I'm just glad we do have a first round pick and this idiot didn't trade it for a wide receiver.

Moving Guyton to right tackle is a good idea. We'll get him some experience and it will get Steele on the bench where he belongs. He needs to be cut after this season. He's been horrible since signing that extension but that's not surprising.

The only game I see us winning the rest of the year is against Carolina and even that is a big if. We are that bad.
We ain't passed the trade deadline yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure you can call someone who has been involved in football for nearly 40 years from socks to jocks "not a football guy". I think saying he sucks as a football guy is more appropriate.
He's not a football guy. He's a rich man who has the ability to buy a franchise. You think he built those teams in the 90s? No Jimmy was the GM

This team is built very badly. Like a GM would build it who is not a football guy.

Team draft well is what I heard. Now the team across the field today have drafted well and it showed the difference to day. All the pieces on the DL had Dak foggy from the beginning.

Yeah, I've always argued against that. The draft is the tool by which teams build a super bowl contender. If your team is not a super bowl contender, then you did not draft well.

One could make the argument that when you lose your top three pass rushers and sadly that would include the rookie.
When you have two good DBs and sadly one of those is a rookie. You can understand the defense struggling. And injuries are not part of the blame from the FO.

However when you do not go into FA and get a good NT and a good 3 tech to help Odiggy....then the FO is to blame because they knew that the rush defense needed help.

However when you do not address the RB situation other than to bring in a washed up Zeke and do not bother to draft a RB....That IS on the front office as well.

They knew coming into the season that this team needed help in the running game on offense and help with the rush defense...and did not do anything of note in FA or the Draft.

Now the LB play has improved but that might be the only portion of the defense that has improved.

When the CBs all get healthy we should have good CB play and depth. However i think it is time to improve the safeties on this team.

Whether you are pro dak, anti dak or somewhere in the middle. Whether he is the highest paid in the league or even if he was on a lower end contract.....It is obvious that this team needs a running game for him to thrive. When the opposing defenses do not have to worry about the run, they can just go after the QB and play decent coverage.

Loved when the Cowboys drafted him, especially when the alternate possible draft pick would have been terrible. Loved how he has played over the years. But it is time for the Cowboys to move on from Zack Martin. This year he has not been the Martin we have known over the years.

Not sure if they will stick with Guyton and LT or not. Maybe they need to move him to RT, Keep Smith at LT. Have bass man one of the G spots
Next year in the draft get a good G to replace Martin. I think it will be easier for them to get a good G after day one than an OT.

As far as pinning your hopes on the Cowboys trading for a player to help this year...you know the chances of them trading for a quality player is slim to none. It would be a cheap player that is a role player or a cheap player that is well past his prime.

Back to the running game gripe. We have a RB group on this team that would be a backup role player at best on any other team. No team would have any of these guys as a starter. Again this is on the Front Office for not taking a RB in the first two days of the last couple of drafts and not getting a good one via FA or Trade. Oh and how about they not run the ball on first down when they do try to run. Seems so predictable.

One other thing. This coaching staff is on one year contracts. So far I have not seen anything from the HC/OC and DC that would be a compelling argument to bring them back.

I would love to see what the OC from Detroit could do with this team. He is young and innovative...which we have not had in some time.
I love our DB coach Al Harris and am curious if he would be a good DC or not.
Frankly, right now Al Harris is the one must stay coach. I think WR coach Prince has been decent as well as TE coach Lunda. Do not think they are must stay coaches though but would like them.

I kind of would like them to get a coach like Dan Campbell. The reason I like Campbell as a HC is that the players do like him but he is still a HC that will get on their butts and wants tough players. I think that we need innovative coaches that the players can like but also respect.

I said it in one of the game threads. I have never been a person to root for the team to tank the season. However with the way things are going right now the way they are playing, they will not have to tank...they will just be bad enough to get a decent draft pick unless they have some crazy turn around.

If they do have a record that is going to give us a decent draft pick because we are out of the playoff hunt it also means that the Dallas Cowboys official site will start the Draft show early. It has became the only show I watch on the site.

Ok I have ranted long enough. Thankfully the pain pills I am on have dulled me down some...well that and the Cowboys FO over the years.

So Give me your rants, give me your thoughts.

What say YOU?
I agree with all with one exception---and believe me, I hung on longer than most---but if it is Jerry making the deals and conducting the drafts, we have no hope. This team needs to be sold off for parts. Tyler Smith and Cooper Beebe are solid. Ferguson is solid. But the entire payroll going to Dak and CeeDee means there was nothing left for ANY of the other need positions. I'm beyond disgusted. I saw some truly great Cowboy teams in the 1970s, then a new revival in the 1990s. Horrible what has happened here.

With Stephen being cheap in FA...this team lives and dies with the draft.
People do not like to hear it, but they are one of the best drafting teams in the NFL

Problem is that even the best drafting teams can make mistakes, can not have players fall to them they want and also can be victims of years when the draft is full of crappy players. So it only takes one bad draft to really hurt the team when the team relies on the draft so heavily.

But we know Jerry is not leaving until he can no longer physically be in charge. And I am not sure if Stephen would actually want to be the GM like daddy or actually name a GM.

There is prisoner of the moment and then there’s recognizing the overall big picture.

Let’s say you said the cowboys would go 10-7 this year and make the playoffs. Who would those 7 losses be to? Definitely DET, definitely BAL, Saints was iffy depending on how good they are.

Still get to play NYG, CAR, ATL, maybe split with WAS, that’s 7 wins. Just need to pull out a few more and things are as expected.

Dallas is 3-3, the best team in the division just got punked and is only a game ahead. Injured players are coming back, bye came at the perfect time. They can beat you by 40, but they can’t add more than 1 loss. It’s not panic time yet, far from it.

1. Dak hasn't played like a top ten qb, even top 15 is debatable.
2. The run defense is horrible, this is more on the FO then coaching, you can't coach talent.
3. The second best wr seems to be Turpin. No receiver, but Lamb and Turpin cause any sort of separation. The coaching and play calling has to take some accountability. It seems like every team causes more separation.
4. The oline is the worst it's been in years 5+.
5. Diggs didn't play well today, expect more of games like this coming off a year plus injury.
6. I can't remember the game where we got a bunch of calls our way, they definitely missed some PI's and illegal contacts on crucial downs (this would of just saved face, we got manhandled.)

They're not going anywhere this year.
But to not even be able to consider drafting a 1st round QB because of the failed investment in this current one is about as low as it gets for my future expectations.

4 more years of this crap, smdh.

Cowboys!

Whether the root cause lies with the front office, the coaches, players or, most likely, a combination of all three, this team looked totally unprepared and, quite frankly, totally unprofessional.

Ultimately, JJ owns this mess and deserves all the ridicule and mockery headed his way

Our top two problems from last year basically got ingnored. You could even argue became bigger problems this year. How is that for the most experienced GM in the NFL???
