My Observations From Being at the Game

Hos are you talking about Crayton that has a Cannon? If you are I remember reading about him having a great arm while looking up something in the archive a few weeks back.

And when I was at camp he was warming up with the Qb's and seemed to have nice spiral. I think we have finally found that late round gem at WR we have been looking for.

How did Copper look, I heard his name called a few times on the radio broadcast.

Thanks again Hos!
Yes, Crayton was playing catch while warming and he would throw the ball back. He has a good arm.

Copper had a really good catch in the 4th. Quincy Morgan impressed me too.

Our top 5 WRs really have some talent to offer this team. IMO, Crayton was the most impressive of all of them because he simply goes 100 MPH on every play.

While at camp, Cali and his son were throwing the ball around and Cali, said "Just call me newspaper because I cover everbody." It dawned on them that it would be a great nickname for Newman.

He told Newman about it, and he loved the idea.
Oops, wish I had seen this before explaining it too.

Man, we got to do that again.

Wow. Thank you very much. Very nice of you to say that.

I do agree with Coco2, hard to beleive you were football player in college, not sure if you would say sorry to hit you bro, if you hit someone on football field :p:

Anyway, I do think you are way too niece than need be sometimes :D

Thanks for the great player evaluation. Unable to watch the telecast, I had to rely heavily on what I read on this board, which was still very informative.

Glad you got a chance to watch first-hand and provide a great summary. After reading your post, it appears all is not lost. So after last night, who stood out most on offense and defense?

I'm starting to get concerned with right tackle. If we can't lock that down, we're in deep doo-doo.
On defense I would have to say it was a toss up between Al Singelton and Bradie James as to who really was on their A Game. Glover is just a bull too.

If I am being honest though, I gotta give Newman the nod. If he plays like that all season, he will be an All Pro. Henry was impressive as well. Our secondary was great.

BTW, forgot to mention much about Canty. That is one tall drink of water. He has tree trunks for legs. You can tell when the game slows down for him he will give people fits.

On offense it was obvious that Witten is in a league by himself. He's just so fluid in every aspect of the game.

Tyson Thompson and Crayton would battle for 2nd, but Witten was by himself.

Great read, Hos. Excellent recaps from you and BlindZebra.

You know, I didn't think Romo had lack of zip as much as Henson has the cannon, but I guess seeing live you would notice it better.

Either way, I do think, Romo might be perfect fit for WCO. He might excel in it. Either way, from early and way premature evaluations, I would prefer him over Bledsoe though. Lets hope those are way too premature and Bledsoe proves me and several of us wrong.
I would take Bledsoe over Romo any day of the week even as bad as he looked. I'm really not joking. Romo has nowhere close to the velocity an NFL QB needs. I loved his accuracy, but I was simply not at all impressed with his arm. Perhaps he kept it shelved for some reason, but if he did then he did it in warmups too.

Thank you, TH, I could have taken the reality if our receivers not being able to separate if it were so, but you know from the living room, you just can't see an entire route, and often not even the start of it.

One more couch potato observation, other folks need to get your attention...
but TH there was one player on first team D absolutely wowed me.

O! Henry.

Geez, but was he ever around that ball...even in a d formation often ill suited to the offensive play.

That man's a player.
I already love this kid. He's nowhere near Newman as far as pure skills, but he plays every play hard. Not a doubt in my mind he is a much better tackler. He really punishes the WR when he wraps up. I loved the kid.

Hey Hos. Good post. After last night I have my faith back in Henson. I think he played good to. I know the Romo fans in here are hype about how he played and he did play good. But his lack of zip is a concern. At least he is accurate.

Henson made some throws that Romo never could make or never will. But then Henson has the arm to make throws very few QBs can make anyways. People will say Henson only played against 3rd team players but that is just lame. Here is why.

Even 3rd string players are much more at NFL speed then anything Henson will see in practice. Henson did better in the real thing then in practice. That is real good. Maybe now things slow down for Henson and he really takes off.

