Hostile said:Howdy folks. You guys will never know how much I missed the site the last 2 days as I went to the game.
Pictures coming later when I download them to a site.
Okay, let's start with the thing everyone always wants to talk about, quarterbacks.
MichaelWinicki and LaTunaNostra, I would just like to say until the two of you pointed it out I had no idea how obvous it is that Drew Bledsoe pats the football a lot before he throws it. He took 2 sacks yesterday and fumbled on one of them. Luckily we got it back. I acknowledge that he has a canon for an arm. There is no doubt about that at all. However, last night he looked awful. He was pushing the ball instead of throwing it. He had more time than either of the other 2 QBs and looked the worst of the 3 in some regards.
Okay, on to Tony Romo. He had a better completion % than Drew and moved the team, but I'm going to be honest, he lollypops every throw. There was almost no zip on any pass. I have tried to be supportive of him but I'm going to be honest, he will never be starter material. It just flat out will not happen. When standing next to the 2 Drews he is noticably shorter. The most glaring difference though is the velocity of the football. Quite frankly he had none last night. To his credit he made very smart throws. He was locked onto Witten (more about him later) and as a result he moved the team.
Okay, now is where you guys get to call me a Henson Apologist or whatever you want. With less time than either of the first 2 guys he was noticably better than they were in every aspect of the game. He took a sack late on the last drive that he had no chance to avoid. If not for that he played well enough to have done exactly what Parcells asked for, that was to come in late and win the game. Those who were worried about this kid can stop. He has some serious tools. He played better with less than either of the other two guys and yes, I will acknowledge he played against a lesser defense than they did. At least acknowledge this when bringing that up, Antrel Rolle and Lance Mitchell are going to be starters for the Cardinals this year at some point. He wasn't going against scrubs, these guys were good.
Okay, moving on to my perrenial biggest worry, pass rush. Once again, we had none. DeMarcus Ware got double teamed a lot. On Warner's TD pass he had a chance for a killer shot, but he pulled up to avoid the flag. If he gets a shot like that a step sooner he will anihilate someone. We did not blitz worth a crap and we gave them too much time to beat us. I was so ready to see pressure on the QB it was not funny. It just didn't happen.
I think we played more 4-3 than 3-4. Might be because of Fergy being out, but we definitely had both looks. Canty even played some DT. Glover and Ellis need not worry about their roles. They are going to play. Glover was brilliant as usual. Thomas "Pepper" Johnson is fun to watch folks. This kid plays with the throttle mashed. Ogbogu's arms are ripped and he literally rode McNown to the ground on 1 hit. I was impressed and I thought he was a longshot. Coleman is our best DE in the 3-4 right now. He was truly great. Carson is a square built son of a gun.
Nors, hate to shatter your illusions, but Al Singleton is one of our biggest LBs, not one of the smallest. He is huge and he is cut. Not only that but he made plays all over the field while he was in. JMO, but Ryan Fowler outplayed Shanle. Both played well, but Folwer was more impressive. I feel pretty good in saying Bradie James has arrived. I thought he was one of our better players last night. He made a great read on one play and nearly could have had a pick. If he had reacted a split second sooner he is going back the other way. A kid I like, Mike Goolsby, had a great read on one play. I was mad as heck that the big screen didn't replay it. That was football intelligence personified.
Kevin Burnett is huge. He is going to be a favorite of mine for a long time. This kid was born to play football. I can't wait until he is a starter.
RCB is solved. Anthony Henry was awesome. He is big and agressive and his techiniques were solid. Beriault has a future in the NFL. I love guys who play with that much heart. The reports of his being a solid tackler were dead on the money. Davis started at FS but did not do much.
Terrence Newman has a new nickname courtesy of CaliCowboy (more on him and others later). He is the Newspaper because he covered everybody. Newman is going to be great this year.
Roy Williams is already on form and looks huge. I feel bad for WRs and TEs this year. They are going to hurt. He is simply a heat seeking missile out there.
Okay, moving to offense, I want to start with Jason Witten. He is simply a pleasure to watch play. Apologies to my sister Princess, but if he continues as he is going right now, this kid will be the best TE in Cowboys history. His hands are just awesome.
