Coach Joe D. gets my vote as our next Head Coach. Special teams has played better than it has in years minus a couple of boneheaded fumbles by our returners.

:hammer:I'd rather our next HC be someone from within, someone relatively young, and someone already making an impact for us

that's coach Joe D

- The Crayton situation shows EXACTLY why there needs to be more consequences for poor play and good play in the organization. He has a rough game, shoots off his mouth too much, and gets benched. Now he has to work hard to get back into the coaching staff's good graces and comes back the very next game with a punt return TD.

IMO, the punt return is much more about the other 10 guys on the field doing their job than it was any inspired performance by Patrick Crayton.

It felt good for things to go right for Crayton. But I think there's a disconnect in putting the punt return and his benching together.

What happens if he has another lousy December and beyond? Do you still want to keep going the same path?

For now, that's my stance. Prove me wrong and I'll gladly admit I was wrong. Great organizations always look for ways to improve every possible position and as 'mind boggingly dumb' as it may seem, Mr. Landry felt that way as well.

YAKUZA

Yakuza, I really respect your football acumen, and I have always enjoyed reading your "Meaningless thoughts" after the game.

I have to say however, I think you are letting your Romo bias cloud your otherwise what I considered objective observations after games. Would you have made a comment about Romo if he had stunk it up, even if you were only writing on things that were obvious?

I was pretty shocked when you announced you had given up on Romo. Your signature :

. Man, I just do not get it. In light of what the cowboys have rolled out at quarterback since Aikman left, I just do not get how anyone cannot love Tony Romo. Plus, we all know that Tony Romo is not going anywhere, no matter what he and this team does in December.

I just don't get the hate for Romo. I also think he is going to make alot of his detractors look foolish when all is said and done.

Yup, great block by Newman on that return. Otherwise, he goes nowhere.

There's no magical fairy dust that gets sprinkled in September through November. There's no curse or anything like that. If Romo can perform well in October, he can perform well in December. He just hasn't done so for his first three years. The idea that you would "look elsewhere" when you have the 3rd highest rated QB of all time is so mind bogglingly dumb I can't explain to myself why such intelligent posters seem to think that's really an option.

I'm glad for Romo, played a terrific game yesterday. I thought the scramble and TD pass to Crayton showed some real growth in him as a QB. I don't think it was his fault that he almost got sacked, but it showed to me that he understood the situation that he HAD to at least get rid of the ball so the team would be at no worse than a short FG before the half. He also seems to be willing to eat sacks and keep ahold of the ball when the situation calls for it. Again, nice growth.

YAKUZA

Nice growth my rear.

That is Romo from day 1. That is what makes Romo extra special. That is why Romo is what he is.

A great QB who can do unreal things but with those unreal things you have to take the good with the bad. Now, what would show growth, would be that there was no bad.

But, unlike others, I like that Romo, good and bad cause that is the Romo that makes watching the game fun. Like he said in the PC "safe is dead too" sometimes. The team needs him playing like that, period.

Like Irvin said yesterday, that was Romo, having fun playing the game yesterday!

When was the last time (if ever) a special teams coach was promoted to head coach?

I'm really curious....anyone know?

Agreed. You could have driven a semi through that initial hole that Newman opened, and there was never anyone close to him after he broke through first wave of defenders. Its not like he juked half the other team.

On the TD pass they showed Crayton isolated and you could see him stop on his route too - not that I can really blame him seeing Romo swarmed by red jersey's. But its not like he did some fanatical hard working play to get open, he just realized Romo escaped a second before the CB did and got a step pf separation.

He only had 1 other catch on the day for 5 yards.

Maybe he worked harder this week or maybe he didn't, but I don't think the results are necessarily a direct result of his benching. Just worked out that way.

That went over my head as well. Good write up, though.

One quibble -- going 10-6 will almost surely get you in the playoffs. Very few 10-6 teams miss the playoffs. You've got a better chance of getting in at 9-7 than you do of missing with 10-6. Even last year in a very competitive conference, Philadelphia got in at 9-6-1. But it's a quibble--I'm fine with 10 wins as the marker.
5-4 the rest of the way would get us to 10-6 and theoretically in. I don't see how this team won't do that.

BUT, I would consider that limping into the playoffs like we did in 07...Id much rather see us finish a hot 12-4 or even 11-5

When Romo is on, like yesterday, he's as good as anybody and much better than most.

His issue is consistency.

This year he's played six games and was off in two of them.

If in one out of every three games, Romo has a clunker, he's not going to be good enough, even if he's better than Johnny Unitas in the other 66% of his games.

You are arguing with someone who freely admits Romo is done as a QB.

My question is: why bother arguing?

Rich, Rich, Rich.

Your posts have a lot of credibility with me.

But the anti-Romo stuff is just mind-boggling to me.

To me it's Ware & Romo-- neck & neck for the best player on this team.

I think Witten is in the mix too.

And I think Ratliff isn't that far behind, either.

Good point.

I put Witten and Ratliff just down a notch from Ware & Romo, but the argument could certainly be made for one or both being up with Ware & Romo.

But the bottom line is that I don't see how this team could realistically get more production out of the QB position than it's getting with Romo... I just don't see it.

It wasn't that long ago I railed against Drew Bledsoe. I knew he was a mediocre QB. The stats showed it. But Romo? Now the 3rd highest rated QB-- Ever?

Not only that - the stat line is great, but where do you put that amazing death-defying scramble out of two sacks and the toss to the end zone to Crayton? That's more than a TD, that's football mojo. Romo looked SO comfortable yesterday, the first time in a LONG time that I watched him and it seemed he felt in his comfort zone. Great thing to see.

The nice thing is that he was comfortable against a good team, which SHOULD (but won't) silence the critics here.

I also think that he works better with fast than quick WR's (Owens and now Austin) and is at his best when he can step up into the pocket rather than stand deep in back of the pocket.

I don't want to be negative in this post because there's little to be negative about yesterday's performance, but Romo still has to prove to me that he can get it done come December or we should look elsewhere for viable options. If he does do well this December, then I have the right to change my mind. I also need to admit when I'm wrong. But it's still a wait and see for right now.

Also, Mr. Blue Suit = Ed Werder, mainly because his wardrobe consists of only blue suits. He shot off his mouth that Miles wasn't playing the right starting WR position for him and Miles 'only' had 171 yards receiving yesterday. But, Mr. Blue Suit had a 'source' telling him this, so that's okay. I guess it's okay that his sources continue to be inaccurate. I understand the fact that reporters need to keep sources anonymous, but when your sources are continually wrong, then I think you should be held accountable and I would start wondering if he has sources to begin with.

YAKUZA

Spot on! Romo played great but I wanna see this in December and January.I think its a monkey on his back and hopefully he can remove it.
