When was the last time (if ever) a special teams coach was promoted to head coach?

I'm really curious....anyone know?

Mike Ditka and John Harbaugh come to mind.

Good point.

I put Witten and Ratliff just down a notch from Ware & Romo, but the argument could certainly be made for one or both being up with Ware & Romo.

I think Ratliff is a far better NT than Romo is a QB and it's not even close. Ratliff is quite amazing to watch and he's dominated each and every center he's faced this season. Been awhile since I can remember Ratliff not playing really well, much less poorly. Not trying to knock Romo in this particular post, but Ratliff rarely performs mediocre much less perform poorly. Tough to be better than that.

Ugh, Troy...just admit it when you're wrong. Marty Booker caught the ball, turned around, took THREE steps and then got clocked on a clean-as-a-sheet tackle by Mike Jenkins. That's not a hit on a 'defenseless player.'

He can't and he never could. That's why i personaly never liked him.

I always have had problems with people who somehow seem to think alot of themselfs.

When Romo is on, like yesterday, he's as good as anybody and much better than most.

His issue is consistency.

This year he's played six games and was off in two of them.

If in one out of every three games, Romo has a clunker, he's not going to be good enough, even if he's better than Johnny Unitas in the other 66% of his games.

I wonder if Giants fans said the same thing last night? Or Mannings first 45 or so games.

This has more to do with the fact that a NT performing poorly is a heckuva lot less noticeable than a QB performing poorly. If Ratliff gets pushed back 5 yards it's not quite as noticeable as when Romo throws an errant pass.

Coach Joe D. gets my vote as our next Head Coach. Special teams has played better than it has in years minus a couple of boneheaded fumbles by our returners.
I love what Coach D has done, but I think I would prefer he stay as ST coach. ST coach is much different than head coach, and who knows if he could succeed?

Nice growth my rear.

That is Romo from day 1. That is what makes Romo extra special. That is why Romo is what he is.

A great QB who can do unreal things but with those unreal things you have to take the good with the bad. Now, what would show growth, would be that there was no bad.

But, unlike others, I like that Romo, good and bad cause that is the Romo that makes watching the game fun. Like he said in the PC "safe is dead too" sometimes. The team needs him playing like that, period.

Like Irvin said yesterday, that was Romo, having fun playing the game yesterday!
I actually did see growth from Romo yesterday. He took sacks or took off running instead of making stupid passes.

He looked much more refined. He still did what makes him special, but eliminated his lapses in judgment. I guess we'll just have to see if it's permanent, or a one-time deal, but he and the whole offense looked like they played with a confidence they haven't played with all year.

Terence Newman jacked Roddy White up. He better check his teeth. The crowd loved it. White finished with 6-50-1, and that is a loss for Atlanta.

Mike Jenkins was jacking people up and defending passes and getting pick and a near fumble recovery for a TD.

Orlando had a pick and was hitting good and made two real nice plays.

While I was out yesterday enjoying the game, I could see a couple of fans from other teams looking at the screen and wondering what the heck was up with that Cowboys coach's neck when Joe D was seen celebrating on the sideline. After I explained the whole practice facility episode to them they were like "oh he's that guy" and game him much respect for just being on the field. I felt pretty good about that. Joe D is a feel good story for sure. I'm a huge fan of that particular coach.

5-4 the rest of the way would get us to 10-6 and theoretically in. I don't see how this team won't do that.

BUT, I would consider that limping into the playoffs like we did in 07...Id much rather see us finish a hot 12-4 or even 11-5

Actually, 6-4 the rest of the way gets us to 10-6.

From my game charting, Ratliff rarely gets pushed back much and constantly beats his blocker one-on-one. You have arguably the best NT in the game right now. I don't think anybody would claim Romo is arguably the best QB in the game right now.

Thanks....at least it's been done before.

I never considered that possibility, but Joe should at least get an interview by Jerry in the future. As long as he puts together a good staff under him, I think Joe would make a really good head coach IMO.

Certainly Joe's been in the league long enough to put a good staff together.

I really can't put my finger on it, but Romo has done things I've asked him to do so far, mainly taking care of the ball (fumble wise) and for the most part, he has taken the sack and not tried to force too many balls ending in Interceptions.

And for some reason, I don't know how he's able to post MONSTER numbers. It seems like he throws it to the guy who has the best chance to score, it's just interesting to me.

I can't see how he consistantly throws for 300+ yards, I just don't get it. The guy has something special, just stay humble and prevent the horrible plays and you'll be back to being my favorite player again.

Well, even if it had not been done before, I wouldn't view it as a hurdle for Joe D. After all, the Cowboys didn't become America's Team by being a franchise that copies others. This is a franchise that has a history of bucking trends.

Joe D deserves a shot IMO. Just the fact that the guy is on the field is an amazement to me. Also, don't underestimate the fact that it appears JJ listens to him despite only having 6 games under his belt. The Rossum signing, and demotion of Crayton on ST was a Joe D move (though Rossum got hurt right away, and Crayton got his job back, for now).

That is a move that this franchise would have never made based on recent history with other ST coaches. JJ clearly listens to Joe D.
