he needs to fire the agent btw

His agent is giving him good advice.

Your mindset is one of a fan - Lawrence is about getting a deal as fast as possible and as much as possible. When will people get that financial security is more important than championships? You don't have to like it, you have to understand.

We all have different views about what to do with Lawrence but this article is the best I have seen just from the cap v production standpoint and I hope the FO of the Cowboys reads it.

I think guys like Khalil Mack and Lawrence are the exception because they go beyond the norm of just strictly passrusher. As most passrushers arent nowhere as good as these two in terms of playing the run also. Lawrence i think was graded as the top run defending DE. Clearly he was affected by the shoulder late in the yr but he did more then pretty good still. I think this is what Jerry meant by it was important for Lawrence to get the surgery and it was expected for the first yr to be productive.

He has done a good job. He deserves a contract but not what he is asking for.

Deserve has nothing to do with it. It is the new market rate.

6 months ago, I bought a 4 BR house for $188K. This week, I got a market report, and it is now valued at $202K I don't "deserve" that extra $14K. But the market has moved.

I hope the Cowboys have an out after 3 years, because I suspect we've already seen Lawrence's best year. But then again, I didn't expect him to ever do as well as he's done this past two seasons. I didn't like the Lawrence pick, and am still not a big believer in him. So far, he's exceeded my expectations. It will be good for the Cowboys if he continues to exceed my expectations - which was for a 5-6 sack per year guy over the course of an 8-10 year career. Lawrence is ahead of my expectations, averaging 6.8 sacks per season over his first 5 years. That's good, but not elite.

By contrast, Ware averaged 13 sacks per season over his first 5 years. Von Miller averaged 12 sacks per season over his first 5 years. Khalil Mack has averaged 11.6 sacks per season. Those are elite players. Lawrence is not an elite player, but he's getting paid like one. I certainly hope he proves me wrong, but I expect many fans to be disgruntled with this deal by the end of 2020.

My prediction: Lawrence gets 12-16 sacks over the next two seasons, and then starts to drop off into the 3-4 sacks per year range. By 2022, the Cowboys cut him to save against the salary CAP, and he's no longer on the team. Please, please prove me wrong...

My second prediction: Robert Quinn will have more sacks in 2019 than DeMarcus Lawrence.

If the Cowboys win a Super Bowl in the next two seasons, it will have been worth the cost.

I guess that the people who stated that he should just sign the tag, count on the owners to give him a good deal when he had no leverege and then fire his agent are going to admit they were wrong now. (if you're hearing a loud alarm type sound in your head that's probably your sarcasm detector going off)

There's certainly a good argument that it's a bad deal. There's just no way that a DL is worth that money. Top QBs get $25-30 mil and they have to be at least twice as valuable as top DLs.

Oh please, Watt would be a Sam lb in this defense. You don't drop a 1st on a Sam. Practically every scouting report on him felt he was maxed on his frame, most didn't fill he he couldn't adjust to a 3 point and felt his career would be drastically shortened because of his knees, taking on OTs every play. Atlanta took a nutter over him for there 43 also. Watt is a 34 lb with a short shelf life, nothing more!
Really? Half the time, TJ Watt is playing DE on a 4-3 base with his hand on the ground. You're saying you would pass up 14 sacks in barely his 2nd season for 1 sack Taco because of "technicalities"? Guess what? All of those scouts, plus Atlanta and Marinelli were DEAD WRONG...along with you.
