A hat tip to Bob Hayes and Jday. Two guys that write the best stream of consciousness threads here. I am going to do a shortened version on a change in philosophy I am undergoing. This is going to be hard but perhaps a cathartic moment for me.

I am beginning to see the good in Jerry outweighing the bad in Jerry.

Like an aircraft carrier turning I am beginning to come around on him. As a GM he is a disaster. His record speaks for itself. No other GM outside of Cincinnati would have survived the last 20 years of mediocrity. As an Owner / GM he is also a disaster. Brand is number one with Jerry not Football. The conflict between owner and GM being one in the same has stained the culture in Dallas. That’s the bad.

Jerry is a great business man. Great. He is also an incredibly loyal guy. Ex players, almost to a man, love the guy. He welcomes them with open arms. He also seems to be very gracious offering his business advice. A recent example was Jerry investing in Jaylon Smith’s sun glasses company. I bet he is a great dad to his kids. Has given them great jobs and spends a ton of time with his family. Bet his grandkids think he is the coolest guy in the world. He is arguably one of the top 3 most important owners in the game. That means something considering those circles. Most of all I bet Jerry is a blast to hang around with. Funny man. Millions of stories. Likes a beer or two. I would pay a lot of money to drink some beers with him.

Will McClay’s influence has really helped the roster. I trust that guy and so does Jerry which is huge. Jerry’s loyalty to Garrett is a mistake but it is nice for Jason Garrett.

I haven’t come full circle on Jerry yet but it is getting close.

Has anyone’s opinion changed on him over the past couple years?

Mine has. Used to hate him. Brash, egotistical, self-centered, you name it. He still is. But he is now smart enough to know that he doesn't know everything. Now, he has football people doing the football stuff. Sure, he still pokes his head in there once in a while, but he lets the football people make the football decisions. I now find his southern metaphors amusing whereas I have hated them in the past. The guy really wants to win. That is evident. He got spoiled by three quick Super Bowls and it has taken him this long to do a self-assessment and realize that if he wants to win another one, he's gonna have to have a different role. I wanna see him get that next Super Bowl now. Before, I was almost rooting against the Boys because I didn't want to see him win another one. Go Cowboys!!

I’ve always been a jerry supporter and haven’t agreed with you on that but takes a big person to admit that they are starting to see some positive where they only saw negative before.

Kudos to you whyjerry

Yeah, it’s sad how some can’t get past the “Jerry Hate”. I’m sure glad I have friends that don’t judge me by my past. People make mistakes. The smart ones learn from them.

No one can deny the Cowboys are in better shape than they have been in quite some time. Say want you want ab the Jerry’s decisions of the past.. our Salary Cap is in good shape, the talent level is top notch, our draft pick success is one the best in the league, and this is all in compassing of decisions made collectively by the Jones family. Which btw.. is Jerry’s doing.

Whether folks like it or not.. the Dallas Cowboys are the most valued team in the world... all this without winning a SB in two decades. The contributions he’s made to the NFL and local communities is what made him a HOF GM/owner. And make no mistake ab it.. Jerry yerns for a SB as much as we do.

I like everything about jerry except jerry the general manager. we're far better off with Stephen running the football side of things. and fortunately, based on Stephen's influence of late, jerry seems to be content with letting Stephen run things while jerry gets the cameras and microphones.

Why would it change? He's the same guy he's always been. Only difference is we've hit on our draft picks the last few years.

Jerry is very fortunate that the former coach of his AFL team turned out to be a great drafter.

if he fired his favorite non-son son and actually made an effort to hire the best coach he could find instead of a trusted puppet, I might think about changing.

This Jason Garrett experiment has gone on far longer then it should have and we’ve wasted some talented teams and careers because of him.

That is on Jerry.

I applaud him for McClay but having a head coach that doesn’t hurt his ego has offset any of the other positive things he has done with our roster.

please tell me 3 or 4 specific things Jerry has done to increase the visibility of the Cowboys? Does he own Fox Sports? Because Cowherd, Firt things First, and Skip talk about the Cowboys at the beginning, middle and end of their shows.

Does he own ESPN? Because Stepehn A Smith traveled to go live with his show for the Cowboys opener. The Cowboys had the America's Team label long before Jerry came along for a reason. The popularity of the Cowboys is a generational thing. I have 4 daughters...... all Cowboys fans. Wife, Cowboys fan, that is something that just keeps growing,... no matter what Jerry does. The Cowboys are just a meat grinder, gringin everything in their path. Jerry has been great for the NFL as much or more than the Cowboys..... I could own the Cowboys and not be able to screw up the brand.

On to your question. I have always loved Jerry because the man puts the Cowboys first and always had. He loves his team, players, stadium, fans, nfl... just loves eevryting about it. As a result, he will spare no cost to win..... and hes damn funny. Who else would do that press conference with Zeke and bring out a Zeke Who T-shirt? That will be remembered for a long time.

And like others, I would do anything to spend a day with jerry on the season opener. Could you imagine.... just the entire day with Jerry.... breakfast, lunch, game, and drinks after.

Would be AWESOME.

and as great as Andy Reid is and the fact hes coached for much longer than JG, he still has zero rings.

What’s your point? That a great coach and a mediocre at best coach have no rings?

thanks for making my point ..... great and mediocre is so subjective. Reid has no rings, yet you call him "Great." Gruden has a ring, and his career win% certainly isnt great.... yet he was brought back because he was considered "Great."

Gruden is overrated.. People love the personality but Xs and Os along with player evaluation is pretty terrible.

Brian Billick has a ring but football common sense tells me Andy Reid is better then Billick.

Reid is great. He doesn’t have a ring but it’s clear he can coach at the highest level.

I don’t think it’s subjective to anyone that Andy Reid is a great coach. Just people that want to ignore the obvious and be a hater.
