I can be one of the more cynical posters here, but what Zoners may not yet realize that some C-F refugees know is that I suffer from P.D.E. ( Post Draft Euphoria ) Examples include the fact that I graded the 2009 draft as a solid B, that Montavious Stanley would STILL be our starting NT today, that Stephen McGee would fetch us a nice haul when we flip him for picks ala Ted Thompson. I could go on but I dont want to kill my credibility. All of the picks made this past week, will up until about 2 weeks from now or so, be my little treasures.

Ive learned to cope with this affliction over the years. And Im at the point to where Im not trying to fill your brains with analysis anymore. Instead I wish to fill your hearts with love for all of our new treasures

Overall grade: A

Round 1: Ezekiel Elliott

What Zeke offers us that no one in the draft did is a return to a tempo of football that allowed to bend teams to our will. We can go back to controlling the game on the offensive side, keeping our defense off the field and wearing out the other teams defense. Elliott could mean the same lopsided 4th quarters we got used to in 2014.

Round 2: Jaylon Smith

Top 5 talent in the draft. He is not a catalytic player on a defense, he is THE catalytic player on a defense. He is the type of player that will set the tone as well as put the playmakers where they need to be. Sideline to side line? Yes. Deep zone? Yes. Man? Yes. Blitz? Yes. Poetry? My heart weeps

Round 3: Maliek Collins

Poor mans Geno Atkins. Incredible first step. Not a run defender yet by any stretch, but he will get there. However he instantly improves our intirior pass rush. I think he wills a DT spot in Nickel and Dime which lands him starter level snaps

Round 4: Charles Tapper

Has the ability to develop into a teams main pass rusher. Great athleticism and motor, but misued and OU and needs to learn to pin his ears back and go. Once he learns and masters proper rush technique, we may not even care if Gregory gets suspended again

Round 4: Dak Prescott

Oozes winatude, grittiness and pluck determination. Needs to work on ball throwing, and many of the thinking aspects of QB play, but few have winatude like Dak

Round 6: Anthony Brown

Very fast and athletic CB. Seems to have decent ball skills but must play more discipled. Probably plays on teams as a rookie, but could earn PT as injuries set in and could push for role as CBs leave. Knowing how we are with late round CBs however, he may have already been cut

Round 6: Kavon Frazier

Box safety. Church comparisons have been thrown around. Needs to take better angles and have more discipline in the box. Should be a teams standout.

Round 6: Darius Jackson

Sparq guy with insane size/speed ratio. Reminds me a bit of Karlos Williams in that respect though I dont know if he is as refined of a runner that Karlos apparently was. However he does excel on teams so even if he doesn't get an offensive role, he should stick

Round 6 : Rico Gathers

I know nothing about him, so Im just going to post this amazing Prince video of him throwing some old fashioned blues down with Tom Petty and Steve Winwood

The illusion of truth.

People can keep saying this same thing. The data from 2014 and 2015 exactly contradicts the notion that we need(ed) a Zeke to do this "keep the defense off the field" thing.

The fact of the matter is that without competent QB play and a missing or hobbled Dez Bryant our offense held the ball for just a minute fewer than we did in 2014 when we had Murray set the world on fire.

Let's stop believing this lie just because people keep repeating it.

Good post but the "like" was for the video included.

I bet if Risen included videos with all his sarcastic comments he could get twice as many "likes"

For whatever thats worth.

Great post but I wouldn't go that far on Tapper. He may end up as a good LDE, Anthony Spencer-lite type - if he develops.

The biggest thing by far is Elliot and you nailed it. This team will be able to dominate possession time and because of that, dominate games. DeMarco had a great year in 2014 but so much of it was the OL - also he didn't get a ton of yards after contact. Zeke will not only get more yards after contact, he will also break off more long runs like we saw glimpses of with DMC last year.

Zeke is the game changer, and if Smith recovers completely he will be a game changer on defense in 2017.

Who said clock.?

I said temp of the game. Two different things. You control the tempo of a game you can dictate the game with consistent efficient drives and wear a team out. Basically what we did in 2014 and what we struggled at in 2015 with no go too players on offense. If you dont think Elliott greatly enhances your ability to dictate the tempo of a game, then I dont know what to tell you or your just trolling.

So you weren't talking time of possession when you said you "keep the defense off the field"?

That's.... interesting.

Yep. I was talking tempo of the the game. Keeping the defense off the field at the onset of games to establish a dominate offense, wear the opposition down and keep our defense fresh for the late part of the game when ths opposition is going t try to mount a comeback. Things were able to do VS elite teams in 2014 and should be able to now with a healthy QB, WR and an elite HB

Never said anything about a TOP rankings. Because if we were the 10 best team in TOP last year, then were the 5th best team in pass defense too. Meaning we had no need for a guy like Jalen Ramsey either

Great point, which these Ramsey fans continually ignore...

Oh we certainly can get by with a middling RB but thats not what I want. I want the glory days.
I lust to drive my enemies before me grinding them them down to the fourth quarter where
the opposing lineman can't look us in the face. Why accept "it'll do" . A competent QB is great
lets go get that too. Another Dez I'll sign up for that giving me a couple!

But drafting Zeek vs. blowing draft picks to move up to draft that franchise QB doesn't negate
grabbing the QB next year. By the way that keep the defense off the field thing is a little of a straw-man argument.
Of course we have to have that stud QB but Zeek is certainly part of the triplets.

You think the tempo of the game relies on the running back in the running game? Let's say that it did (the illusion of truth lie)... Why do we need to spend a 4th and 4 first round lineman to achieve it? We were down one of those first round talents and only had a 3rd round running back in 2014.

Ans did you use total yards to judge our pass defense and not our ability to make opposing defense inefficient when throwing the ball? That's lying with statistics.

Time of possession in 2014 generated a lot more points than it did in 2015.
PPG is the only data that matters... Zeke will make a difference... no use in fighting it.

Exactly, in 2014 Dallas outscored opponents by 115 points and ran to control the clock.

In 2015 they were outscored by 99 points and ran because they had no credible passing game.

Agreed. Some of us watch the games while others crunch numbers and manipulate them to serve an agenda, I think.
