Murray's Fumble Issues - Fixable?

Over the last three seasons, it's 12 fumbles on 914 touches. That's a rate of 1 fumble per 76 touches. If you go the last two seasons, it's 9 fumbles on 719 touches...1 per 80. That's bad.

I don't care how many fumbles other backs have, that fumble rate is poor and it's not revisionist. He's not an explosive enough runner, a la AP, to overcome that kind of problem.

His numbers also don't include the fumble against the Saints that went out of bounds...and in a sample size like this, that would drop his rate like 10% over the last two seasons.

Murray has 8 fumbles in the last two regular seasons on 719 touches for a rate of 1 every 89.9 touches.

I just don't see that as an excuse for poor ball security, which was evident this season. We need to count ourselves fortunate that Murray did not fumble more holding the ball away from his body the way that he did. It's something he needs to fix or we might be talking about even more fumbles next season (if we re-sign him).

I didn't say it was an excuse. A comparison was made to Lynch(with wrong information saying he only had 1 fumble when he had 3) and the reality is Murray doesn't fumble it any more than Lynch.

Murray was the league leader in fumbles last year among running backs, so reality is he fumbled more than any other RB last year.

It doesn't really matter what he did two years ago. He had a fumbling problem last year and defenders will continue to go after the ball now with a vengeance until he proves that it is no longer an issue.

1 fumble every 89.8 touches is not a major issue. There is room for improvement, but it isn't some tremendous problem.

Adrian Peterson fumbles once for every 384 yards gained. Murray fumbles once for every 476 yards gained.

Adrian Peterson fumbles once for every17.7 points scored. Murray fumbles once for every 14.5 points scored.

Free agent fumbler for 7 to 9 million bucks a year?

His fumble issues are absolutely fixable. But only he can dedicate the time and work to changing old habits.

I hope he can if he comes back for us. He can continue to be an effective member of the 11-man unit to keep the offense moving like an oiled machine.

Demarco has a fumbling issue. Let's be honest, it's a minor miracle in itself that he didn't have more.

If we are going to be honest then lets be honest, until last season Murray has not had any issue with fumbling throught out his college or Pros. Last season he had 5 fumbles no excuse but 1 season does not make a trend. 4 of his 5 fumbles on the season came in the 1st 5 weeks after than he fumbled 1 time during the reg season that was 304 touches with 1 fumble. It is his job to protect it and I make no excuse for any player turning the ball over but to claim he has a real problems with fumbles is a joke

Everybody on the team can improve something about their game.. Everybody!!!

If they decide to resign him they better make it a priority to be fixable.

You resign him, you better be sure this was a fluke thing. A fumbler is the ultimate momentum killer in football. That one in the GB game was a killer and could have been the difference in the game.
