My Draft thoughts

still feeling like its Ridley.
but not surprised if its LVE.

I think if Dallas was going to give up 50 the trade would have already happened, but we will see tomorrow obviously. Dallas is the one with the pick and no one has blinked, time is on the side of the Cowboys IMO.

I know that Seattle has a major onus to move him:
  • They're rebuilding, that's obvious.
  • They need draft picks, much harder to rebuild without them.
  • They're not giving Thomas the extension he wants. That's been obvious for over a year now.
  • Paying him $8.5 million while you're a team in transition doesn't make any sense.
  • They'll have to wait until 2020 for any comp pick they'd get when he leaves as a free agent
Compare that to Dallas:
  • Choosing to move their former free safety back to corner. If they had to, they could keep Jones at safety.
  • They have a young player in Woods who played well as a rookie and has a bright future.
  • They have the coach responsible for the Legion of Boom to coach up whoever they have back there.
Add it all up, and I see a clear advantage for the Cowboys. Call Seattle's obvious bluff. If they actually want to keep him there, unhappy, for another year? Let 'em!

same. i think (and i don't agree with this) but i think all of the defensive guys we want will be gone by 19 and we'll pick DJ Moore. just my opinion on what we'd do

Moore was the guy that I picked for who I though Dallas would take. Not the route I would go, but the player I thought Dallas would take.

I would hope we draft a Guard before a WR.

We can actually use a guard. WR is a waste.

FWIW, Dane Brugler has Vea listed as the 27th player overall.

Even the most glowing assessment mentions inconsistencies and holes in his game. But they're mitigated by his sheer physical attributes and flashes of greatness that he's shown. And they all say that with improved coaching, the guy can be dominant.

Also if Thomas was chasing Garrett down the field to ask him to play for Dallas, you have to think he would be unhappy about coming back to Seattle in 2018. And that was before Kris Richard came to Dallas, if this goes all the way into training camp next year you have to think Earl Thomas would be even more unhappy about being a Seahawk. Its something Seattle would have to consider in the locker room.

He is probably a 2 down his first year in the league. Thats why I see him lasting to our pick

Also as a draft gets closer GMs tend to pick for players who are more polished and can start right away. Vea and Will Hernandez are both unpolished and could drop, that's why I would love to see them both picked by Dallas in a "700 pounds of terror" draft.

It's something that I have to feel that they've already considered. I think that all of the talk coming out of Seattle on this situation is just that - talk.

I'm watching for actions, not words.

Thomas has been campaigning for his new contract for over a year, nothing's happened.
Seattle has turned over their entire coaching staff, save for Carroll.
They've shipped out several highly-paid parts of their defense already, with several more likely in the way out.

They can say whatever they want, but watching what they do tells me all I need to know.

They have no intention of paying Thomas any extension and don't want to pay him $8.5 million this year of they can avoid it.

They're simply talking a good game and angling for the best draft compensation they can get for him. Draft compensation that they desperately need this year. And it's why everyone already expects them to trade down in round one this year. Simply not enough draft ammo for their obvious rebuild.

Keep your powder dry boys. Let them call you.

I dont think Seattle will come down that much for Thomas. I think it will come down to whether or not the Cowboys want Thomas enough to give up a second round pick

I havent see Edmunds or Wynn linked to Dallas

Seattle will come down because Thomas is a 1 year rental for them as well at this point because they won't pay him next year

I would call Seattle when I'm picking at 50 and say, I'm turning in the card for Bates or Reid. If we take them we're done. Either we can trade our 81 for Thomas or you guys are out of luck

I think they'll fold

-I believe LVE is the favorite to become the team's selection at #19.
-Feel strongly 50 goes the Seattle for Earl Thomas
-Trade up from 81 to land their receiver, perhaps a player like St. Brown

There is talk that the Commanders are going to draft Vea if he falls. So knowing that the chances of him at 19 is going to be a miracle. Personally I would love if the Cowboys took him. We need that kind of bulk on the line considering that this defense currently does not collapse the pocket and lacks the bulk it needs on the inside of the defensive line.

Skins picked allen in the first, hard to see them pick pick another DT in the 1st RD.

I really dont want to trade our 2nd rd pick for ET.

What kind of trade market is there for Earl Thomas?

He's an expensive, veteran safety coming off consecutive seasons with lower body injuries who is entering the final year of his deal. Thomas is from Texas and has expressed his desire to finish his playing career as a Dallas Cowboy.

Player value is at its lowest this time of year.

I wouldn't even consider dealing my second or third round pick.

The most I'd give Seattle is 137 and Beasley. They don't like it let them wait two years to get a 4th rd comp for him.

I had an idea and I don't think it would happen but it would totally change this team moving forward.

Trade back in the first round to mid 20's say 26 and pick up another 3rd.
26: Rashaan Evans LB Alabama: Gives you thumping LB who plays with good speed who can man the middle. Trade 19 for 26 & 90

50: Anthony Miller WR Memphis: gives you a guy who is a playmaker, can play inside and outside, and has a knack for finding the endzone.

81: Tavarius Moore FS Southern Miss: Freakishly athletic FS who has the ability to play CF. Cowboys seem to like him.

90: Fred Warner LB BYU: Gives you a playmaking LB and is a guy who can play some mike, but could be you Will of the future and gets to learn behind Sean Lee. Trade

4th: Daurice Fountain WR Northern Iowa: Will need to move up but he is a big body WR who can potentially take Dez's spot after a year of refining his tools but he has #1 WR potential. Trade 116 & 171 for lets say 107 with the Jets

137: Cole Madison OG Washington St: Gives you an OG to compete for the starting spot at LT

192: Phillip Lindsay RB Colorado: Gives you a guy who can run inside or outside and also a good pass catcher with some juice.

193: Kendrick Norton DT Miami: He is able to anchor as a 1 tech and can take on double teams.

I don't know about the rest of the picks.

The next phase is to go out and sign Jonathan Hankins DT 1 tech, and Tre Boston both to 1-2 year deals.

IMO this team would be built for this year and setup for the future.

Reports out there also say the Skins like Payne over Vea, time will tell.
