Saw it a a press screening last night. Solid. No BATMAN BEGINS, but solid nonetheless....

Now if Rashard Mendenhall had been in it, I would have given it an A. ;) :starspin

Its funny. I thought that and havent even seen it.

So its just ok huh....

It didnt look like it had the makings/depth of Batman Begins.

Like I said before... I am into this stuff... so I will get some enjoyment out of it nonetheless

My wife and I saw it last night and really enjoyed it. If you like what you saw from the trailer, then you ought to love the movie.

Strangely, it's one of the few action movies where I would have liked to see 15-20 minutes more. Not really a complaint, just an observation.

They also showed new trailers for Dark Knight and Indy 4 before the film.

They also showed new trailers for Dark Knight....

I saw it at Warner Bros. in New York two weeks ago and it's fantastic -- the trailer that is. Can't wait for the movie!

I actually prefer the first one (not the teaser) over the new one, but I haven't seen it 50 billion times yet like the other one.

:laugh2:

That one never gets old. Great trailer.

BTW, you are spot on in your review. It is not on the level with Spider-Man II or Dark Knight (Or Superman II, for that matter). But it is right in that second tier. But that's what Iron Man 2 is for.

Thanks. Much better than most of the crap that Marvel dishes out. I hope they continue with quality films for the sake of the genre. :starspin

Personally I thought Spiderman I and II sucked, now I have not seen three so who knows. I also thought the new Superman Sucked and as cheesy as the 80's ones were I enjoyed them more.

I hope Iron man is above them...in MY book but who knows.

Honestly the only DC comic film I have really liked was that last Batman Movie...the first ones were just too cheesy for me to get into.

But...I am a marvel guy so what can I say.:laugh2:

Give me the X men movies or the first two blade movies and the first conan movie any day over most of anything DC related.

Oh...and the worst comic movie of recent years...the first hulk...TERRIBLE.

BP, S-M2 is considered a classic in the genre. What didn't you like about them?

I LOVE SUPERMAN I & II -- those 2 are the Gran Daddy of the genre today.

But...I am a marvel guy so what can I say.

That's your problem? ;)

Give me the X men movies or the first two blade movies and the first conan movie any day over most of anything DC related.

I agree...except BATMAN BEGINS blows them away hands down.

Oh...and the worst comic movie of recent years...the first hulk...TERRIBLE.

It still was better than BATMAN AND ROBIN, CATWOMAN, and most of Marvel's crap. GHOST RIDER anyone? ;)

I give it a B+ sweet flick, better than I thought it would be...

Dont bother seeing SpiderMan 3 - it sucked.

Wolverine is coming out too, right?
Dont care for X-men characters though... I will check them out.

Hulk was bad. "The Incredible Hulk" is in effect a REDO.

Agreed. SpiderMan 2 was the best of the trilogy IMO. Doc Oc and some real special effects and good storyline.

Superman 2 was the best IMO. The 3 villians.

CatWoman wasnt that bad.

Batman and Robin was made for the kiddies.
Ghost Rider was a bomb.

I have to say I think I liked Iron Man more than Batman Begins. Mainly because as great as the first half of Batman Begins was, the 2nd half left me underwhelmed. Maybe it's just the look they used for Gotham the 2nd half of the movie. It just didn't come off as a real city to me, and the action was a bit dull because you couldn't see anything (I know that was the idea and all, but I just don't think it works in film, at least not how it was done in BM). BM might not have used much in the CG department, but it came across as more fake than Iron Man.

Iron Man might not be as dark, or deep as Batman, but I found it to be more enjoyable. And Downey pretty much blows away all other actors in comic book movies. He nailed the role.

P.S. I hope I don't give off the idea that I didn't like Batman Begins, I do. I just think it had some big flaws in the 2nd half, and Iron Man on the whole is a more enjoyable film.

Just watched it I love it and it is the best Marvel comic movie they done so far. Robert Downey made that movie for sure.

