Murray won't get a big offer anywhere

Along this line of thinking, what about signing Suh, drafting defensive line in the first, and RB in the second?

Just a thought. I think Suh would change this defense immeasurably.

I'm on record as a guy who wants Suh in the star.

I also think Rod could manage him.

Tremendous talent.

I'm also in the camp that wants to let Murray walk.

I'm also in the camp that does NOT want to draft a rb early. Give me two DE and a CB early.

Uh, yeah. He's known for that. I'm an OU guy.

He's about the same size, runs extremely physical, has an upright style like Peterson, and broke most of Peterson's records at OU.

I'm certainly not saying he's as good as Peterson. Doesn't have the breakaway speed.

Peterson was 7 pounds heavier, ran a faster 40 , had a 3 inch higher vertical, had a 3 inch further broad jump, and ran a faster 3 cone.

If he's not that good, shouldn't we all want him gone? There is a reason we were as good as we were this year. There is a reason Romo had a great year. For almost 20 years we had sorry running backs, running back tandoms, wannabes, guys who fooled us and jerry. Now we have a guy some consider the best in the NFL. A guy who is in the discussion of mvp. A guy who carried us the entire season. Now people are saying anyone could do what he did this year. Hogwash!!! It's like the guy whos about to be dumped by his smart, knockout girlfriend because he's a cheapskate, so he starts making up dumb stuff about her to his friends. Cmon folks,

Problem is people don't consider the chemistry of the team. We have a great O line but they also let us down at times. Some of Murray's yards came from him with not so great blocking. Our great line let Romo get sacked ten times in the last two games. Yes some were on Tony but that's a big decline from what they were doing. Some want him gone because of one fumble in the pack game. Over all he isn't a fumbler.
This was his worst season.
Can we find a guy who can protect Romo during his last years?

My point is there's a lot to lose Letting DM walk. Not much to gain by getting a 30yo, on his down side.

Norm Hitzges brought up an interesting name.

Mark Ingram.

Dallas might want to go there. Talented, inexpensive, lots of tread left, and averaged 4.3 yards behind an awful line.

After making a big mistake in letting Sproles leave they might want to hold onto Ingram.

Murray won't get a ton of money but more than we are currently offering him... I wonder if he will let us match his best offer.

Then why did it take him so long to get around to it?

This is because of an offensive line. Murray did a good job of taking advantage, but he's not the best running back in football by a long shot.

Agree. The OL wasn't opening holes the size of trucks every play. Murray had to fight for yards on numerous occasions. I'm not advocating that you need to pay him top dollar, but some need to give credit where it's due. Murray's success can be attributed to the OL AND his playmaking ability. It's not one or the other.

Murray had 1 good year with us.

Take the low ball payment, or leave.

We don't need fumbalina, eating up cap space.

If next year Murray is gone and the Cowboys struggle to run the ball then the same people will complain.

How many running backs could have done that here with this offensive line and that many carries?

Lynch, Gore, Peterson, Forte, Foster, Lacy, Charles, Bell, McCoy, Griffin, Stewart.......

How many did??? I'll take a known quantity any day...

Great post- but I disagree about Suh. Defensive tackle is not the problem here; if the Cowboys get a stud DL in free agency, it'll be an edge rusher like Jason Pierre-Paul, Greg Hardy, or Jerry Hughes.

So if the state income tax is such a deal maker, how on earth is it that the Cowboys (and Texans) do not have to beat free agents off with a stick?

It is a nice perk, but not nearly as significant as it appears. If I am a marketable free agent, I take everything into account. Money, team environment, culture, the city I and my family have to live in, all of it. If it just so happens I get the perk, so be it.

Yes, it is not a deal breaker, just a further consideration that Murray has to consider. It's been a negotiating ploy for a long time.

If Murray doesn't resign here, I see the Bills throwing a bunch of cash his way. With Fred Jackson getting old and the uncertainty surrounding CJ Spiller, the Bills seem like a likely destination for Murray.
