why, stats dont win you a game. No team has ever won on stats. You can give up 300 gabillion yards, but if you cant score, its nothing on the scoreboard. Did you see how many teams can rack up scores in little time?

technically, points are a stat.

but, stats do traditionally win games....time of possession, turnover differential, etc. are all stats that are usually in a certain range when you win.

And yet you can argue that the defense has still been better than the offense this season...even with all the injuries.

Not really. Offense is averaging over 25 ppg even throwing out the Den game. OTOH, we've lost 3 games by 5 points. There's pros and cons in that, too.

How many POOR games has the defense played in which they didn't even give the offense much of a chance? Probably only 2 games - the SD game and Denver game. They forced many turnovers against the Giants against a shaky offense on opening night. They held the Chiefs to 17 points and gave the offense a chance late to take the lead. Yeah they couldn't get the ball back with 3 timeouts but still, I'll take 17 points given up on the road every time. They shutdown the Rams (the Cowboys offense played well too) and forced big turnovers vs. the Commanders and Eagles to help the struggling offense out.

And today, they forced 4 turnovers and even got what should have been the final stop of the game...with guys like Marvin Austin, Jarius Wynn, Caesar Rayford being forced to play many snaps on the DLine and Jeff Heath, Jakar Hamilton, and BW Webb playing in the secondary.

Of course given the injuries and transition to a 4-3, they're not going to be shutting anyone down but they've done enough to not lose the game completely on their own. Not sure what more people can ask for.

How many turnovers have they generated though? You can't have it one way and not speak on the defense giving the offense more possessions.

The turnovers have improved but this D gives up 500 yards a game and over 600 today. There is no way any team is going to be successful giving up that much real estate. They also lack situational awareness.

As I posted in another thread, Garrett has set a lot of Cowboy records since he took over. Losing after scoring 48 points, at home. Setting a record for losing the most games after having a double digit lead in the 4th quarter. He's setting the bar high for his successor.

I see Romo fans have finally found this year's scapegoats.

Does that include the points factored in with the defense forcing turnovers and setting the offense up in prime position to score? Or Harris' impact on special teams...particularly the Commanders game.

All I know is that per SportingCharts.com, the Cowboys rank 6th in the NFL in Takeaway Points, and if they didn't count today's game yet then that could go up. The teams ahead of them are great defenses like the 49ers, Seahawks, and Chiefs. Not bad company considering we have such a "terrible" defense with injuries.

We've also allowed 500 total yards and 30 points in three different games. There are only two NFL teams that have done that more than three times in an entire season. It happened in the same season, 1950.

The all-time record is 5 games, set by the original Baltimore Colts in 1950. That franchise folded after that season, and three years later, an expansion team in Baltimore took their name and is now the Indianapolis Colts.

The other team was the New York Yanks. They did it four times in 1950.

Im just gonna go ahead say it. If We average 300 gabillion yards a game we would win every game just from FGs and be the highest scoring team in NFL history. The Pro bowl would be Cowboys vs the AFC. Probably would be playing on dirt fields every game and Romo would be the president...Of the world.

Defense has been awful this season. We really need passrushers in the worst way. Its really hard to implement a defense when you have 3 of your top Dline out - Ware, Rat, and Spencer. If our D can't apply pressure, your gonna have bad days like today. But todays lost is on the coach. How can you give the ball back to Detroit when the defense wasn't able to stop Megatron the whole game? Why can't we run out the clock with 1:40 to play? Blame the game on the coach. Its time we get rid of him first before anything else.