Speaking of hands, this report is for CowboysFan02 who requested this from Chat. Patrick Crayton is for real. He snatches the ball out of the air with authority. His route running was crisp and you can't say enough about how hard he goes.
LTN, Terry Glenn didn't get much attention last night but he has the best hands on the team and that is saying something given who he is competing against. The ball just lands in his hands. Also wanted to let you know he looks as fast as ever.
My kid, Lousaka Polite made the team. Not only did he play great last night, but Dale told me something Parcells said about him off the record.
Julius Jones is cut. Oh my gosh did he work hard this off season. I expect 1600 yards from him. He can do it. Barber looked okay last night. Didn't see much of A-train. My gosh it is hard not to notice Tyson Thompson. scottsp specifically asked me for a report on him. scott, he explodes to the hole. He turns the corner as fast as anyone I have seen in years. Last night, he was by far the most impressive player.
Pittdawg, Rob had a rough night but he showed some heart. He's gotta lose that mohawk though. Your son is a mountain of a man. I liked most of what I saw last night. He bites on the 1st move too much. They will work with him on that.
Jacob Rogers got hurt again. Tucker is not a Tackle. Kurt Vollers is huge. You can't even imagine how big he is until you see him.
Speaking of huge, Larry Allen is all man. I wouldn't fight him unles he was unconscious. He looks great. Expect a top flight year.
Gurode started at Center and to be truthful played better than Al Johnson.
Peterman is fun to watch. He has a nasty streak. I am going to like him a lot.
Our kick and punt coverage teams were awful last night. I still hate kickers. McBriar was awesome though. There were way too many penalties. Parcells will be chewing this week.
Okay, now about the folks I met personally for the 1st time.
I'll start with Dale. He is every bit as impressive in person as he is in posts. There is not a doubt in the world that he is a genuine good guy. I did something really stupid when I went to pick him up at the team hotel. I left my camera in the car. I got to meet Roy Williams, Marcus Spears, and Jason Witten. Could have had pics too. Duh.
Dale and I went out to eat with AdButcher. Folks, I am big, AdButcher dwarfs me. It is a good thing he is a kind man because he could hurt people. Dude knows football. He, Dale, and I went out to dinner Friday night and the stories were awesome. Ad and I will do games together again. Book it.
I hope Dale tells one of them to the forum some day. Bang bang.
Our resident basketball referee Blindzebra attended the game with me and Adbutcher. We all had a ball. He recognizes stuff as fast as anyone you will meet. Great memory for our History too. Lots of fun. Ad had rented a Hummer H3. That's how we went to the game. Parked in spot #22. Blindzebra is good people. No doubt about it.
Met Sitting Bull and his son right before half time. His son is a great looking kid. Kind of shy. Genuine nice guy it was a pleasure to meet. Wish we could have rapped more.
CaliCowboy who has done reports from TC was one of group that we tailgated with. It was great to meet him and his wife and son. I will meet him again at TC next year. He sold me on needing to go.
AZCowboy and I are going to party together some more. He is an ASU guy. I'm a UA guy. We need to go to the game this year and give each other crap. He looks exactly like my best friend Rich, except with blonde hair. Had much fun getting to know him. He met Robert Newhouse last night and got to put on his Super Bowl ring. So I am jealous as hell right now.
CowboyGolfer is a soft spoken guy who has a son who is going to be huge. Kid is only 14 and already casts quite a shadow. Good people. I hope that he and I can play a round some time. I'm told I will need to bring my A game because he's that good.
Message boards are very much a brotherhood. We had a group that got together from "rival" boards and we all had a ball. It showed me more than ever that having hard feelings towards a fellow Cowboys fan over stuff on the Internet is just silly.
I'll answer specific questions. These were my observations. Place whatever emphasis on them that you wish.
I agree completely about your assessment of Romo. He's small and has a pop-gun arm, but a scrappy kid. The 'little engine that could' type. I noticed also that the 6'2" inch Warner even towered over him.
About Henson, I don't agree at all. I think it was Tyson Thompson that made him look good as he did, plus he was playing against guys who wont even make the Cardinals roster. He doesn't look natural. He did throw the ball away a couple of times, but that's kind of a no-brainer. Where was his elusiveness?
He obviously has superior physical tools to Romo, but going up against third teamers, I would expect more. I think people will see what I'm talking about next week when he's second string.
