My biggest fear is that, aside from micromanaging the cap, Jerry and Stephen think the team is already good enough to go all the way. .

So you are saying they were only watching when the offense was on the field.

They want to retool the defense in the worst way. They don't have the coinage to do it right now.

This. It might come as a startling reality to some but there is a thing in this world called a budget.

My biggest fear is that, aside from micromanaging the cap, Jerry and Stephen think the team is already good enough to go all the way.

I'm not seeing complacency at all. What did they accomplish?

My biggest fear is that, aside from micromanaging the cap, Jerry and Stephen think the team is already good enough to go all the way. The argument could be made. We were one play away from a showdown with Seattle, a team we had already beat, in the NFCC Game.

I am terrified that the FO doesn't see a need to go after someone like Hardy or match for Murray because they think we are good enough already and therefor would rather stick to a strict cap management.

Anyone else share this fear?

I am not saying this is happening, I am just saying I am terrified it might be going through their heads somewhat.
Do you know what ....

I've been watching sports for many years and the best sports coach to ever walk the earth is the legendary Scotty Bowman.... Bowman's greatest trait / skill / talent was to place value on a player - even at age 81 ..he is still colferenced on player worth ... amazing ....

I bring this up because contrary to your fear/ belief - IMO...someone - Will McClay? - doesn't believe in our talent ...someone does't think we can go 8-0 on the road again, someone does't think Romo is gonna go 16TD - I Int on the road again ..
someone is saying we had an absurd amount of double digit comebacks ...someone does't believe all the things that broke our way last year were due to talent level....

We got a little lucky, found some soft spots in the schedule ....and found absurd OL that came together and mauled the competition ...and hid our ugly defense .

It hurts to accept this , but I really believe this is what's happening -we're in tear and remodel mode with a new fiscal leader and a new eye for the draft in McClay.

they were smart not to overpay. it was a hard decision that they made, and i commend them for it.

Yes. It's harder too with the hype surrounding everything nfl. It's hard to not get caught up and then the frenzy starts and people flip out that the cowboys stand back. It's frustrating to lose these guys but every one of them will be a bad contract in a year or two and will likely be back on the market or bounce around... Like revis. Teams always regret the big FA spending. There's still a lot of offseason left.

I like McClay's critical thinking. An almost two decades-long approach, seemingly antithetical to HIS, yielded... bupkis.

I know all about Scotty Bowman. I grew up playing hockey and watching the Red Wings. He is one of the best coaches of all time.

The rest of that really doesn't apply. They're clearly NOT in tear down/rebuild mode. Not even close.

This is new chartered territory for us. The Steelers, Packers, and Patriots seem to keep their name out of this free agency thing every year. Well at least the first wave. How do they cope with it? lol.

I disagree with that statement the pack and pats have made moves with top tier FAs this year and in the past.

Haha ok Phil Jackson.

It was just another perspective. One that hadn't really been discussed. I guess calling it "my biggest fear" was an exaggeration but I figured I was in the right place for that. Hyperbole is the soup of the day here, everyday.

At some point, don't we think that they're thinking of everything that we think 1 million times over, backwards forwards and everywhere in between? I have to think that in a meeting room with all key personnel they all had conversations relating to topics like... "2015 is a new year" "everyone is 0-0" "let's prepare a championship team in 2015" I understand the fear but a greater fear would have been trying to overpay to keep the SAME team together in 2015.

Not afraid at all. In fact, metaphorically speaking, I'm sleeping like a baby for the first time since 1996. It seem's the organization finally get's it. Could the Cowboys use a top-tier pass rusher like Hardy? Sure, provided he can stay on the field and isn't suspended for the year should the NFL decide to initiate their own brand of justice. But the truth is, the Cowboys don't need Hardy to contend. Gone are the days of overspending for what players have done and not what they are going to do and I could not be happier about that. The offseason is far from over and the Cowboys will add a few more pieces...may not be big names, but know they have a plan in place and they are sticking to it. They are not trying to make the Cowboys a better team in 2015. They are trying to make a team like the Patriots, a team that has a chance to contend every year, with or without big name players. And for that you should put all your fears away.

Besides, it's football....it ain't that serious, bro!

I do commend them for making the smart decision and not over paying for Murray. My fear is that we are now being wise with the salary cap but our window with our QB is extremely tight. Maybe we should have went all in this year and dealt with the repercussions. Maybe not murray but a Hardy or someone that could put us potentially over the hump this year