I am also a Marvel guy and always was.

Now the Xmen movies where solid I had some things to gripe about

Iceman for one being so young Irked me so much when he was one of the original 5 X-Men and some other things but they where solid

If Ang Lee never directs another comic movie we will be ok.

Now I liked Spider Man 1 and 2 I have not really watched 3

Fantastic Four where ok

Now Ghost Rider was another gag fest which kind of blows he is such a great dark hero in the comics and they dropped the ball so so bad:bang2::bang2:

The punisher was sweet that was done right

The Supermans from the 80's loved the 1st one the 2nd was good the rest where cheesy

I liked the 1st Batman with Keaton hated the rest
Loved the old Batman TV series as a kid Bam Kabam :lmao2:

Batman Begins very very well done

The Return of Superman um nothing there it was well not good but not horrible

Very entertaining movie. Solid all around. Much better than expected. Definitely worth the price of admission.

I hope Marvel Studios produces every single Marvel flick from here on out.

Finally! The guy with the months long Iron Man avatar can stop reading other people's reviews and comment about the movie itself.

It was a very good superhero movie. A superhero movie doesn't have to be a classic like Batman Begins or Spider-Man II or The Incredibles (which people don't mention very much because it's computer animation, I guess). It simply has to follow a few rules, such as:
  • Present the freaking origin to the audience in the right way. Don't embellish and stay true to its roots.
  • Have continuity from the opening to the ending credits and don't go off on unnecessary tangents (i.e. The Hulk)
  • Cast and direct actors who can translate the major and minor characters to the big screen. Robert Downey Jr. did a hell of a job as Tony Stark. Likewise, Gwyneth Paltrow played Pepper Potts equally well. Jon Favreau did a very good job directing, imo.
  • Use special effects which matches the character's powers or abilities.
A few things I absolutely loved about the picture:
  • Stark's virtual workstation was positively kick***.
  • His trial-and-errors while perfecting the armor
  • Favreau's staying true to the Golden Avenger armor :D . In contrast, one of the few things I hated about the X-Men movies was the use of the generic uniforms.
  • Stark's blase billionaire view of the world before his transformation.
A couple of things I didn't like:
  • The notable absence of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s figurehead (don't want to give away a spoiler here)
  • I was fine with Terrence Howard's portrayal of Rhodes, but I have seen enough of his previous work to know that he could've given his character an edger side.
  • For personal reasons, I wish that the bad guys had been located somewhere in Southeast Asia instead of Afghanistan, preferably China or Mongolia. I kinda hoped there had been some sort of tie-in or future reference to the introduction of The Mandarin.
  • While watching the movie, I hoped that the #1 Afghan bad guy would somehow don the other armor and become the Crimson Dynamo. That's contradicts my own principle of staying true to the book since C.D.'s origin is Russian, so sue me.
Well, that's two original Avengers down. While The Hulk was a huge disappointment (which the new movie will hopefully improve greatly upon), he was the first to hit the silver screen recently. With Iron Man out of the way, there are only three to go, even though I doubt that Ant-Man or The Wasp have a chance in hell of being a lead character outside of an Avengers movie. When will someone finally get a Thor movie made? There is so much they could do with the character, it's scary, imo. It's time that the god of thunder had his say. :)

I was very pleased by this movie and have to say that TDK now has a big shoe to fill. I already expected a lot from TDK, but with the emergence of Iron Man, they have a responsibility to make sure it delivers, because frankly, Iron Man was more than I hoped for. I felt it delivered everything.

FOr the poster above me - I hope you stayed through the end of the credits regarding your complaint of a certain figurehead.

Also, there is a Thor movie int he works.

Wow! Very good analysis. I love the movie especially his work station. As a matter of fact I am going to go see it again sometime soon.

Thor, WonderWoman and assorted other ones have been targeted for a few years as contenders for the big screen.
