The Ice Bowl, Craig Morton’s interception in SB V, Jackie Smith’s drop and Pass interference call on Benny Barnes in SB XIII, The Catch, hiring Chan Gailey, Dave Campo, Wade Phillips and Jason Garrett as HCs, the Joey Galloway and Roy Williams trades, the 2009 draft, the 2016 playoff loss to GB…the annual “State of the Cowboys” presser with Jerry talking complete non-sense.
How could I forget about The Catch? That was a super heartbreak! Or watching the Staubach comeback fall short in SB 13. Still there was something about that Moss game that knocked the wind right out of me. Maybe it was seeing the great 90s Cowboys become a shell of what they once were only a few years prior. But man Moss that day...Kevin Smith defined the word toast - it was just beyond belief.

Both occurred in SB 5. Tipped ball to John Mackey for a Colts TD. Dave Manders recovers Duane Thomas fumble in the end zone. Refs give the ball to the Colts.

good times outweigh the bad but these are losses I quickly remember that left me feeling helpless (chronologically)

66 championship-Meredith throwing short endzone int on game tying final drive to get into SB1
67 championship-ice Bowl last play loss for entry into SB2
SB 5-Lilly throws helmet 40 yards in disgust after loss in game we should have won (we still could not get that world championship title)
SB 13-Jackie Smith drop. There was still 17 minutes left but it was that big a momentum changer in the SB against an extremely tough Pitt team
82 championship-The Catch to keep us out of SB16
93 Thanksgiving game-Letts touching a live ball to change a win to a loss (I remember reporters actually asking Jimmy if he was going to cut Lett)

just remember these as big games we should have/could have won but lost and just felt helpless

been so many, but I must go with the most recent playoff loss in San Fran. When #20 was injured, I knew we were screwed and KM wasn't going to help us. That is a helpless feeling. I recall MM feeling the same watching him standing there on the sidelines. He knew it as well. He had the "far away" stare..

Dak’s last two playoff exits against SF and the way he played.
This years loss just confirms that this quarterback is the furthest from a championship quarterback.

Such a good defensive season wasted.

My personal most helpless moments as a Cowboys fan

Super Bowl XIII -- power goes out in a huge blizzard half way through 3rd quarter (panicked, i stole a car to drive to my girlfriends to catch the end)

Monday Night Football 1983 Dal vs Was down 23-3 huge comeback win -- during the comeback our ship lost power and our TV went out -- freaked out and tried to find a hotel in Trinidad to put the game on (local dockworker found me a spot after i gave him $50)

Random Sunday game early 80s Saint John's Newfoundland -- drunker than hell watching the game at a bar and stayed past the time i had to be back to the ship i was working on -- finally got to the dock and it had sailed -- this was very bad!! (incredibly for me, rough seas outside the port forced the ship to return and i managed to board -- fined multiple days pay and crapped on for a month)

Don't forget the ref getting in the way of a sure tackle allowing a huge run.

Wish I could like this 100 times. Especially SB XIII because those plays robbed us of another Lombardi.

Dez “catch” in GB bar none that was soul crushing
I remember that like it was yesterday. I was at the bar with friends and was watching. Dez made the catch, we all went crazy. Red flag comes out and i stepped outside. I already knew they would change it to an incomplete pass … everyone was trying to tell me different

Trade for Roy Williams was demoralizing. Wasn’t a painful moment but more of exasperation.
