There are several Cowboys talked about for the HOF and the ROH. What guys on O, D, and STs that never get talked about do you think are the most underrated in Cowboys franchise history by us fans?

For me?

On O it is Tony Hill.
On D it is Everson Walls
On STs it is Rafael Septein

I don't know Einstein. Because they are underrated they were never much talked about.
Is this a trick question, Big Minnesota?

I'd say on Offense, it would be John Niland. On Defense it would be Harvey Martin. On Special Teams, I'd say Danny White.

I'll have to go with the 90s until current, I was too young for anything before.

Offense-Kevin Williams, Kevin Gogan, John Gesek, Ray Donaldson, Frank Cornish

Defense-Larry Brown (even with the MVP he was still underated), Brock Marion, Tony Casillas, Dixon Edwards and best underated performance goes to Scott Case in SB 30, no one ever talks about the punishment he dished out to SteAler WRs.

Special Teams-Kenny Gant, Ken Norton (got alot of notice for being a LB but was an excellent special teamer)

I know you asked for one in each catagory but I couldn't help it.:D

Larry was garbage, if Neil O' Donnell did not go color Blind in the SB, Larry would have cut the next year....Kevin Williams was a horrible WR and Frank Cornish- did he even play, maybe in mop up duty on the line but never started....Septian was not underrated, he was basically a star kicker, til he mess with that youngster...

Jeffcoat was underrated....Bates underrated.....Novachek underrated

You know thats a good question,
I think theres allot of older cowboys who are underrated not by me or Cowboy fans I speak to but If you mean the rest of the NFL media..
Hollywood Henderson Great talent ( wasted on drugs )
Preston Pearson will always be Mr 3 down to me
I loved Septian, Great kicker.

And then you have HOF who you may or may disagree with me but I personally think they should be in there

"Bullet" Bob Hayes
Cliff Harris
Harvey Martin
Ed "TOO TALL" Jones
No doubt about it

and I loved Charlie Waters. I know he has no shot in the Hall but talking about team leaders This GUY optimizes what A TEAM LEADER SHOULD BE

Well, for me the criteria might be different than for others. Underrated to me means under appreciated. When I think under appreciated, I think Hall of Fame.

Offense...Bob Hayes
Defense...Chuck Howley

For Special Teams then I have to talk about the guy no one remembers for his ST play, Mel Renfro. He still holds Cowboys records for KO return average, but nobody ever mentions how good he was on STs.

Howley is a great one. I forgot just how much he contributed to the team he was the Only MVP in a SB that his team lost, Thats another guy who should be in the HALL. That blasted Colt SB game really killed us..If we could have only won that.. I few other Cowboys would have made the Hall

He was a starting CB on 3 Superbowl champ teams and did a pretty good job on Jerry Rice in the back to back years, I'd say he's underated. Besides I'm just talking about his Cowboys career, I don't care what he did for the Raiders.;)

i'm not sure, but i think there are federal laws that say if you have either a nickname or a trademark move - much less if you have a move for your nickname, you can't be considered underrated. : )

Cornish played out the '93 season and started at center after Stepnoski got hurt, and they went on to win the Superbowl with him at center, if I'm not mistaken.

K-Dub turned out to be a useful #2 WR in the '95 supebowl season and make some clutch catches along the way, so I wouldn't say he was horrible, he wasn't Harper but he wasn't horrible.

I'll agree that Jeffcoat was underrated, but Bates and Novachek got their probowls and notoriety for their play.

Despite all the love he gets around here, I still think Darren Woodson is underrated.

Special teams-Jay Saldi
Defense-Michael Downs
Offense-Tom Rafferty

Saldi and Downs did not have long careers but they were great on those units in thier prime.
Rafferty was the consumate pro. Played hurt all the time. He also had a tough act to follow when he took over for John Fitzgerald at center.

IMO

Offese- John Fitzgerald Center from the 70's. The guy was a great anchor on that Oline and is over looked often.

Defense- Everson Walls DB I thought he was one of the most complete DBs we've ever had. He covered a lot of ground and he had great ball skills.

ST- Kenneth Gant The Shark. He was tremendous in coverage and was always around the ball.
