Murray will be too expensive to keep

If you look at what Murray will get on the open market, you can bet that he gets around 8 million per year from some team out there. That's entirely too expensive for a pass happy team in the Dallas Cowboys.

It'll be important at some point for us to try to maximize his value. Best option would be if we don't franchise Dez next year (meaning we've re-signed or traded him) is to find a trade market for Murray after franchising him.

I fully expect with the offensive line we have this year, that he is going to put up massive numbers. We could get a pretty considerate compensation in trading him. Probably not Trent Richardson value, but I wouldn't be surprised if we couldn't get a 2nd or 3rd for him, maybe even more than that if he has the productive year he is capable of.

I think we have a lot of running backs behind him that will be able to step up in his place now. Even Joseph Randle who were were all pretty down on is coming on stronger given the competition I suppose. Not sure whether I would trade Murray this year, but given the right price, that would be a possibility too.

But the fact is, this guy is gone next year, we shouldn't come up empty handed this time.

I'm kind of expecting a Barber type deal Part Deaux.. Personally I'd consider giving him a 3-4 year incentive based deal...

It's already been stated that the Cowboys will not make a Marion Barber mistake again. They understand the running back market now. Murray will get a deal like Frank Gore's last deal or he won't get one from Dallas.

I hear ya but assuming he breaks 1,300+ and scores say 12-15+ TD's all while staying healthy, Jerry's old knees will get ta jerkin...:p

Frank Gore makes 6.5 million a year, but is a lot older than Murray.

I agree with the sentiment that this OL is getting to the point that even mediocre RB's could thrive- given the chance, of course.

No big need to pay elite dollars for this position. Make sure you have a good runner who holds on to the ball, hits the holes with purpose and balance and picks up the blitz reliably.
Then have a decent back up and a good change-of-pace home run hitter and you can be good to go with the Big Boys they have pushing up front.

8 Million per year? My question is 8 million what. Pesos? Yen? He ain't getting anywhere near 8 million dollars/yr. Or, perhaps in today's RB market, he might get $8M total for a 3-4 year deal.

Murray has two things going for him at present. His age is still youthful, and last season he did have a top of league season.

But his track record is pitted with under performance due to injury, and the market is trending downward when available talent coming up is getting better.

What? Seattle wouldnt even budge on 5mil for Lynch. And you think a team is going to pay 8mil for Murray? RBs are getting 2.5-3 mil a yr deals today.

You're confusing base salary and average salary. You should check your numbers.

There was already a thread on this wasn't there? On talkin' cowboys they said that the most the Cowboys will go is 3 yr 9 million. They also thought he should take it. That the market just isn't there for RBs anymore.
