-- Does give Bill full credit for Witten, though. They had him with a 1st round grade. (How that goes with "sitting back", I dunno. Maybe Bill just took a liking to Witten in particular.)

-- Says Ciskowski and even Ireland tried to talk Bill out of Jacob Rogers.

-- Says Bill did prefer Spears over Ware, and that they had Spears and Ware with exactly the same grade. Ireland had to talk him into it. Bill visibly pouted when he didn't get Spears at 11.

This is great stuff. It needs to be in its own thread instead of being mixed in with the Giants' inferiority complex.

He said it was Merriman and Ware with the same grade.

We are so fortunate we drafted Ware over Merriman and even Spears

Im going to email the show and beg them to podcast it.

He said every player, coach, and personell person on that staff watches hard knocks in hopes of a Dallas player saying something negative about the Giants.

I think this team is starting to have a "Beat Dallas 1st" mentality instead of "get back to the superbowl."
it's pathetic. I think they know they got lucky in the playoffs against us and it ain't gonna happen again. there for they are trying to find any type of motivation to convince themselves they can beat us.

Wow, where to start? First, I was under the now mistaken impression we'd get back to a RESPECTABLE rivalry with these guys like we had in the 90's. Seriously, we played hard, competed etc...but there wasn't any of this BS going on. Mac Engle is a dooosh and a half for stoking it in an inaccurate way, and yes the Giants are the weakest "Champs" ever. I still can't believe we, or more amazingly the Pats lost to this group of idiots. I'll never forget Jacobs crying-literally CRYING after we beat them in the toiletlands last year: saying Crayton SUCKED through tears. My God gents, I've watched this wonderful game for 32 years and never seen such drama. I wasn't stunned when we stumbled and they beat us, but to have 2 or 3 of Manning's "passes" go right through Pat's defenders hands in the second half of the SB: just unreal. That defense and their blitzes more than saved them IMO, but it won't this year because Garrett will be more than ready with Felix at his disposal. I don't think either game will be overly close. We're quite a bit better and just didn't play well in that playoff game plain and simple. They can use all this BS and hard knocks for all their phony "bulletin board material" (again more high school crap) and it won't matter. We're going to knock the **** out of them: twice. AND, they won't make the playoffs without shockey: mark it down now. (Normally, the skins are ALWAYS my most hated team: but I gotta tell ya', these retards in pads are testing that theory..........)

Thanks again. This should be in another thread and stickied. JMO.

I can't believe how close we were to not having Romo. That's straight up frightening!!

Threads like this are the reason this is my forum of preference.

The Romo thing (how it's basically just luck that he wasn't released) has been talked about here a few times, but the rest of that stuff was all news to me.

The behind-the-scenes stuff is priceless.

I wished Hard Knocks would do more of it, too. My favorite scenes last week were the two war room conversations -- one on Felix and the other on Bennett.

I don't know about Ireland... He wouldn't tell me any specifics.

The highly condensed version of the rest is that:

-- Buffalo kept calling back wanting that pick, and finally offered their first. Maurice Carthon was the one who convinced Bill to do it for a first, because he said there wasn't that much difference between Jackson (who had a low 1st round grade due to possible injury issues) and Kevin Jones, Tatum Bell, Chris Perry, and Julius (who had high second round grades).

-- Says Romo would've been cut if Quincy hadn't been relased. We'd just gotten Henson and too much legwork (and a 3rd rounder) went into getting him. Bill had Vinny and of course he was staying. Randy asked if rumors were true that the team knew Q had failed a drug test before they even went to camp, and Broaddus said no, that wasn't true. But he said that -- most provocative comment -- Bill didn't want The Q and Vinny competing in the same camp. (So that sounds like Hostile was right.) Randy asked about Parcells' comments to Babe last summer that he'd have cut Henson if he had to, and Broaddus said he didn't believe that, that they'd have kept Henson. Said he never remembered anyone jumping on the table campaigning for Romo back then.