Henson also had 3rd stringers on his side to.

IMO is Romo had to play when Henson did Romo would not have moved the offense as good. He could have never made those throws Henson did.

Just search for banned's last few posts. ITs funny, he so quickly dismisses henson as ok and goes on and on about romo's moxie and how he was having fun out there...I think he is doing it on purpose to stir the ol' pot.

We'll see who's "stirring the pot" when the pecking order is officially announced ...

It's about perspective ...

Damn, coming from you that is Bad. Since I know you were not for Bledsoe either. when he was signed. Next time I go to the game ( which will be the triplets induction game), I got watch Romo closely if I get in time for warmups.

Now having said that, as bad as I think Bledsoe would be, he should be the starting QB this year, at least start of season. But if it gets to be like Vinny type performance, I hope BP makes the change at least this time around. I doubt he will bench Bledsoe that easily, but we shall see.

Hos, Romo didn't make any big throws to judge his velocity off of ... you were there ... I know ... but he didn't make any long passes ...

And I'm transparent ...

Hos,

I'm gonna give you 1 question. Its frankly much bigger than the preseason game you attended.

Can Parcells really get this team back to elite status?

His first year was impressive enough. 10-6 with admittedly some parts missing. Year 2 was a major step back. Easy to forgive if he can quickly regroup. The 2005 offseason looked like a bonanza with the draft and FA's but...

I know its utter foolishness to overreact to last nights game but despite the very good eye for talent and character that I think Parcells possesses I've recently read reports that even Parcells felt last years team did not compete. It seemed to suggest that they (gasp!) quit on him, at least in part. That is somewhat shocking to me. That discipline and effort piece is debated all the time but most would likely conclude that to be Bill's greatest strength - he gets the most from his players.

Couple that with the possibility that Parcells is too in love with some of his guys from the past and I am now amongst those who think its fair to at least ask whether Bill can get it done.

First preseason game aside, if we don't see VERY marked improvement from this team in 2005 and at least close the year as a team most experts (whoever they or we are) agree will be a force to be reckoned with in 2006, then I have to start wondering if there aren't some better options than BP. I won't give a record because that can be so deceiving based upon injuries and when things gel but undeniably significant progress must be evident in 2005 IMO.

Curious to hear your and other sane party's thoughts too.
Let me put it this way and give the answer to this question to someone who is so much more reliable than I am.

Per Brad Sham, whom I think is one of the great football minds as far as writers that there is. He said, "there is a Super Bowl feel about the way this team practices."

Now, I was not impressed last night. The team was flat as a whole and the play calling was unimaginative. I am saying this purely from the standpoint of someone who was in the stands not in the meetings. It looked to me like Parcells pulled back on purpose last night for much of the game.

In other words, I think he got just what he wanted. A lackluster game to be angry this week in TC about. I think they were too comfortable with how things were going. I think he was secretly quite pleased last night. I say this for one reason only. On the sidelines he was not a raving lunatic, he was a teacher. It was strange to see him that calm. I bet it didn't last in the Locker room, bus, and flight.

He made plenty of big throws in warmups Ben. Spin it any way you want to.

Yo Hostile....

Nice recap...thanks mucho.

Few questions...Did Ware look as confused in person as he did on the tube?

Did Burnett look as physically gifted as he appeared on TV? (I am psyched about the guy)

Did you notice any interaction between Parcells and Henson and if so, how would you classify their relationship from afar?

Did the Cardinal TD look like a busted play?

No, I came by my nickname honestly. I played very angry. Away from the field I enjoy being a nice guy. There are enough jerks in the world without my contribution.

In contrast with my previous observations ... Parcells was taking his time and being patient with Henson ...

When comparing Romo to Henson. Who would you rather have throw the ball into tight coverage if it has to be done. I will go with Henson every time. Henson - big cannon arm. Romo - average at best arm.

Well from what I saw on TV it was better than patient...in fact, after the last series, he said "Good job" to Henson...but I wanted to get a better sense of what the interaction was from someone who was there.
