For the Sporting News Player of the Year Award (1954--present), the only people to win the MVP award who weren't a QB or RB are Lawrence Taylor, Mark Mosley (a kicker??????), and Lou Groza, a T/K who was the first to win the award. George Blanda of the AFC won it as a K/QB back when there was a separate award for the NFC and AFC from 1970-79. LT is the last non-QB or RB to win the award, back in 1986. Jim Brown is the only person to win it listed as a fullback.

For the Pro Football Writers MVP award (1975--present), the only non-QB or RB to win are LT and Jerry Rice.

Actually it’s voted on after the regular season ends but interestingly not announced until the day or week before the Super Bowl. So, I’ve always been suspect.
