Sorry, in that case I see Rashad Johnson being in the lower 1st to upper 2nd round. Safeties are a fickle thing though and I think there is a possibility that he could be had with our 2nd round pick. Herman has already been questioned in this thread, so when you said Johnson he is the first one that popped in my head.

As far as the BC NT's go, they've had a pretty good game. I didn't see Brace in the first half, but in the 2nd half he has been steady. He has been in the backfield several times and made a few big plays. For the most part he is just demanding double teams and clogging up the line. He did make a Cowboys-esque whiff on tackle in the backfield, though.

thanks for the update, I like Patrick Chung better then Johnson, who would you draft with our top pick if we picked a safety with our 2nd rounder, Johnson or Chung?

I watched more of Chung last year than I did this year, but Chung is more of a SS. He looked good in run support and he had pretty good closing speed from what I remember, but his hips are pretty stiff and he has a hard time turning and running or sticking with a back or receiver in coverage.

Johnson is more of a FS and I would go with him. Johnson is the centerfield, ball-hawking type player we need. He's not afraid to lay the wood, though that really isn't his game. He is effective against the run though, and he is capable of shedding a block on the outside and coming up to make a play.

Chung can play both S.s. and F.S., and I think is just as good against the run as he is agianst the pass, Johnson is the bettr ball hawk, my only concern,

Chung 6' 210 pounds
Johnson 6' 185 pounds

Don't know if Johnson's size will hold up well in the NFL as much as Chung.

Ken Hamlin can play both positions too, but I'd rather he be at SS. Johnson plays bigger than he is and I don't think his size should be a concern. He's not an in-the-box type safety, but he is also not afraid to come up against the run. From watching Johnson tonight this is what I saw:

He is very smooth in coverage, his backpedal is good and he looks like a CB out there. I don't think I saw anybody get behind him. Even when the CBs got beat, he was usually right there to make the stop. I thought he did a good job of reading plays which is key against a team like Florida. He didn't bite on the fakes, but he was right up at the line on the options. In the open field he was solid tackling, but not spectacular. A few times he tried to make big hits, but the ball carrier bounced right off of him. At the goal line he was very physical against the run and played well in the pass as well. He was right there leading the charge against the run, and in coverage he was not targeted but I saw him get a few good jams in and he remained tight in coverage.

Troy Nolan just picked off a pass and had a nice return, but then he fumbled the ball and gave it back to Arizona.

If a COLLEGE ball carrier is bouncing off of him, I'd hate to see what an NFL guy would do to him with his size, it just scares me a little to hold up is all..

To be fair, one of the people he bounced off of was Tim Tebow and I've seen plenty of people bounce off of him. The other player that bounced off of him was a RB, and the reason he bounced off was because Johnson didn't wrap up. Instead he led with his shoulder, and the RB went backwards and was then gang tackled. I don't know why you would think his size leads to durability concerns, he's 6'0" and 190lbs which is pretty good. He's been playing in the very physical SEC for 4 years, and the most significant injury was a sprained ankle that cost him 2 games in 2006.

Everywhere I read he wasn't 190, he is listed everywhere as 185, and for 6', that's a very slim build for an NFL safety to have to hold up IMO, I'm not saying he can't, I'm just saying I'd rather go with Chung over him because Chung has better size and the talent level is pretty equal all aartoudn, Chung the better tackle,r Johnson the btter cover guy, but talent wise, they are pretty equal and should get drafted about the same time, and I'd be concerned about 185 pounds when he gets to the NFL level is all.

It's still college, and the NFL he'll be facing bigger and stronger guys on a weekly basis, and I just think 6' 185 is a little too undersized for my taste is all, I wouldn't be too disappointed if we took him since he is a talent, I just think his size COULD be a problem in the nfl is all.

Bob Sanders is a small safety, but even though he's 5'-8, he weighs 206 pounds, and that's a lot of compact weight, 6'-0 185 is on the LIGHT SIDE for the NFL is all.
