My Cowboys stock report after tonight

Milton had a bad night while Howell had a good night. You'd think this blurs who gets the QB2 job but the law of averages explains why Milton won't always look great and Howell can have a better performance than he's been having this preseason; they are both solid qualified QBs for that job. Last night, in the pregame show they were saying Milton has a higher ceiling, while Howell has a higher floor. I wouldn't cut either one but I go with the higher ceiling for my QB2.

I think they keep both. Both deserve to be in the NFL…they can play. I think Howell is more the Cooper Rush type. Solid, dependable, makes the right reads. Can manage the system. Milton just looks like such a great athlete…top notch arm, great mobility, but still hasn’t put it all together with consistency.

Barham was feeling himself during the week. Hopefully, tonight makes him work harder. He wasn’t bad at all but the talent level he was playing against are mostly future Home Depot employees.

qB2 got a bit fuzzier for me, no idea who wins it now.

I think some of these posts are just weird look the kids a rookie he's gonna be inconsistent but if you watch the game the man was being chipped my offensive lineman who was free and untouched by our defensive line you remember how that went the last couple of years for our linebackers who blamed all our linebackers for everything and really up front they were letting 350 pound men get to our linebackers look he got chipped a couple of times off his route but he was trying to stay in his lane and stay under control It didn't take much of A Bump to keep him out of the play..


Let me drop some real knowledge on you i've been saying this for weeks i'm not buying into the fumes coming from the smoke that this kid was gonna start in middle linebacker Look at what's been going on at camp in preseason what do you not see you don't see winters and overshone winters and overshone I don't care if they don't look like middle linebackers and green dot wearing big giant dudes they work in this defense They are already locked in to both being on the field more than any other linebackers will be on the field at off the ball linebacker that is a fact that has been always the plan and I realize this hype for this kid is real I like him he reminds me of Brady James but he's also going to be inconsistent because he's a rookie and he had a groin injury he's out of shape and he's playing with a front that very much looks like our starting front the last two years.. What that means he's not getting the help up front to free him up and do what he needs to do that's what it looked like mostly last night to me..


If you don't think that these 300 to 350 pound free lineman that go unblocked can't play football either you all are watching something different than me It doesn't take much for them to just bump a guy off his route when they're completely free in open space you're expecting our middle linebacker to always win that battle I don't care if they were backups they are 350 pound wide open lineman that see you coming and that's it there she wrote..

Need to display he's a rookie with a groin injury that's just now getting back into swinging things and people were expecting too much from him I always said winters and Overshone will be the starting duo back there for most of the season and yes this kid will find his way in to the lineup and he will earn more and more reps but that's what he's gonna have to do earn them..

Vrs Purdys attributes , but with consistency.
.....they choose the consistency and schemed to his strengths.

Which backup candidate matches the scheme we have for Dak? Team adapts easily if a injury.

If the ones they have are showing no ability to play, when one of the starters is already a huge question mark, it would border on incompetence not to bring in someone especially if the team truly feels like they can contend for a Championship. Steele sounds worse than a year ago. Thomas has sucked. Shelton has sucked. If you are talking about Cornelius as a T it appears he has been moved inside.

Exactly....and by the way Lance still hasn't developed. Purdy has been a solid QB.

For those in here that say you want to see the defense more consistent are you serious what exactly do you think's been going on here they've been using different lineups they've been using players at different positions they're playing vanilla defense and we're seeing what really accounts to more thirds and fourths and some players that will never even make this roster playing and you want consistency out of the defense in preseason no this is a glorified live action practice...


These are just scrimmages where people overpay for food parking and go to the damn game and it gets put on TV and played like a real game you're not getting consistency when you're playing multiple lineups and 60 players, Most of which are not going to be seen much during the regular season when there's still a chance to win...


Preseason is the opposite of the regular season you're looking for individual performances You're looking for growth and progress you're looking for guys who are making an effort who seem to really want to be on the team that's it that that's what preseason's for this is a opportunity for a lot of players to get noticed and find their way onto the roster and get more playing time down the road that is it you're not getting consistency in pre-season you'll get consistency when the same all 22 with a handful of rotational guys play every week we'll see some consistency by game four with the regulars...

Neither because Prescott is not pigeon holed into a type of quarterback he can be mobile he can move around in the pocket he can be poised in the pocket this dude is not a system quarterback he is a real NFL quarterback whether you like it or not I know people want to over analyze what he's done but that is why Cooper Rush could also play in the same offense it is not a gimmick scheme offense this is a prototypical pro offense that you hope is surrounded with a foundation of the run game first and then you take advantage with your skill players Necessary...

So Sam Howell Cooper Rush with more mobility makes sense to me that he is the number two right now and Milton is still the project I don't think any team looks at their backup and go yeah we're comfortable if our elite frontline starter gets hurt we're gonna be OK no that's not what they're looking at You better have a better and improved defense you better know how to dominate with the run game because if your backup comes in much like Cooper Rush who was so overrated when he was playing you need the support of the rest of the team to make sure you can still win some games with a very average to below average backup..

They have flipped Shelton and Thomas from LT to Rt between games.
Part of the reason they may struggled some.
Hard to do as the coaches explained this. RT on game LT the next. But it is part of their plan.

It's too bad they outlawed the drop in roll technique of blocking you know just fall at the feet to offer some resistance because our tackles would do great at that...lol

No people are worried about it I think they do need a veteran swing tackle they need to go out and get one this week when all the cut downs in the dust starts settling on who's out there and who's available But you roll with what you have and what you're seeing now is not what you're gonna see in games they will game plan their protections they will slide and chip and block where needed just like last year when we had one of the top offenses in the league and we're glossing over the fact that I'm only worried about special teams and defense still because they have improved a thing When live bullets start flying that's when we'll know what we got out there on our two weaknesses from last year i'm not worried about our strength from last year where the tackles are questionable because they were questionable last year...

Whike that is probably true, we will suffer for it cuz Shelton/Nate Thomas / and Steele (in passing game) suck right now so we will struggle for that.
Hopefully Shelton gets up to speed quick

Team playing with much more energy than we seen from past teams in the PS.
This hopefully and should carry over into the season.

Seems they believe they have a very good team. And if that translates into early wins. It build confidence upon that going forward.

Even if slow out the gate, once the team starts winning and rolling (and I think they will), this should be a very dangerous team by the time the playoffs hit

I would be shocked if they do not bring in another OT before the season starts. Shelton is not even close to being ready to see the field and Nate Thomas is nothing to write home about.

I actually come away more positive about the Cowboys than negative. The biggest reason is that the players Dallas needs to evaluate gave them meaningful information.

Stock up for Barham and Mingo based on last night? One struggled and one sat
And Aubrey? Wasn't his stock pretty much as high as a kickers stock could go?

Shelton was drafted to be a future OT. Just like Guyton. You build for the future with the draft. He wasn't drafted with the idea in mind he would be playing a lot this year. He has show he can play. He did in college also. Give him a year to learn the NFL and spend quality time in the weight room. We will see a different player next summer.