Trying to remember what else... Those were the two big ones.

He was so bad in those preseason games I wouldnt have blamed them.

Im so glad Quincy is an idiot or we would be Romoless.

They would do wise to pay attention to the rest of the division. I predict they will be fighting for a wildcard with the Eagles. I say they miss the playoffs.

Brandon Jacobs running his mouth again.

Brandon Jacobs finds the Cowboys to be 'arrogant'
Brandon Jacobs' mouth is in midseason form. Appearing on WFAN's mid-day show, he said he checked out the Cowboys on HBO's "Hard Knocks" and was unamused by their attitude.

Jacobs called the Pokes an "arrogant group."

He also questioned their Super Bowl talk. "I guess they won their Super Bowl rings in training camp, because they didn't win it last year,'' he said.

Nice to have football back.

how many days till we play those ricks with a p?

some more from mosley on gac....thanks to twodeep

Mosely was on GAC - Galloway and company - this afternoon from Auburn at the Giants camp.

Reported they think the camp is running smoother without Shockey, although they didn't come out and say so.

The team has the Wade Phillips comment about get your ring finger ready up as bulliten board material.

Mosely said he explained this was a response to a heckler in the crowd and Phillips didn't say it in any other light.

They didn't want to hear about it. All they care about is being disrespected by everyone. Within three months of winning the Super Bowl the Cowboys have been favored to win the East again and possibly be one of the berth holders for the big game. That irks them and they are using it as a chip on their shoulder.

Their favorite TV show. Hard knocks.

The team gathers around TV sets and watches together looking for any comment by a Cowboy - player or coach - that they can use to motivate them.

Conklin was walking around speaking to anyone about - did you see Pac. Meaning the six balls he caught in punt practice.

Galloway brought up that why should the Giants give a rat's butt about what the Cowboys think. The conclusion is they have an inferiority complex and want to use that as motivation.

Stated the Plax contract is close to being done and he will appear magically healed from his injury to take the field the first game of the season.

I cant believe they sit around watching Hard Knocks looking for material.
lol the Giants are pathetic...

Who in the H-- cares what the Giants think. it's the Cowboys who are looking for payback against those punks. they have rubbed it our our face and talked trash all summer long. i want the Cowboys to stomp their sorry A-- into the ground this year. i cant wait.

Exactly. If they are that insecure and are worried about what we think, they have lost their edge from last season. Being the underdog and milking it only goes so far. They had better be prepared to play. We have some of our own bulletin board material.

Giants' RB Jacobs tees off on Cowboys

August 14, 2008 9:00 AM

Posted by ESPN.com's Matt Mosley

Crayton Jacobs
ALBANY, N.Y. -- It appears that the war of words between the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys will spill over into the 2008 season. When last seen at Texas Stadium, Giants players were enjoying some postgame popcorn in honor (mockery) of Terrell "Getcha Popcorn Ready!" Owens.

Earlier in the season, Cowboys wide receiver Patrick Crayton had taunted the Giants in print, which led to an entertaining verbal matchup between he and running back Brandon Jacobs.

Since arriving at Giants training camp, I've been told that several members of the organization plan their Wednesday evenings around watching HBO's "Hard Knocks" in an effort to find more bulletin board material.

Apparently Jacobs has already seen enough because he went off on the Cowboys while appearing on WFAN's mid-day show earlier this week. After calling the Cowboys an "arrogant group," Jacobs followed with this:

"I guess they won their Super Bowl rings in training camp, because they didn't win it last year," he said.

I'm not sure whether the Giants have heard about Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips referring to them as "last year's champs" during training camp in Oxnard, Calif., but I'm certain it's something they can work with. As GM Jerry Reese told the NFC East Blog on Wednesday, the Giants "play the role of the underdog as well as anyone."

Can the defending world champs play this role with a straight face?

So far, so good.
