My crazy Conspiracy Theory on Murray and the Eagles

I think that part of the reason Philly offered him as much as he did is because they may have wanted some inside info on the Cowboys as far as how our offense works and maybe even our defense. I say this because the Skins signed one of our guys a couple years ago mid-season, only to release him after the season was over (or it may have been after the Cowboys game, not sure which) and I am certain that was the only reason the Skins signed him.

I know I know, I'm crazy for even suggesting it! But you can;t sit there and tell me that the Eagles this week haven't sat there and asked Murray "So, what does it mean when Romo says 'Tacoma'?" or whatever. Ryan Matthews and Sproles are more built for Kelly's offense than Murray is. Kelly needs quick, agile backs that can receive (I know Murray can catch, not saying he can't) and make a guy miss. Murray belongs in a pro style offense that runs down hill where he can be a bruiser. It didn't make sense to me when Murray signed in Philly, and still doesn't, especially after he has 9 yards total last week.

I disagree - teams are aware of the scheme. The problem is executing a game plan that can stop it. Of the offense executes like it should your going to have a hard time stopping the offense.

Yes, you're probably as crazy as the rest of us, but you're correct that teams do this.

And keep in mind, they needed to sign a bell-cow, and they subtracted ours -- they would consider that a double win, and well worth the investment.

I doubt Murray knows anything more about the Cowboys than the Eagle scouts already there know. Those scouts watch so much video.

I don't think Murray knows squat about the Cowboys' defensive plans for the game. Now, he did practice against them a lot. But, that works both ways. The Cowboys' defense knows just as much, if not more, on Murray's tendencies.

And even if the plan was for Murray to add insight, the Dez injury forces the Cowboys to come up with a vastly different offensive game plan.

Yeah, this is some crazy conspiracy stuff here. They could sign a guy who went to camp with the Cowboys for nothing if they were after information, and it would be more current!

But I will say that this Murray signing has always felt like a Rickey Watters type mistake-in-the-making for me. A big-money free agent signing with sky-high expectations, doomed to failure. I don't think he can or will ever fulfill the level of expectations that his arrival and contract would require.

And I think that although no one will ever admit it, I believe that both parties already have a measure of remorse about the deal.

Yes I can honestly tell you that when Romo is hollering kill, kill he is altering the play but unless you know the plays that are being called in the huddle it really does not matter if you know what kill means. Guys moving from team to team will not help much in terms of giving secrets of their former team. In the case of Philly and Dallas they know each other very well and as all teams they review a lot of film on the opponent. As for Murray lack of yardage last week, it still takes blocking up front for any RB to have success.

that's wack! jk.....but don't think this was the driver for them signing him. Chip wanted a RKG, proven back and taking one from a division rival and his knowledge that comes with it are bonuses. They paid too much and Murray fumbled in the 3rd quarter of the franchise's biggest game in 15+ years. (sorry, had to get that in there...still not over it! lol)

was film to cheap?

how many people really need other people to give them ideas. why would the eagles pay that much just to pump him for information? Scoring touchdowns is more important than that.

Kelly: HAHHA NFL, we paid big bucks to find out the cowboys offense, SUCK IT!!!!!!

NFL: Sooooo, we have film.

Kelly: wish we knew of that.

IF, Murray signs for that $6 mill a year, who doesn't get signed?

I don't think so. The Dallas offense is very simple and hasn't changed at all fundamentally over Garrett's tenure. There are different strategies game by game, but that's obviously not something to which Murray is privy. You don't pay a guy $8 mil for some info on one team, anyway, IMHO.

I do believe wholeheartedly that Philly's signing of Murray wasn't purely about adding talent, though. I think it had to do with taking him away from Dallas and making a big splash as well.

The Eagles will get all the info they need just watching tape and having faced the same offense twice last year. I very much doubt there's anything Murray could tell them that they aren't already aware of.

This about this: He seems to be getting rid of high priced players, because his success is the scheme not the players. So, he can plug and play. So, maybe he can afford to pay a little to get a tad of info?

When I say both parties, I mean both Murray and the Eagles.

For the record, I think the Cowboys could have done everything they wanted to do money-wise and still have gotten Murray signed for $6 million. But I'm not criticizing the team for having a number and sticking to it.

After this game, you are correct. They need those hybrid wr/rb guys like Sproles. Larry Centers, would probably be successful on this team.

I find it funny that Lesean McCoy gets criticized for being too 'east-west' and not going up the field fast enough or often enough. And then when they describe Kelly's offense? They're talking about wearing out opponents by making them run side to side. First of all, it seems to be a clear contradiction. Secondly, if that is truly what Kelly's offense is doing, McCoy and his speed are a much better fit for it than Murray.

Just because 'Tacoma' meant one thing a year ago doesn't mean it still represents the same thing. Teams change up their signals and verbage all the time. He can give them offensive philosophies but any coach with a brain can get that off game film.
