My Random Thoughts vs The Giants

this had to be what Dungy meant by “blessing in disguise”. Yesterday we definitely were more balanced even before Dak’s injury. Now we absolutely have to be.

Just due to Dalton's inexperience with Dallas, we probably will see more Zeke and less passing, more pollard as well.

But Dalton's skill set is different than Dak's, more accurate, more experience overall, but less of a runner and less able to take pressure in the pocket.

So I don't look for like 25% less passing, different routes mostly....

Dalton is a better west coast QB and that is what Mike McCarthy wants to play. Also, having Dalton should force Dallas to stop being a silly pass first team (which IMHO is why they were losing) to a balanced offense which will stay on the field longer and thus give the defense more time off the field. Just my observations.
:hammer:

Can we stop with that phrase? It was cute the first couple of times we saw it, but now it belongs in the same phrase trash bin as "At the end of the day", "basically" and others.

Geez, tired of it...
About as much as I'm tired of the cowboys actually doing it.

will moore do that and give zeke a chance to run early in games and help the defense. i just hope we do not see the rams gameplan and be to conservative.

it's called complentaary football, you can't sit the ball out consistently with as bad defense.

The jaylon swipe dance after every play is so cringey
Maybe he needs that silly hand swipe to be alright. Either that or Nolan sat him down after that first series and said “Dude they’re throwing the screen to your side EVERY time”

Zeke ran 22 times in the Rams game, Dallas lost by 3.

Zeke ran 14 and 12 times in the Seattle and Cleveland games, lost by 7 and 11.

Zeke ran 19 times in the Giants game, a win.

Not saying run Zeke 25 times a game, at least not every game, but running Zeke 20 or more times a game is still a good game plan, MOST teams do better with a balanced attack, if you have a back like Zeke, who can wear down a defense, not using him 20 times a game is not the way to go....
i am trying not to complain i also believe that i just do not know if this oline can run the ball. i just have watched a few games with dalton and he is not capable of playing from behind he is a ball control qb and i just do not have faith this defense can not hold teams back to let this offense control the clock. i want this team to run the ball more.

The defense is still a problem, I don't care how angry they were all week. They cannot allow every team to score 35 points against them. The Giants are the worst offense they will face all year. The Cardinals have one of the best receivers in football. How many yards is he going to get on them? They can't seem to cover or stop anyone. Now we are going to ask Andy Dalton, behind a banged up offensive line, to put up 40 points so we can beat decent teams?

The defense needs an overhaul and that means it might take a couple of years of high draft picks to get it done. In this case, putting the patient into an induced coma so he can heal, may be the best strategy. Winning against the Giants may turn out to be bad for them in the long run. The must invest in the DL. They have to make the commitment to the DL that they made to the OL. Then again, with Tyron's annual injuries they may have to take the OT if they are picking in the top 5. What we are seeing in Dallas if the flaw in the Jones's philosophy on team building. You cannot build a team by the draft alone. It takes too long. The Cowboys have to start shelling out for better players than they have instead of paying players they drafted but are not producing.

If Zeke/Pollard can't make the running game go, teams will just blitz the crap out of Dalton, who's proven over the years he doesn't handle that well. Part of running the ball well is continuity on the o-line, not totally talent. Cowboys haven't been able to put a consistent line combination, even if they do figure that out it continuity doesn't happen overnight.

And you have to add in coaching, disguise the looks, etc. Not sure Moore knows how, or is willing, to do that.

Guess we'll see....

Am I the only one that would like to see MM shake his head "no" the next time Zeke taps his helmet to come out after a run?

Wow! Where did that come from??

:muttley:

Seriously, run Zeke more.

My late to the party random thoughts is this,(rewatched the game),

we continue to complain about the defense and for good reason, they've been bad, however if you take a real close look at whats been happening with the offense leading in TOs in the entire NFL i Believe, is this,

lets take the giants game i saw improvements however small they may be and we also complain we never lead but most of the offensive TOs and mistakes are happening early in games then we play from behind playing catch up

we led 3-0, defense yes gave up 7 we are down again...

However we drive right down and with a well balanced attack ive been screaming for go get a 7-3 lead...

so that 2 leads already early,

then here it comes PICK six bad off target high throw by dak and now we are down 14-10 this is where we got behind and would have pulled away and had comfortable lead all game
thin about what happened after

the defense gets us a sack fumble for a TD , then before the HALF THE DEFENSE STOPS THE GIANTS AND FORCES A 4TH AND 16 AD THE ST MAKES MISTAKE THEY KICK FG THAT 3 POINTS MORE NOT ON THE DEFENSE

we still lead at the half but they would have easily been two scored down and us cruising by now as they as winless team would have had no momentum and no feeling they could win..

then we start pulling away again Dak gets hurt, and Dalton has a snap issue which happens but it gives the giants yet another score and more hope..

its takes another crazy drive to overcome mistakes by the offense and ST more so then bad defense..i mean the defense makes the stop to get Dalton that last drive to make that happen..

thats 13 points(minimum) the defense was not responsible for but its not just the points its momentum and hope which changes pay calling and attitude by the opponent..

go look at all the game show they unfold, the most mistake free game we play on offense had poor coaching decsions in the Rams game easy FG passed up strange st calls etc and we lose on the road game 1 but only gave up 20 points to a Rams offense who scored a lot more against other teams..

same with ATL we saw that and won but no heroics needed if Sts and Offense didnt make the mistakes they made thats was like 17-20 points the defense is not responsible for..

seatle we could have won that game mistake free its a lot of pressure but once again offense and ST make mistakes that are costly not just points but in momentum and how the they calls plays..it added to more time on the field for defense which wears out a shorthanded group with low confidence..

truly this defense has looked pretty bad but if you break down the game flow how it unfolded and when it did, theres a lot more to these losses then defense even though we need to get better,
al this talk we could be 0-5 is stupid, seriously go back and watch without emotion and i say we could easily have cleaned up half the mistakes or bad decsions and be 3-2 or 4-1

its about perspective IMHO and it may not look lie it but the defense as bad as they are are not as Historically Bad as they are being

it sux how much offense and st have put more pressure on defense that didnt need it ad a few refs issues in there and a weak division we have plenty of hope to get this on the right path..

clean up the offensive mistake we cant give the other team a chance to play our defense even more. Spotting teams points is not a fair assessment of our defense IMO. Yes its bad but historically bad, i disagree..i see some life in them and the NYG game should have been easily a 17 point win , this was not on the defense that 37 points was needed to win..

Nolan try this game with a second and thirth level blitzes, and Jaylon blitzes . if you can't read, blitz with him

Does Dallas script its first few offensive series? That is the only thing I can think of, they have poor script writer.

Part of it is gaps, but mostly, they are getting outmanned.

I didn't watch the NYG game as closely yet, but all day against Cleveland it was 5 blockers against 4 defenders. It doesn't matter who your personnel is when you have that.
Especially if the guy you paid to eat up two blockers is not eating up two blockers
