Along with many others here, my harsh opinions of Jerry have softened considerably. This is largely because he has softened his "jocks and socks" policy of micro-managing everything related to the Cowboys. He has allowed Stephen much more responsibility in matters of contract management. He's also stepped back and is allowing Will McClay to exercise great control of player evaluation and procurement.
Jerry's long retention of Garrett, as he has done, isn't to his credit. JG simply leans too far in the category of weak than horrible. Altogether too often, he'll play the game to avoid losing, as opposed to winning. This seems especially so in the last half, when an aggressive approach is needed. We'll see what occurs this year, when the level of difficulty demands good coaching and Jerry ultimately might be faced with a crucial decision.
