The National Football League does a terrible job of hiding it. If the league has a favorite division, it is undeniably the NFC East. As the most visible division in the league, the NFC East gets a lot of eyes on it on a weekly basis. One of the unfortunate ripple effects from this is that players within it can sometimes be overrated since they are seen by so many.

For the Cowboys:

Dallas Cowboys: Ezekiel Elliott
This choice was not made to incite the running backs actually do matter crowd, it was just an acknowledgment of where we are in our current moment. Zeke is often mentioned among the truly elite running backs in the game right now and the reality is that he simply isn’t there anymore.

There is no doubt that paying a running back what the Cowboys did Elliott is not the wisest of investments and that is a reality that they have to live with. Part of the “overrated-ness” is the attention that big-time contracts bring and there is no lack of attention when it comes to Elliott’s game.

Oh yeah.....Barkley....

New York Giants: Saquon Barkley
In talking about Ezekiel Elliott, we mentioned contracts as part of what goes into making a player overrated, well so does draft stock.

While Saquon Barkley hasn’t exactly had a fair shake of an opportunity to prove himself in the NFL he has hardly justified the New York Giants spending the second overall pick on him in 2018. The pressure is really on him in 2021 to deliver and carry his team to legitimate success, but as a running back even if he puts forth a Herculean effort it might not necessarily be enough.

There is no denying that Barkley is the best running back in the NFC East, but overall he is certainly someone who is hyped up just a little bit too much.

Barkley is eligible for an extension now. I hope he goes to Cabo and holds out like Elliott did. I doubt Giants fans would be screaming like idiots ‘pay da man’ and front office would cave like Jerry did.

That injury has to be weighing heavily on Barkley. Does he hold out or not?

The ONLY reason the NFCE "gets a lot of eyes on it on a weekly basis" is due to our Cowboys. That division wouldn't even be acknowledged w/out them.

Dallas should be in the NFC South. I recall the Cardinals being in the NFCE as well. o_O

We’d still be the biggest division if we had Baltimore or NE instead of DAL. It’s the most popular because all 4 teams are 4 sport markets. We have the biggest NY team in our division, it’ll always be tops just for that.

Are we talking about Cowboys or any players in the league? And by overrated we mean a player who gets more acclaim than he is entitled to, not a player who is thought to be good but sucks, right? So if I say Demarcus Lawrence is overrated it doesn't mean he sucks, it just means he is not as good as the accolades he gets. After Lawrence I think it is Amari Cooper.

Zeke isn't overrated because I see a lot of criticism of him here and very little positive commentary. If people were raving about Zeke I might argue he is overrated but when I listen to the radio or read about the NFL, I just don't see anyone but Jerry burying Zeke in compliments. I think most people have Zeke as a guy who is underperforming expectations.

I think a lot of Cowboys players are overrated in the sense they are claimed to be better than they are. This is all part of Jerry's marketing strategy to keep up interest in his overrated team.

I'm anxious to see your list of elite RB's. If Zeke isn't (we will find out this year) then there isn't many in this league.

There was a time I'd spend hours debating backs. Not so these days. Backs are plug n play. And teams that have that structure are going to do well with player turnover what it is. Urban Myers done it for years in college and even the NFL has realized it with the rookie 4 year contracts.

Interesting note about Elliott is he fumbled six times in 2020, which was the most by any non-quarterback.

The days of Barry Sanders, Emmitt Smith, Tony D. and Earl Campbell are gone. You know the drill. When players have no loyalty to the team, then the fans will follow suit which brings no loyalty to the players or the team by the people who pay for merchandise and tickets.

The RB Position Is Overrated.. The Browns got the perfect setup with Hunt and Chubb

Chubb is eligible to go to Cabo and hold out right now. He should. Look at what happened to Barkley. Chubb wants paid and RBs have a small window. Chubb can share a room with Barkley in Cabo and save expenses. Chubb needs to shut it down until the Browns pay him. Why risk a camp injury? Hold out and if the Browns don’t cave, report the day before the season starts.

Hunt is signed through 2022 but probably wants more coin. He should hold out too.

and let them sit out and cry.. Draft a RB every couple of years and keep it moving...

Same goes for their overrated QB.

Samuel?

No Dak?

Here's my list:

Dak
Hurts
Jones
Young-He needs to show alot more to deserve the hype he gets. I honestly dont have one for WFT. They all are trash.
All they talk about is Young so we shall see in 3 years.

Dlaw and all the former hotboyz who are no longer with us
Jaylon
Zeke
Dak

All hype train engineers

Mayfield and Chubb need to join forces and go to Cabo like Elliott and holdout. Browns would have to cave. $40M/year extension for Mayfield and $12M/year extension for Chubb. Let the good times roll. Make it happen so I can sit back and laugh at the stupidity of NFL owners. Swimming in money with all these tv deals and Amazon.

NYG will probably give it to him. Unless Jones shows out this year they will not be paying high money for QB at least 4-5 years from now.
