Well, I've digested what I could from the Combine. I guess that means taking another look at a Mock. I'm going to change this one up quite a bit. Even going to speculate on a trade out of round 1 at the 28 spot. As always I try and provide my previous Mocks for comparison.

Version 1.0
Version 2.0
Version 3.0

Also as always, your comments, good and bad are welcome. Okay, let's talk Draft.

1a. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, CB, Tennessee State, 6'1", 184. Being from a small college could drop him down a bit, but his workouts this week opened eyes. Count on that. For good reason, this kid can flat out play. I'm giving up my insistence on Antoine Cason and believe me that isn't easy. I still think he's the most complete CB in this Draft.

1b. I'm projecting that the Atlanta Falcons will want to get back into the 1st round to take a QB and will trade us their 2nd round pick and their 4th round pick for Pick #28.

2a. Chris Johnson, RB, East Carolina, 5'11", 195. McFadden, Mendenhall, & Stewart are the 1st round backs, leaving us to grab this speed demon at the top of the 2nd round.

2b. Heath Benedict, OG, Newberry, 6'5", 321. We can't run the risk of no grabbing this guy. and he is not going to last to the end of round 3. He is big, nasty, and if we lose Flozell to Free Agency and BIGG goes to LT he probably is an immediate starter. Quite possibly my favorite sleeper of the last 5 years.

3. Jordy Nelson, WR, Kansas State, 6'3", 215. This is the kind of player that can fly under the radar for all the wrong reasons. The kind that when you add them to your team make a huge difference. He is a chains mover and has absolutely great hands.

4a. Owen Schmitt, FB, West Virginia, 6'2" 247. Come on, you knew I was not going to give up on my favorite player in this draft. If we land Randy Moss in Free Agency we may never run the ball at all, but I am proceeding on the belief that we will.

4b. Justin King, CB, Penn State, 6'1", 186.
You can never have enough depth at CB and for some reason Justin has fallen to the 4th and 5th rounds. Good value at this point.

5. Curtis Johnson, OLB, Clark Atlanta, 6'3", 239. I really love this kid. He has a non stop motor and plays football with passion and a bit of anger. He is great depth and good value at this point.

6. Colt Brennan, QB, Hawaii, 6'2", 185. I think he's going to drop. He's definitely a gamble because he played in an unconventional offense and does not have the standard QB check marks. However, he's worth the gamble and could be groomed to be a good backup. Besides with a name like Colt where else can he go?

7. Spencer Larsen, ILB, Arizona, 6'2", 243.
Why have I dropped him this far? He ran a 4.9 in the 40. I still think he is a bigger version of Zach Thomas and will always be around the ball and he will make his mark on Special Teams.

Well, there you go. I brought back a player I had previously and kept a couple of my favorites but I changed this version up a lot more than previous versions. Have fun.

Dude...I'm on board with this mock.
You first 2 players taken for us are exactly my favorite players in this draft.
And they fill needs for us.

This draft is so deep at CB and RB. Good year to need these positions.

I don't know Hos, I'm not too into mock's where trades are assumed. Up to doing one without the trade?

I like the draft actually, just the trade bugs me.

I actually think the trade is a given. The only thing that would be different is Johnson at 28, and no Justin King.

I don't mind this draft, not wild about it. I would rather have Paul Smith of Tulsa in the 6th or 7th round. I would also like to see another WR drafted, but think we will sign one in FA.

What makes you think that, why would they work the trade with us in particular, what QB would they be taking late in the 1st?

Cap room. We still need to sign several key players. A 2nd first rounder is a luxury.

I also hate when trades are figured into guys mocks. I think ATL would be just fine waiting at their pick, as there should be a pretty solid QB there. As far as your draft goes, it's not bad. Like your top 2 guys, don't know much about Benedict but I like going at that position. I'd rather go a different direction at WR, but I don't know if what's available in the 3rd will be much better. That's why I'm of the opinion we should grab one of Sweed/Thomas/Caldwell in the 1st. At first I wasn't excited about the WR class, but it's really grown on me. There's some fantastic prospects available, but I think you're going to have to use a 1st or a 2nd to get one of the real difference makers. I know I'm in the minority, but I don't want Owen Schmidtt at all. I just don't think he'll be the difference maker he was in college at the next level, and I don't like the idea of using an early pick on a FB. Nice work though, I'm hoping to getting around to making a mock of my own when I get the time.

hey Hos....got another CB to replace King? Perhaps a Chevis Jackson.....or something....I do not like King. I saw him in the Alamo Bowl and wasn't impressed.

