That didn't work out too well for Jake Plummer, did it? How about David Boston? In fact, I cannot recall any one ex-Cardinal who suddenly prospered after escaping from this black hole as some of you believe it is.

What people don't get is that they are the organization that chose the players that directly contributed to the lack of a winning tradition. The players ultimately played on the field and won or lost.

You are correct, Davis simply is too physically overwhelming to not be effective, but again, it is when he so chooses to do so. If he's not motivated and into the action, he's barely above average. That will be a problem, unless coming to Dallas puts his switch permanently in the "on" position.

Above average will still be better than Rivera.

I know we didn't pay him to be above average, I'm just saying....

Rice prospered after leaving AZ. Thomas Jones has done better since getting out of AZ. I realize this doesn't mean Davis will follow suit. It has no bearing on anything. But since you asked....

Rice was pretty much the same as he had ten or more sacks three of the five years he was there. He was still considered a very good pass rusher with the Cardinals and notched his career high in sacks in Arizona, not Tampa.

He was a good player for the Cards but I think he became more consistent in his play with Tampa. In Tampa he was putting up double digit sacks every year except last year that was not the case in Arz.

Thomas Jones? Bill Parcells was holding him back too.
Just some guy from another board, who blindly loves the kitty kats.

That name is never to be spoken here. Guard your tongue, sir - for this is a safe place.
I was actually going to try and goad him into posting here, but the punishment he would recieve might be even too harsh for him to bare.

And that is fine. I am not questioning that.

There are still fans right now who certainly believe that playing "at home" and "away" from that organization will suddenly make him better.

The only thing that is going to make him better is himself.

He simply has to decide he's going to put forth the effort that even his own teammates say he doesn't always do to become elite.

Afterall, aren't we paying him at a level that demands that?

Rice was already good before he left, so I don't believe he fits.

So it is down to Jones? That constitutes a trend that supports this theory I see many believing in?

Actually Plummer had his 3 best QB ratings as an ex-Card.

He was still a loser in Denver that they basically quit on and never hit that "Joe Montana" level that Bill Walsh swore he would.

I do agree that Davis coming to Dallas will not instantly make him a better player but I do think sometimes a change of scenery is good for a player who has struggled on another team. In the end it comes down to the work and effort Davis puts into his game. If he can do that then he has a chance to do something with this 2nd chance that he has.

He was not a loser in Denver...not by far.

I think his comments about Shockey are kinda flawed. Shockey plays in an offense that has legitimate receivers and an inconsistent QB. Gates and Gonzales do not.

Gates does have to share the ball with LT, but still when it comes to the passing game, who in their receiving corps besides Gates is a receiving threat. They cut McCardell.

And KC has always had a poor receiving corp.

I agree. I don't care much for Shockey, probably mostly because he is good and on a rival team. He is a hot head and makes bad comments as he speaks his mind. However, he is still talented. I would take him from that aspect alone.

Hey, we got TO, so would we take Shockey also if we could. Say if we didn't have Witten or Fasano.

yeah he really wasn't, Shanahan just realized he wasn't going to win a super bowl with him, but he did take Denver to the AFC championship, and had them in playoff position when he was benched.

Part of the problem is that he has been playing against the Pats/Colts/Steelers in the AFC. Not making any excuses for him, but the team around him was not as good as those teams.

I agree with this one. It was not until he came to Dallas where his career took off big time.

It was one of the greatest moves ever made by the cowboys and one I'm sure the Cardinals had no clue what they let get away.If Davis has anywhere close to the impact of Novacek I will be runnin' around like a blind dog in a butcher shop happy.:D

I hope Davis can make the most of this opportunity. I do agree with Alexander that the move alone is not what will make Davis better but the work and effort that Davis puts into his game. Evidently the Cowboys think Davis at guard is a good fit for us and now it is up to Davis to prove them right.

People always talk about the triplets but I have always thought it should have been the Quadruplets. I know that doesn't sound as sexy, but Novacek was clutch when Troy needed him the most.Hell you could almost say quintuplets as Moose was clutch as well. Damn skippy those were the days.WOW !:starspin

No doubt Jay was Troy's safety net when the heat was on.

I am very pleased with our draft additions as it keeps Davis inside.

In that role, I think he has a chance to succeed. Putting him outside at left tackle would have been a mistake.

Novacek was nearly as important of an acquisition as Charles Haley in my opinion. He made Aikman a better quarterback and it could be argued that our failure to find another player like him was a contributing factor in our offensive output.
