Obviously when the Cowboys practice in Austin summer heat, they win Super Bowls!
(1990-1996)

Then they moved it to Wichita Falls, then indoors to San Antonio and practiced in air condition.
Then to California.

We just continually got softer and softer as a team.

Time to bring back the winning ways! I'll make a phonecall to St. Ed's if Jerry needs any help??
Q2 stadium might also be a good spot!
Yep !
Toughen up this team.

I read to much hitting but it’s a little suspicious that we get it two straight years and most teams don’t get fined at all

Well, yeah, that's my point. What is the limit between too much hitting in OTAs? Obviously, they're not tackling, but they have to have some contact, or it's not really practicing, is it? Why don't they just make the NFL flag football? They may as well.

but cali was started in the 60s TC was there long before Jerry thought about being a NFL owner..hes continued Cowboy tradition, you dig?? Get it through your thick head its a continuation of the 60s-80s era TC and Jerry simply carrying it over.
Training camp locations for the Cowboys - first three years:
1960 - Pacific University, Forest Grove, OR
1961 - St. Olaf College, Northfield MN
1962 - Northern Michigan University, Marquette MI

Not only that, but there are a greater number of stadiums nowadays that have some sort of a roof (fixed or retractable) than existed in those days. Below are the current stadiums with a roof:

  • Allegiant Stadium for the Las Vegas Raiders (for obvious reasons)
  • AT&T Stadium
  • Ceaser's Superdome (Saints)
  • Ford Field (Lions)
  • Lucas Oil Stadium (Colts)
  • Falcons Stadium
  • NRG Stadium (Texans)
  • SoFi Stadium (LA for not sure why considering it's Los Angeles)
  • State Farm Stadium (Arizona)
  • US Bank Stadium
The biggest reasons that the Cowboys had to practice outdoors then was because Texas Stadium still was exposed to the elements, and the Cardinals were in our division and played at Sun Devil Stadium. The vast majority of outdoor stadiums are either in cold environments or are in places such as Florida and California. Is the OP suggesting that they practice in Antarctica?
Also why can we not just empty out the hotel attached to the Star and just do TC at the Star and there outdoor and indoor facilities?

I think Jerry does it this way as 1. As someone said, it is a Cowboys tradition to train in California, and 2. The Cowboys have a massive fan base in California.

He Grew up in So Cal and wanted to bring a team there at 1 point and like you said we have a big fan base there and he does not want to loose that cash cow of SOCal even tho Rams and Chargers are there now.

3. Jerry wants to escape the brutal heat (especially this year) for 60 degree Oxnerd.

Some people go to the mountains in the summer. Jerry goes to training camp.

Exactly, and I'd anticipate a lot of new stadiums receiving some sort of a roof. Why? Because Super Bowl hosting is big money, and because the players probably would rather play indoors. I like Soldier Field having seen a game there, but I'd expect the Bears next stadium in Arlington Heights, Illinois to have a roof because it's Chicago. So, soon we can probably add Chicago to that list. That seems to be the next team indicating they'd like to change stadiums.
Although the NFL teams are the main tenants from September to early January, all of these new stadiums host other sporting events (soccer, college football and basketball) plus concerts, convention-related gatherings, etc.

The team has a long history in Southern California, conducting training camp in Thousand Oaks from 63-89 and were one of the winningest teams in Pro football during that era. Don't think there is any correlation between training camp location and winning but in this case Jerry knows it's important to keep the Southern California roots strong because the Cowboys have a large fan base in the area which equals more yacht money for Jerry.

This.... its not where its how .....

Yes, but I think the Cowboys are probably still the 2nd most popular team there behind the Rams. Maybe the Raiders would be even with the Cowboys in LA

I think you can have a limited number of contact practices
It really effects the game but all have the same rule assuming it’s applied equally lol
But it’s all a part of the CBA the owners and players agreed to

I get why you would say Austin “is the place”. Problem is, the NFL is under a totally different set of rules in the league’s player agreement. Rules for the number of padded practices have been greatly reduced since the glory days of the 90s when two a days in pads were used in the Texas heat.

I liked it better when players practiced more. IMO, the reduction in practice time has made the NFL game much sloppier. Especially in the fundamentals of blocking and tackling.
I tried to give you a bigger Like.

From what I remember it was hotter in Wichita Falls than it was in Austin. Back in Austin we had great teams/players. We got softer and softer due to the coaching and losing key players in free agency. Practice weather conditions had nothing to do with our decline.

Wait just a damned minute here. Are you telling me that you expect these players to be paid millions of dollars and practice in the heat? You are inhuman!!!!
