Glad you feel 'entertained'.

You can call it 'taking risks' if it helps you feel better.

I call it like I see it.

Sacrificing your own standards by picking up another team's 'turd' with the hope that he'll make your team better.

And I'm hoping that Jones has learned from past mistakes.

I don't know. I think the Commanders would be more inclined to sign Tank Johnson at this point. Their defensive line is stagnant and could use the fire that Tank can provide. I think he would be a good addition for them, which is why I am all for the idea of signing him to the Cowboys just to spite the Commanders from getting him.

In the latest news, Jerry and Stephen Jones were interviewing Tank Johnson now that he is a free agent, when Stephen asked Johnson what his Wonderlic score was. Tank and Jerry Jones exchanged glances and then both answered at the same time "What do Wonderlic mean?"

Jerry answers: Wonderlic test? Yep, I remember that commercial.... I think the answer is two...

Frankly, I wouldn't be opposed to it if he he only comes at $240k. That's about as low risk/high reward as you get. Its not like you're spending a 1st or 2nd round pick drafting him.

We've built our defense around "nice guys" like Ellis, Nguyen and Coakley for the last decade. Its not easy rooting for them either when they're folding like a cheap card table everytime someone punches them in the mouth.

For me, this all depends on whether he can adhere to the terms laid out with the commish - right now all that he is guilty of is speeding and I don't think that is a huge deal. Now if he was intoxicated, it won't matter as I expect Goodell is going to put him down for the entire season.

I like character but I think we've gone a bit overboard, at least in terms of drafting it. Many times it turned out OK -- e.g., Burnett over Thurman but in other cases maybe we missed out a bit, e.g., Ware over Merriman. Regardless, the near total focus on drafting character has left us with a bunch of nice guys who love their mama and go to church but nobody who is a punk. You need a few of those guys to bring the nasty.

there's a difference in being nasty on the field, but a complete idiot off of it

there are a number of intense people on the field who have no trouble staying w/in the law off of it

And on.

This notion that you have to urinate on cars off the field to be intense and nasty on it is ridiculous.

Sure -- but we don't have ANY nasty on the field guys to speak of. Sure, Roy is tough, but he hasn't -- for whatever reason - sparked the team with that nastiness in a long while.

Tank has been an idiot - but he did something to impress Goodell that shouldn't be entirely discounted. Again, I qualified my post by saying that if he was drunk when he was arrested that the discussion should end there. But if he was simply out at 3:30 AM and speeding. Well, come on now. If you were driving in the middle of the night, would you be adhering to the speed limit?

but dude still spent time in jail for a crime he was convicted of

I just don't think a discussion of Tank is the proper venue to start talking about our need for more intense football players

We won SBs before without idiots like that. This BS that we need thugs to win the SB is total CRAP.

Not what I'm saying at all.

Again, as I noted, Tank did SOMETHING that really impressed Goodell -- Goodie is a serious hard-a, so, if all he was doing late at night was speeding, that should at least warrant some consideration

What about Tank makes you think he can be nasty?

It's not like the guy's getting in trouble are really known for their tenacity on the field - and Tank just had some guns in his house. I don't know that convinces me that he's a bad-***. I think Spencer and Ware have a little nasty in em - Carpenter, too.

Bill would suppress that nasty - at least the displays on the field - as much as he could. Showing up your opponent was a cardinal sin to Parcells.

He was in for 90 days and from what I understand, he was in isolation, so as not to get caught up by someone else looking to establish a rep.

why? when I can just stay in this thread and point out how ridiculous it is of you to suggest we need more people who are suspension targets, just for the sake of looking meaner on the field

you can always find intense players who aren't about to get their arses suspended for 8 games

I'd like to see his tox screen before making a decision.

IMO, to sign him, you've gotta decide his impact (over what you've got now at his position) significantly exceeds his baggage and risk of future suspensions.

Is he really that much better than Ferguson?

Is he clearly head and shoulders above all of the other guys, besides Ferguson, who'll see time in that spot? Probably, although Wade has talked about how some of the DEs on the roster (in addition to Ratliff) will occasionally move inside to nose.

I don't know that he adds enough to the Cowboys to justify his baggage and risk of future suspension.
