Tony Romo.

You would have been laughed at by me if you made that comparison in April, but through two preseason games he looks like a carbon copy of Romo.

Both have moderately good arm strength (which in terms of pure arm strength is what you really want nowadays if you look at the elite QBs in the NFL) Dak I believe had a better trajectory on his deep passes but Romo has a quicker release (still Romo's calling card as a passer)

Athleticly Dak is much better athlete and a bigger threat with his legs, however he seems disinterested in being the "duel threat" QB. He seems intent on playing with then mentality of a pocket passer. His maneuvering in the pocket mirrors a young Romo. He hasnt quite shown the ability young Romo had to manipulate the pocket (very few if any can on that level) but he is seems very comfortable moving in the pocket.

Traits wise is tougher to call. Dak does seem to have the same aggressiveness to attack the defense like Romo. He is not afraid of the deep ball and trusts his WR's to win those. He seems like a gunslinger in the Romo mold. Where this is hard to call is we havent seen him have to bounce back from that turnover. This is where his success make it hard. I kinda wish that INT hadnt been called back

Im gonna close with a different comparison to another elite QB. Drew Brees. What madr Brees special is that he was very able to sponge up and adapt to to an offense, being a guy that has been top end QB in different teams and different offenses. Dak seems like the type of QB that thinks to himself " What do I have to do to thrive on this system" and goes out and makes it a reality like Brees has been able to in both San Diego and New Orleans

We havent seen Dak react to turnovers, because Dak doesnt turn the ball over. Therefore hes already better than Romo, and every other QB, past or present.

:flagwave:

Mc Nabb. Dak has a pretty good arm and can move a bit. Seems like he could be a better field general than Donovan.
Dont see it really. McNabb was a pure vertical QB. If there want a need to defend the vertical game he struggled with short and intermediate passing. He was never a very cerebral QB, thats why his career ended with his physical ability started to decline

I think he looks more like Steve McNair or possibly Steve Young.
McNair in alot of ways had some of the same issues as McNabb. In the early portion of his career he wasnt a very cerbral QB. Difference is unlike McNabb it became a strength one his body started to decline.

Young as a passer was pure WCO

If we are insanely lucky he compares to Steve young. If we're really lucky he compare to mcnabb. If life is what it is, he's Ryan tannehill.

This is really the only answer. I don't know what people are looking at. Not that Dak can't end up being much better, but style wise he's Donovan

I'm jumping the gun but, Young in Mcnabbs body. Will see I guess.

Lazy comparison for me. Very simplified. Can run and pass. Thats the only comparison.

McNabb was a pure vertical QB. Without vertical threats he struggled to attack defenses in the middle of the field. Once his arm declined, his career was done

Dak looks downfield very well. Dak moves ok. Havent seen enough improvisation under pressure to back up my last statement yet but that's my guess as of right now.

There's a little of that Romo gunslinger mentality with Dak. That one play where Dak is running out of bounds then leaps into the air to throw the pass into the endzone would have been something a young Romo would have tried. Then you had that shot after the play where Dak and Romo are looking up at the screen looking at the play and laughing...kindred spirits.

I'm new so forgive me, but I like that there is no like button, or have I overlooked something? The like button is too much kiss you know what.

Bah there is a like button. My bad.

He threw plenty of intermediate passes to TO and Westbrook  and they even run the exact same way. Throwing motion very similar as well. Well agree to disagree

Reminds me more of Steve McNair mixed with a little Warren Moon (my favorite QB of all time)

Well...fwiw...Gruden compared him to McNabb too and he coached him in the senior bowl back in the day.

I am not high on the comparison myself...I think body type is similar...I have maintained Wilson and I see a bit of McNair as well.

I just don't see McNabb because Dak seems to have better accuracy.

A leader like McNair, yes, and I definitely see some Romo/#4 from MS comparisons, but Dak is not a clone of anyone in particular.
