My case to sign Nnamdi Asomugha

Ok, before some you jump all over me about this,I know that buying "superstars" is not what this team needs right now,but this could greatly improve our team by getting a superstar without the "superstar attitude". let me just make my case on why Nnamdi should be targeted this offseason.

Our CB for 09 will be..
Newman- One of the best in the game...when healthy..I'm not confident that he will play all 16 games. Seems to be injury prone the last few years

Jenkins-Solid..but needs alot of work

Scandrick-Edges out Jenkins and could be a great corner.

Henry-Slow,overpaid,ZERO leadership, constantly torched for TD's

Ball- Ummmm....

So if/when Newman gets injured that leaves Jenkins and Scandrick..with Henry or Ball in nickel? thats just asking for trouble.

We are 10 million under the salary cap after we sign our draft choices(correct me if I'm wrong)..Releasing some dead weight could even help clear up more room. Zach Thomas will also be leaving which creates 5 more million.

Release
Ellis..Overpaid,old,ZERO leadership..can be replaced via draft
Henry-Slow,,constantly getting beat, overpaid,ZERO leadership..can be replaced via draft
RW(38)- Servicable SS but is making way to much than what he actually brings to the team..release or reconstruct that contract..or can be replaced via draft

With those 3 gone and Zach that can add an extra 11-13 million to the cap. Ware is going to get paid, but that still leaves more than enough. With 11 draft picks this year, we can replenish what we already cut, and get alot younger.

Nnamdi is the definition of a shutdown corner. I live in the Bay Area and always hear about him. I always get a chance to watch him and hes a phenom. Making the probowl and 1st team all defensive team shows how great he really is. With Newman and Asomugha, it would only make Ware and Spencer that much better(scary). They both can be left on islands, creating more pressure and different schemes. It would also help out the safetys play more against the run. With pacman gone, we really need more depth at the CB position, because if Newman goes down, it could get ugly. I've heard nothing about great things about Nnamdi from the raider organization and is a "team first" kind of guy. He plays in Oakland and you never hear a word from him, that should tell you something. Great teammate and even better player.

Another point is that the Eagles signed Asante last year even when they had Sheldon Brown and Lito Sheppard..adding a shutdown corner is always a good thing. They were ranked 3rd overall in defense, partly due to the fact that they could bring more pressure with two corners on an island.

Nnamdi has stated that he would rather not sign back with Oakland(can you blame him?)..Just kind of spilling my thoughts here with words..Do you guys agree with me?

no thanks. we need to get more players for our front 7 mainly DE,DT, and ILB and a safety more than another overpaid corner.

I agree, the front seven is more important and if they're strong enough the front 7 can cover up a lot of secondary issues with QB pressure. I like Nnamdi a lot but he'll come at a price i'd rather put into the front 7 for now.

Nnamdi would be nice, but it ain't gonna happen. We really can't afford him anyway.

some team is going to make him one of the highest paid CB's in the league
think 4-5 years for 50-60 million dollars. There is no way that the Cowboys can afford to match that.

Yep. I'd love him, but not at the expense of getting the linebacking and safety positions upgraded....or getting Ware signed.

We have 1 really good CB and two "Promising" young CBs.

Calling Scandrick and Jenkins "Really good" at this point is homerific.

not really...they both showed quality cover skills this yr...with another offseason they could both become really good

Becoming "Really good" and "BEING" really good aren't the same thing.

They aren't "Really Good" right now. They've got a lot of potential and showed much promise in their rookie years, but they are not really good right now.

they were both a significant part of the defense this yr, and both were far better than Jacque Reeves and Nate Jones were last yr...hell both were better than Anthiny Henry this yr

they are going to be good players, barring injuries...I certainly saw enough to make me think CB isnt a major need this offseason, especially when it comes to spending huge $$$$ to get another one....I think DB will be a target, but CB wont be the priority

I'm just really worried about the depth we have at CB..Signing Nnamdi would be making all those front 7 guys even better.

True, but we can address "depth at CB" in the draft, or on the cheap via FA. Right now it looks as if we're going to lose some of those starters in the front 7, and that immediately becomes a priority. We need to start up front, and work our way back. Let the guys up front make the guys behind them look better rather than the other way around.

1. Better then Reeves and Nate Jones doesn't mean they're "Really good".

2. Again, they aren't really good NOW. They weren't really good last season.

3. I bet you said Derek Ross was "really good" at one point.

Sorry, I like the potential they have to be really good, but I'm not enough of a homer to say they already are or that "They will be" really good. I'll call them really good when they are really good.

We have enough money to address the front 7 and get a player like Nnamdi..your telling me our front 7 wont be better than what Philly has? look at what they are doing, simply because of thier schemes with Asante and Sheldon

signing another CB to a mega-contract (we already gave a mega contract to newman) only hampers the Cowboy's ability to address other needs of the team, not only within this upcoming season but future seasons as well (e.g. re-signing Ware). Also, signing another starting CB only hampers the development young and promising CB's like jenkens and scandrick. Not to mention, you don't draft a 1st round CB to have him be 3rd or 4th on the depth chart. Lastly, superbowl calibre teams develop their own talent, not signing every super star freeagents to megacontracts. Not to mention, we are not a team that is one shutdown CB away from winning the superbowl.

Thus, for the cowboys, signing a free agent CB to 50-60 million dollars in the free agent market makes no sense.

No thanks. We need more help in the front seven more than we need another really expensive corner.

He's going to want an enormous contract that we cant afford.
