Moving forward, what are we going to do about this secondary?

It's sad. As much as I want to contribute to this thread, I know damn well at least 2 of the 4 bums will be back next year. One of them will be Church - guaranteed. He's one of Garrett's guys so he's teflon no matter how bad he plays.

Our secondary has been bad for a long time, can anyone remember the last time we had a good secondary? For the longest, when we needed our corners to step up and make a play or simply not give up a first down on 3rd down they've not been able to do it.

Maybe 2009, I'd say. Ken Hamlin and Gerald Sensabaugh were serviceable at safety. I know there was a ton of ballyhooing about how Hamlin sucked, but we've seen what safeties who actually suck look like in the subsequent seasons. Alan Ball, Danny McCray, Barry Church, JJ Wilcox...

Corner wise, we were fine too. Mike Jenkins played out of his mind that year and the way his career went in Dallas still bugs me. He had talent, but the Cowboys could never consistently engage him the way he needed to be.

I seriously need to get on my knees and seek forgiveness for all the ill will I spoke on Hamlin and Sensy.

....with Jimmy.....Kevin Smith and Larry Brown. But we had a pass rush too. The DLine's ability to apply more pressure will make even the current secondary look better. Right now, we playing with oil and water...this secondary doesn't even tackle well. Somebody has to be laughing when film is being reviewed.

Claiborne is a candidate for a 1 year deal. He has played well and locked himself in as a starter of he returns. However his market isnt going to be great based of 1 decent year. He needs another year to get himself a decent long term deal somewhere

What I would do Is draft Ramsey, keep Jones at CB amd sign Weddell to be a vet presence in the secondary

Wilcox perplexes me. There was a point last season where I thought the arrow was pointing up for him and that this was the year he would take the leap. From a physical standpoint he's what you want back there but the guy just doesn't have the instincts to play the position.

Exactly......

You would think the guy would have figured it out by now....yet he is still as clueless as the day he got here. I'm ready to move on...

Just clueless.....:lmao2:

Perhaps you were blinded by your Kellen Moore hate last night......But Jones was horrendous last night @ CB giving up big play after big play. Go back and watch all of the Jets crucial plays...and you will see Jones getting worked over.

I don't like the idea of chasing an elite CB. We've been doing that for over a decade and it hasn't worked. Unfortunately like the TE position, CB is a position the Cowboys are infatuated with in the draft. So it wouldn't surprise me at all if we walk out of the draft with Jalen Ramsey as our 1st round pick.

I'd rather the Cowboys target a young inexpensive FA kind of like they did last year with Sterling Moore.

At safety it seems like we've been saying this for 15 years, FS is a huge need. I've never been in favor of the JJ Wilcox experiment. I think it was one of the dumber draft decisions this team has made in recent years.

I could stomach the drafting of Wilcox if he were at least an experienced Safety. But spending a 3rd round pick on small school player, with one year of defensive football under his belt was a huge gamble that, reeked of a GM/front office that once again tried to get "cute" with personnel decisions.

He is now what he was when we drafted him. A RB pretending to be a safety.
