Exactly......a defense with a STRONG front 7, not an undersized front 7 like the one we have and are continuing to build. Spencer 250, Lawrence 250, Melton 290 and McClain 300. Like I said enjoy watching teams run all over us and dominate the clock against us.

You are comparing the 49ers to Dallas, which doesn't work, also they run a 3-4 which Nix would be great in. In a Tampa-2, they want light DL to rush the passer, not stop the run. The downside of such a defense, is it bends, not breaks, so you will get sacks and turnover, but will give up rushing yards. Welcome to the Tampa-2.

Ok, so we signed and drafted Carr and Claiborne two man-man corners. So they don't fit the system right, so why are they still here? Does Selvie fit the system? Does Church? Do we scrap everyone, and if not why?

FYI not even Lovie Smith who ran the amazing tampa 2 follows its design much anymore. You need to play man to man these days. CBs playing zones are a thing of the past.....and try not to bring up Seattle because they play 4 times more man than zone. Bottom line is you need to be able to play man to man and be able to stop the run.

so.... you think by drafing a 3-4 guy like Nix, it would magically change Marinelli's style that worked so beautifully for him in the past with Chicago and into something you would think works? Why aren't you coaching this team? You should submit your application.

actually I think the run stopping ability of our defense is our strongest points of the defense. The light & faster defensive guys is what made our run in the early 90s so successful. Guys were quick to the ballcarrier and didn't trip over themselves.

now talking about change, today's offenses are geared for the pass, so it would obviously be smartest to develop a defensive unit based on pass defense, both with the rush and the DBs.
