My crystal ball says....

The price for CBs is so outrageous that I bet we couldn't even use the Franchise tag on him for a year and save some cash.

I am leaning more and more towards using both 1st round picks for CBs. Prepare for him and Henry to both be replaced. Kepe them as long as we can, but when it is no longer financially smart to do that...thank them and say goodbye. They are past 30. Not worth the monster deals. IMO.

I dunno. I would like to do that but I know that not both of those CBs would work out.

The price of CBs has gone up but its really not all that its made out to be.

Im really waiting to see Hall's contract breakdown and if anyone has it, I would like to see a breakdown of Samuels contract as well.

Most likely, those contracts are like Clements who has so much money in the last 2 years, you may as well not even count them as part of the contract.

That being said, CBs aren't really making as much as it looks and these contracts are nothing more then bragging rights.

Exactly. What does that mean, he wants money and wants it now? That he's hoping for a contract extension very soon?

He basically said that if the extension wasn't done before opening day, he would go into FA looking for a deal. I think from the way he was talking, and they were discussing the Hall deal along with Asumgua (sp?), Samuel et al, that he wanted to get a deal done now and he thought he should be paid that kind of money.

That's what he said. Oh and that he wanted Hallie Barry.

I could go along with drafting 2 CBs in the 1st, but I don't see it happening. I do believe that there's a good chance that Newman leaves next year in FA. I don't want to lose him but I'm more concerned with losing Ware.

Ware isn't going anywhere. He will either get Franchised or will get extended before he gets to that point.

I bet we would match Newmans top asking price by another team unless its just crazy.

We can franchise him is one alternative. JJ is in the driver's seat.

I think it would be one of the best decisions that Jerry can make. We would essentially have of the best young defenses in the league for the next 5-7 years.

So letting proven good corners leave and counting on 2 rookie draft pick to secure our future is going to give us the best defense for the next 5-7 years??
How is this going to happen when drafting a corner has about a 5-10% chance of playing at TNewmans level ever??

I agree with you

Newman can piss off if he wants 70M/7.

That he can. And do other things to himself as well.

I don't expect players to accept less than what they are worth. But to talk about money and start campaigning while you are still under contract is not appropriate, nor classy.

He still has football games to play as a Dallas Cowboy. It is just clear right now that they are about his future. Not the success of the team.

Are people REALLY surprised that this is what he's going to be asking for? He's one of the top corners in the game and the deals that Nate got (last year) and Samual and Hall got this year have all but assured you that Newman will want that kind of deal. It's the going price now for a top corner, or people who are percieved to be top corners.

Yeah, I have no problem with it. You pay the players who are worth it. The contract would probably be structured to pay like 8-9 million per year and then void 30 million in the final two years.

8-9 million is a lot right now but with the cap going up each year, the prices will only get higher.

Just the way it is. You either pay what you got or pray you will nail a draft pick.

Well I wanted him to intercept that pass on Thanksgiving against Denver for the win. So I guess we'll just call it even.

The interview I heard was on Sirius NFL Radio. The whole interview was light hearted. The interviewer asked if he wanted the same contract as the 7 year/70 million. T-new said to throw in Halle Berry. There were no demands or anything like that, but he did say that he'd like to be extended so that Jerry would show he wanted him there.

To demonstrate how conversational it was, half the interview involved what hot celebrities could be interchanged in the deal.

Thanks, that's what I suspected.

You might want to post this in the other thread that talks about how "disgruntled" TN sounded. :)

That makes a world of difference, the other descriptions make him come across as a AH. The timing is strange though, Jerry re-singed five players during the last season, you would expect him to do the same this year.

MCFADDEN MCFADDEN MCFADDEN. I was yelling last year when AD was dropping in the draft, even the ESPN guys were rumoring that Jerry might do something to get AD. Screw these possible decent corners, WR, and RBs; and pray that they will have an okay career with the Cowboys. These CBs, WRs, and RBs are decent to okay at best. MCFADDEN is the real deal.

You guys can bash all you want, but I'm tired of waiting and seeing if a draft pick will make it in this league.

I see MCFADDEN in the crystal ball. Well, I hope to see him...

Actually he said something to the effect of "I'm not hurting for money but I expect to be paid market value." With that said, they were talking about the big deals the other CBs were getting. He then said that "Some team out there would want him to play for them."

He also said that he wants a deal in place before the first game, or camp. Can't remember for sure right now.

Take it how you want, and I did talk about the Halle Barry thing as well.

No. I am not surprised.

Just like when Schaub signed his deal, I said that Schaub's deal was probably the starting point in negotiations and that Romo would/should ask for much more than that because of what the market rate for Schaub was.

I am not going to be surprised one bit when Newman asks for 70/7 or, basically, 10M a year.

But he can piss off for that kind of money.

It's sounding more and more like Pacman may be coming. That may be so that they don't have to draft 2 CBs this year. They'll roll the dice perhaps.

I'd rather draft 2 guys, or even 3, but that is a lot of youth. I still remember Thurman's Thieves though and am not hesitant about rookies.

I agree that Pacman is SERIOUSLY on our radar and further, if we DO sign him I think we're still gonna sign another CB in the 1st, hopefully Talib IMO.

Tnew may end up being a cap casualty given his age and asking price - time will tell.

I wouldn't give him a 7-year deal. CBs don't usually last in the league well up into their upper 30s, with the exception of D. Green from Washington. But, he was definitely sliding toward the end of his career.

If he's asking for Jerry to be loyal to him, he doesn't need to be going around saying some other team in the league would be willing to pay for him to play. I know this is a buisness, but don't ask for loyalty when you don't display it yourself.
