Movie Moments

Just got done watching master and commander for the umpteenth time love that movie. So you have the one scene where the doctor is operating on himself and the other scene where the young officer decides he really is the reason for the bad luck and takes action to remedy the situation...so freaky when he is looking up while sinking down.

The ending of Lucky Number Slevin might be my favorite ending of all time.

Taxi Driver - where he pretends to shoot himself in the head with his bloody finger. Disturbing but so good.

Jaws - when they encounter the shark at night after the Indianapolis story is told. At the end of the attack you see Brody at the bow of the ship with his hand gun, star shooting across the sky behind him and Hooper off screen asking him "Martin, you Ok? You ok?"

Full Metal Jacket - the music in the bathroom death scene at boot camp.

Once Upon a Time in the West - opening scene with the train and windmill, Bronson doing his thing. Slow, eerie and tense build up.

Name some movie moments that had you in awe. May it be an intense emotion or unbelief.

Saving Pri. Ryan- When the General reads Lincoln's letter to the mother of fallen soldiers.

Inception- When the top doesn't stop spinning but gives a little flutter.

Sixth Sense- Bruce Willis is a ghost?

Wow! A great bunch of scenes have already been mentioned. I'm going to go with the scene from Casablanca where Paul Henreid's character gets the patrons of Rick's Bar to sing La Marseillaise and drown out the Germans. A stirring moment that makes me want to cheer every time I watch it.

For honorable mention, I'll throw in the ending to The Sting, where movie audiences actually gave standing ovations.

GREAT CALL on Mellish's death in Private Ryan. I literally have to cover my chest when i watch that scene & usually wind up in a fetal position.

Marathon Man - The beginning scene where the old woman recogizes the **** doctor walking down the street. And of course "Is it safe?"

Return of the King - The ride of the Rohirrim, King Theoden speech:
"Forth! Down fear of darkness! Arise! Arise, Riders of Théoden! Spears shall be shaken, shields shall be splintered! A sword day... a red day... ere the sun rises! Ride now... Ride now... Ride! Ride for ruin and the world's ending! Death.... Death!!! DEATH!!!!!!"

The horn is blown and they charge onto the Pellenor Fields.

The Color Purple, When Whoopie shaves Glovers face for the last time, I remember shouting out "KILL HIM"

You just reminded me of the dentist chair scene with Olivier and Hoffman. Still makes me shiver when I think of it!

My favorite scene from that movie is Holden's revelation to Alyssa.

That's a great one as well because it's so well thought out and it broaches such a unique and difficult subject with Holden nailing everything that needed to be said to express his true feelings for Alyssa. I would imagine there are countless people, including myself, that have been in a similar situation with another person (disregard the sexuality aspect) who have wanted to say something to another person who they are in love with, but are in the 'friends zone' and couldn't even come within the same galaxy of saying something so passionate, intelligent and poignant as Holden did.

I could pick them out of the Billy Jack movies all day long.

there is the one that the bad guy has a gun on a girls head .
bad guy see Billy Jack is not going to budge so
bad guy says to billy Jack " you would killer her, just like that?"

billy Jack says " NO you will kill her and then I will kill you, just like that"

Blast from the Past when Adam dances with two hot girls in the night club.

The chase scene in "Bullitt" established the standard for all chase scenes in movies to follow (yes, even "The French Connection"). I remember the "nit" of the green VW bug making several appearances during the chase. The TV series "Alcatraz" pays homage to that by having a chase scene with a (you guessed it) a green VW bug making several appearances with a vintage Mustang chasing the bad guys. Steve McQueen was the "man's man" in that movie. Totally cool and unflappable.

One of the most touching scenes in Shrek.

And who can forget this scene in Dumbo?

"Killick, i can't see."

I hold my breath when he pulls that bullet out of his ribs.

Another great scene, when they have to remove Lord Blakeny's infected arm, and the doctor starts cutting through the meat. Mutha------ that one curls mah toes.

For me it's the Godfather when the guy wakes up with the horse's head in his bed.

There are a couple parts in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. The part where they pan out and show the desert or whatever with the wolf guy, and then, the end, the totally senseless despair of the end.

Oh and the spinning bar scene in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and the scene with the midgets and stuff in Lost Highway.

That ghost scene was creepy. I remember sitting in the theatre with Mrs CCF and saying Oh God, he's dead. The hair on my arm was on end.

As for other's the last scene in the movie Stalingrad was touching, the guy who had survived the entire siege uninjured just sat down to die.

The scene in The Mission where the soldiers are about to attack the Indian village as they were singing.

Give us Free being shouted by Cinque in Amistad is up there too.
