CowboyJeff...you know as well as I do the the Pro Bowl is OVERRATED!

There are tons of players that never made the Pro Bowl, yet were very, very good underated football players. Don't let the Pro Bowl influence you...

you pretty much re-stated what I said. I said I consider underrated players as those who have NOT made a pro bowl.

yea, but it never fails. sooner or later someone will want to say someone's "opinion" is wrong. in the end, who cares? we don't have a "forum teacher" to come in and grade our choices, so this "that's fine, that's not!" crap is just that.

crap.

I think my opinion sucks and grade it a "D." :D

Cornish played out the '93 season and started at center after Stepnoski got hurt, and they went on to win the Superbowl with him at center, if I'm not mistaken.

K-Dub turned out to be a useful #2 WR in the '95 supebowl season and make some clutch catches along the way, so I wouldn't say he was horrible, he wasn't Harper but he wasn't horrible.

I'll agree that Jeffcoat was underrated, but Bates and Novachek got their probowls and notoriety for their play.

You're partly right. Cornish did take over when Stepnoski got injured in the Minnesota game in 93 and started the last 3 games of the regular season. But when the playoffs began, against Green Bay, San Fran and Buffalo....John Gesek got the starting nod at C, even though he started at RG the year before in 92, he had some experience at C with the Raiders in the late 80s. I also thought it was kevin smith who was the one playing good D on Jerry Rice, and Rice got most of his TD catches in the 1994 reg season and NFC Championship games when they beat us on Larry Brown.

As for my underrated Cowboys.....I too followed mostly the 90s Cowboys as I was born in 1981.

Offense - John Gesek, Mark Tuinei, Kelvin Martin, Kevin Gogan, Ray Donaldson

Defense - Tony Casillas, Tony Tolbert, Thomas Everett, Jim Jeffcoat

Special Teams - Kelvin Martin (again for PRs) Kenny Gant, Robert Williams, Issiac Holt, Matt Vanderbeek, Joe Fishback

Yeah I had forgotten all the details of when Cornish played and the circumstances, thanks. I remember seeing both K. Smith and Brown on Rice at different time during games, I guess when the 49ers would move Rice around to get different matchups. They both did a good job on Rice, actually good enough to get by San Fran 2 years in a row. But, yes L. Brown did get torched by Rice in '94. What I was arguing against was the thought process that L. Brown was garbage and that's ludacrous. He was a starting DB on 3 SB champ teams, to me that's hardly garbage and he was underrated because he did make plays and get interceptions at key moments over the years for the Cowboys, no he wasn't great, but he got the job done and some don't appreciate his contributions, especially those who call him "garbage".

I'd say on Offense, it would be John Niland. On Defense it would be Harvey Martin. On Special Teams, I'd say Danny White.

Great choices. I agree with your offensive pick (obviously)

Defensively my choice is Jethro Pugh. He led the boys in quarterback "traps" from '66 to '71 I believe. He will never get the credit that is deserved because he played beside the best DT of all time.

For speacial teams there are several, however my pick is Jay Saldi

Hate to go all old school on this, but I figure you younger fans will dish out love for the more recent guys.

For me I would say Danny White. He took a lot of heat because Dallas did not make it to the SB with him under center but I think it takes an overall team effort to win SB not just the QB. I think as the team got older and the drafts were less than great the talent level dropped which had more to do with not making SB than Danny White.

OFFENSE: Don Perkins (great player on bad teams)
DEFENSE: Harvey Martin (did not even make the preliminary list for HOF last year)
ST: Danny White, P

It's unbelievable that Martin is not with Perkins in the ROH.

Well, for me the criteria might be different than for others. Underrated to me means under appreciated. When I think under appreciated, I think Hall of Fame.

Offense...Bob Hayes
Defense...Chuck Howley

For Special Teams then I have to talk about the guy no one remembers for his ST play, Mel Renfro. He still holds Cowboys records for KO return average, but nobody ever mentions how good he was on STs.

You know, your choice on D was the first thing on my lips, so let me just say..

Defense : George Teague

Offense: Tony Hill

Special Teams: Dale Hellestra

Hellestra is a excellent choice, I totally forgot about him, he was probably the greatest long snapper of his time. Welcome to the board!
