Obviously when the Cowboys practice in Austin summer heat, they win Super Bowls!
(1990-1996)

Then they moved it to Wichita Falls, then indoors to San Antonio and practiced in air condition.
Then to California.

We just continually got softer and softer as a team.

Time to bring back the winning ways! I'll make a phonecall to St. Ed's if Jerry needs any help??
Q2 stadium might also be a good spot!

post hoc ergo propter hoc.

If I were to list the reasons the Cowboys fell apart it would basically be poor coaching, the core got older and the picks to replace the core were not good and no general idea how to build a team in the modern day. They did not really have a firm identity on any side of the ball again until the late 2000s, just a desire to try and find stars and hope they could carry scrubs. Their entire draft scheme seems to be to go for boom or bust prospects which leads your team to be decently top heavy but have no depth and some bad starters at multiple positions.

I could keep going but the heat does not make my list of reasons the Cowboys fell apart when there are so many terrible football decisions one can point to instead.

There's surely a big difference between our former days of practicing at St. Edward's University and the team we field today. The players and the various coaches will all be changed dramatically from those former days.

Most of the players wouldn't likely be very happy about practicing in the 100-plus-degree hot climes of today. Earth warming isn't doing us or them any favors, nowadays, in Texas. The players will be themselves, regardless of where they choose to practice.

The CBA rules about limiting practicing surely aren't very conducive to maximum benefits being seen by the players, either. I think our situation is better left as is, in the cool climes of Oxford. It seems the overall setup there is a bit more favorable to success. They have fewer distractions.

I get why you would say Austin “is the place”. Problem is, the NFL is under a totally different set of rules in the league’s player agreement. Rules for the number of padded practices have been greatly reduced since the glory days of the 90s when two a days in pads were used in the Texas heat.

I liked it better when players practiced more. IMO, the reduction in practice time has made the NFL game much sloppier. Especially in the fundamentals of blocking and tackling.

I think you are making a correlation error. The Cowboys were good in those years mainly because of coaching and talent. They could have held training camp in Death Valley or an Alaskan glacier and been good!

The team has a long history in Southern California, conducting training camp in Thousand Oaks from 63-89 and were one of the winningest teams in Pro football during that era. Don't think there is any correlation between training camp location and winning but in this case Jerry knows it's important to keep the Southern California roots strong because the Cowboys have a large fan base in the area which equals more yacht money for Jerry.

you do realize the old cowboys regime was in cali for camp as well..not new not making a difference

also have you noticed they dont allow hard hitting practices where you wear players out with real football anymore..there are rules. Also have you noticed they took a lot of hitting out of games, penalties galore.

can many of you STOP living in the past,,this isnt your dads era of football anymore,. Its not like boot camp like it usd to be, there unions, caps, and players are being protected because money rules money comes from stars being available.

TY :hammer: absolute ZERO..I mean if thats all we need is heat, why not stay in dallas, practice at the star, practice at home..why do teams not practice on their home fields more, why separate practice fields?? just saying why move its hot here as a fan who lives in Arlington, id luv to go watch practices during came. Instead cali gets our glory, glory ....lelol

Never gonna happen. The Joneses make to much money from Southern California. Plus Jerrah gets to come out of his coffin and sign autographs. The Joneses are stars now.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Man are you just talking? It been hitting over 100 daily this summer. Those players will have heat strokes out there and more issues. This team lacks direction and focus.

Practice in 100 degree weather for what? It’s not like any regular season game will reach that temperature outside. It’s a different time and age in the NFL. These players are worth millions and these owners are not going to risk having a player die from a heat stroke to prove some toughness point to a fanbase that jerry already treats as bottom girl status anyway.

Not only that, but there are a greater number of stadiums nowadays that have some sort of a roof (fixed or retractable) than existed in those days. Below are the current stadiums with a roof:

  • Allegiant Stadium for the Las Vegas Raiders (for obvious reasons)
  • AT&T Stadium
  • Ceaser's Superdome (Saints)
  • Ford Field (Lions)
  • Lucas Oil Stadium (Colts)
  • Falcons Stadium
  • NRG Stadium (Texans)
  • SoFi Stadium (LA for not sure why considering it's Los Angeles)
  • State Farm Stadium (Arizona)
  • US Bank Stadium
The biggest reasons that the Cowboys had to practice outdoors then was because Texas Stadium still was exposed to the elements, and the Cardinals were in our division and played at Sun Devil Stadium. The vast majority of outdoor stadiums are either in cold environments or are in places such as Florida and California. Is the OP suggesting that they practice in Antarctica?

I agree a lot of these new stadiums have controlled environments now.