Forgot to mention him, but I actually am pretty fond of King. He's still really raw but has great talent. I think his development was hurt a bit by Penn St. putting him at WR his freshman year. I think he can be a good one if you let him develop for a while. I'd still want to take a CB earlier on than him, but he would be an excellent 2nd CB taken.

I like this draft a lot especially with DRC. I just hope he lasts that long. He is turning some heads. I like the King pick. I think he can learn a year and then could be something. Well done.

Switch out Ray Rice for Chris Johnson and I'm 110% on board.

Edit: And didn't we give up a the #36, our 3rd and our 4th to get back to #26 to get Spencer? If so, don't you think we could get more out of Atlanta?

I don't think DRC will be there at #22. I hope he is, but I think he'll go top 15.

Love this pick, but after his 40 time, I think he'll be gone unfortunately!

Don't like him this early!

He is big, nasty, and if we lose Flozell to Free Agency and BIGG goes to LT he probably is an immediate starter. Quite possibly my favorite sleeper of the last 5 years.

Way too early for him IMO!

3. Jordy Nelson, WR, Kansas State, 6'3", 215. This is the kind of player that can fly under the radar for all the wrong reasons. The kind that when you add them to your team make a huge difference. He is a chains mover and has absolutely great hands.

LOVE NELSON in round 3, don't think he's still on the board at this point though!

4a. Owen Schmitt, FB, West Virginia, 6'2" 247. Come on, you knew I was not going to give up on my favorite player in this draft. If we land Randy Moss in Free Agency we may never run the ball at all, but I am proceeding on the belief that we will.

We are a PASS 1st team, I don't think we need him!

4b. Justin King, CB, Penn State, 6'1", 186.
You can never have enough depth at CB and for some reason Justin has fallen to the 4th and 5th rounds. Good value at this point.

He ran the 2nd fasted 40 time at the combines for C.B.'s, we'd be LUCKY as hitting lotto if we could get him with our 3rd rounder, NO WAY he's still there end of round 4, guys who can run like him with his athleticism and insane speed don't last long, certainly not the 4th round, if he's there with our 3rd round pick we'd jump all over him, but i don't even think he's gonna make it out of round 2, a late 2nd is my guess.

5. Curtis Johnson, OLB, Clark Atlanta, 6'3", 239. I really love this kid. He has a non stop motor and plays football with passion and a bit of anger. He is great depth and good value at this point.

I guess we could use another O.L.V., don't know much about him since I didnt' research O.L.b.'s too much if at all since it's not a high need factor, but don't mind the pick this late, if you like him, I'll take him.

6. Colt Brennan, QB, Hawaii, 6'2", 185. I think he's going to drop. He's definitely a gamble because he played in an unconventional offense and does not have the standard QB check marks. However, he's worth the gamble and could be groomed to be a good backup.

I don't think he lasts this late at all, I think he goes a lot higher!

Besides with a name like Colt where else can he go?

Colts? :lmao2:

Not bad, I just see too many reaches in some rounds and too many players who will be long gone the time we pick, but the draft is a crap shoot and you never know, one thing is I really like Justin King a LOT and actually want to use our 2nd rounder on him if he lasts, if not DEFINATELY jump on him in round 3, but he ran a 4.31 and is athletic, he won't last past round 2 IMO, I do like similar picks though, I love DRC, I love Benedict but only later on, and I like King, and I like Colt, just think he's gone by that time also!

In the third round, what do you think about Earl Bennett, WR, Vandy instead of Nelson?

Way, way too many projects in this bunch.

DRC - Still raw, mainly due to competition. Love the pick, but he still has a bit to go.

Chris Johnson - Raw defines this guy. Speed demon, but has shown what else? Will need to put on weight and develop a sense of toughness to even think about playing RB. He may get away with bouncing runs outside and out running competition in college, but that will not work here. Plus, with an influx of good RB's going ahead of him, he will likely drop. The one position that ALWAYS drops on draft day are the RB's.

Heath Benedict - Again, another unproven that will have to be a project due to level of competition.

Justin King - Type in Toast on Google Images, you'll find a picture of Justin. Athletic ability is off the charts, but has little clue how to actually play CB.

Colt Breenan - Do not get this one at all. During Senior Bowl week, even Mike Martz let it slip when he was mic'd up about Colt's inability to throw even a 40 yard pass. Colt is almost assuredly going to end up as a WCO quarterback. His precision may be able to help him there, as long as he gets his arm angle up a bit without losing his accuracy.

However, I am in favor of trading our lower 1st to the Falcons. That move I did like. :p:

C'mon Hos, you're better than this.
