Because there werent any Chick Flicks out that the wife hasnt seen, she gave an ok to see Iron Man yesterday. We both like it. I agree with YoMIcks analysis that the first 2/3 of the movie were very good and the last 1./3 was only soso. I made that comment coming out of the move to the wife.

Best line of the movie was when Gweneth Paltros characters said to the sexy blonde newscaster that she does a lot of things for Tony Stark including taking out the trash.

you should have known to stay after! marvel alwaays done stuff like that. s.h.i.e.l.d. is in it but you have to pay close attention as they first dont call them selfs it...
I'll do better when I go see The Hulk. That is, I'll wait until after the credits UNLESS it's as bad or worse that Ang Lee's Hulk. yuck. :)

Well I know Robert Downey Jr. has a cameo in The Incredible Hulk, as Tony Stark. I hope it's not just in a post credits clip.

It's a better "popcorn movie" than BEGINS, but BEGINS is a better film.
I wouldn't classify it as a 'popcorn movie'. While it wasn't nearly as dramatic as Batman Begins, it was a solid movie, imo. I do agree that Iron Man is not in the same zip code as Batman Begins, which is easily one of the top three or five superhero movie ever made.

That would be a nice tie-in. I wish that kind of crossover, as small as it may be, would happen in more superhero movies.

I don't think I M was as "popcorn" as say, TRANSFORMERS, but it was def more so that BEGINS. It's a damn good flick -- one of Marvel's best, that's for sure. I gave it a very good review for BOF. I still think TDK is going to kick all of their arses! :star:

Went and saw this today. Not a bad super hero movie at all. Afterwards we went to Speed Racer and ended up walking out an hour into it. Save your money on that one.

Ironman was good for the first 2/3... lacked imagination for the last 3rd. I think these directors tend to forget.... we want more of the comic book action brought to the screen... well I do anyways...

The end lacked any imagination... two ironmen duking it out. Weak.

It seems "The Incredible Hulk" falls into the same unimagination... the Hulk vs. another Hulk creation...

I think I liked the TV show more with the reporter chasing David Banner around the US.

I hope TDK is lights out... otherwise we have a string of so-so action movies.

The wife and I really liked Speed Racer. Definitely not something to see if you want a normal run of the mill movie, or anything too serious. Thought it was a lot of fun and continually got better as it went along.

To me, there hasn't been a real "miss" yet this movie season. It's 4/4 with Indy being the closest to failing because of the utter ridiculousness (not just absurd, but absurdly STUPID) of the 2nd half from the monkey scene onward, before that it was pure Indy goodness. I even liked Prince Caspian, and I borderline hated the first Narnia.

My only regret with Speed Racer was that I didn't leave sooner. 4 minutes into it I already thought it sucked and a half hour into it I told my wife and she agreed. I finally left and 5 minutes later my wife and kids did too. None of us liked it.

I thought it was OK. I sat through it with my youngest son and never looked at my watch -- a big sign for me that I think what I'm watching sucks. I didn't review it, but if I did, I'd have given it a C+/B-. My reviewer loved it and she expected to hate it going in and rip it to shreads. Here's her review:

The only saving grace for the television series was Bill Bixby, who, bless his soul, was a very talented, but underrated actor, imo. The entire premise of the show was based on The Fugitive. Cut out David Janssen and insert Bill Bixby. Remove Barry Morse and slide in Jack Colvin. Shazam! A total mockery of the comic and a cheap knockoff of the original classic series it was based upon.

Add action scenes such as The Hulk literally straining to lift the back end of a car and it's almost blasphemy what they did to the character. The Hulk is one of the most physically powerful creatures invented in any comic book universe and they downgraded him to a road rage circus strongman!

My apologies for the rant. If not for Bixby, I would have stroked one time too many watching the series. I kept hoping that the series' creators would finally 'get it' and let the character loose, but it never happened. Sad. Ang Lee tried. He got the character right, but his presentation of the story during the movie was too contorted and sloppy. Here's hoping that Ed Norton and company gets it right. ~fingers crossed~

^ Man, I loved that show as a kid! But I agree with DE's assessment. And why in the hell was Banner's name "David" on the show and he's "Bruce" in the comics?

I hear ya... and thanks for that info....

BUT... my point is.... as a kid watching it... the creators/directors were successful in engaging the audience(it doenst matter what we think now) its the fact that THEN it worked and NOW(todays version) are not IMO

Have you been reading my mind? If you only knew how many times I questioned that very same thing...

I can see that about the series. Even back in the late 70's, network television was a cutthroat business. The network and creators weren't sure that they could capture an audience with a pure comic book theme back then. Instead, they went with The Fugitive clone. From what I can remember, the show was a hit amongst fans of the '60's show it was copied from, so I guess I can't really fault them for going the safe route.

It's just that, as a teenager who had bought tons of Marvel titles well-before the show premiered, I knew a great deal more about the central character than the show's target audience. During high school, I would get into conversations with my classmates about an episode. Folks would ask me things like, "Did you see what The Hulk did with that tractor? He's super strong!" One of my first questions would be, "Have you ever read the book?". Usually, the answer was no and why did I read comic books anyway? :) Watching the show was maddening sometimes, to say the least.:
