One could make the argument that when you lose your top three pass rushers and sadly that would include the rookie.
When you have two good DBs and sadly one of those is a rookie. You can understand the defense struggling. And injuries are not part of the blame from the FO.

However when you do not go into FA and get a good NT and a good 3 tech to help Odiggy....then the FO is to blame because they knew that the rush defense needed help.

However when you do not address the RB situation other than to bring in a washed up Zeke and do not bother to draft a RB....That IS on the front office as well.

They knew coming into the season that this team needed help in the running game on offense and help with the rush defense...and did not do anything of note in FA or the Draft.

Now the LB play has improved but that might be the only portion of the defense that has improved.

When the CBs all get healthy we should have good CB play and depth. However i think it is time to improve the safeties on this team.

Whether you are pro dak, anti dak or somewhere in the middle. Whether he is the highest paid in the league or even if he was on a lower end contract.....It is obvious that this team needs a running game for him to thrive. When the opposing defenses do not have to worry about the run, they can just go after the QB and play decent coverage.

Loved when the Cowboys drafted him, especially when the alternate possible draft pick would have been terrible. Loved how he has played over the years. But it is time for the Cowboys to move on from Zack Martin. This year he has not been the Martin we have known over the years.

Not sure if they will stick with Guyton and LT or not. Maybe they need to move him to RT, Keep Smith at LT. Have bass man one of the G spots
Next year in the draft get a good G to replace Martin. I think it will be easier for them to get a good G after day one than an OT.

As far as pinning your hopes on the Cowboys trading for a player to help this year...you know the chances of them trading for a quality player is slim to none. It would be a cheap player that is a role player or a cheap player that is well past his prime.

Back to the running game gripe. We have a RB group on this team that would be a backup role player at best on any other team. No team would have any of these guys as a starter. Again this is on the Front Office for not taking a RB in the first two days of the last couple of drafts and not getting a good one via FA or Trade. Oh and how about they not run the ball on first down when they do try to run. Seems so predictable.

One other thing. This coaching staff is on one year contracts. So far I have not seen anything from the HC/OC and DC that would be a compelling argument to bring them back.

I would love to see what the OC from Detroit could do with this team. He is young and innovative...which we have not had in some time.
I love our DB coach Al Harris and am curious if he would be a good DC or not.
Frankly, right now Al Harris is the one must stay coach. I think WR coach Prince has been decent as well as TE coach Lunda. Do not think they are must stay coaches though but would like them.

I kind of would like them to get a coach like Dan Campbell. The reason I like Campbell as a HC is that the players do like him but he is still a HC that will get on their butts and wants tough players. I think that we need innovative coaches that the players can like but also respect.

I said it in one of the game threads. I have never been a person to root for the team to tank the season. However with the way things are going right now the way they are playing, they will not have to tank...they will just be bad enough to get a decent draft pick unless they have some crazy turn around.

If they do have a record that is going to give us a decent draft pick because we are out of the playoff hunt it also means that the Dallas Cowboys official site will start the Draft show early. It has became the only show I watch on the site.

Ok I have ranted long enough. Thankfully the pain pills I am on have dulled me down some...well that and the Cowboys FO over the years.

So Give me your rants, give me your thoughts.

What say YOU?
So very well said, BP! Truly appreciate your words of wisdom. So many facts you stated. I would say this offense needs 1 more legit WR who can help take double teams off of CeeDee, but everything else of need you mentioned was spot on.

Zero playmakers outside of Lamb. Zero. How did we all know this was going to happen but Jerruh didn’t? Maybe he did and he just doesn’t care? Or maybe he’s just that bad of a GM?

I just looked at the Steele contract. I suspect he will be a Cowboy next year also. Maybe try him at Guard.

Its a poorly constructed team. It never had a chance. On offense, we have no threat at rb which makes defending us very easy. Teams don't have to play the safeties near the LOS anymore. That alone puts the offense at a big disadvantage every week.

Dak is a flawed decision maker and struggles when he is not surrounded by playmakers. But then to not give him veteran blind side protection is just inexcusable. Tyler Guyton is a rookie LT project. The dude played tackle in college for one year and it was on the right side. To think he was anything in the ballpark of Tyron Smith is just the pinnacle of stupidity and smoking way too much hopium even for Jerry.

The defense is also flawed and struggled stopping the run last year. This year we are bottom 10 easily. Even with Micah and DLAW healthy, this was not a top tier defense.

I’m done with this twenty year ‘tweaking’ process. It obviously doesn’t work.

This thing needs to be nuked. Totally blown up.

Trouble is that the Jones boys were suckered in and got locked into paying huge money to a quarterback that is clearly not worth it.

And now any new coaching staff will have to be willing to work under that handicap.

Another thing is that every player they give a huge contract to ultimately betrays their trust and investment.

Prescott is obviously the biggest one.

But Zeke tanked as soon as he got paid.

Steele hasn’t been the same guy since his payday.

Zack Martin held the team up for one last deal when he knew he was cooked. And he won.

Diggs hasn’t been the same guy since his extension and injury either.

Nobody they’ve paid has been as good as they were before.

And this coaching staff brings nothing to the table.

No creativity on offense, and no fundamentals on defense.

This team is a mess.

I’ll be surprised if they win 7 games this year.

Yup I give the defense a small pass. These young corners shouldn't even be playing but they are and they are t bad. I'm way more irritated at the offense. Their lack of addressing the RB but then i believe Jerry mandated Zeke gets carries though he clearly sucks. 6 games in and 90 million dollar investment into 2 guys looks to be a bust as they are using the same playbook. Coaches do not give these guys any schematic advantage at all.

The front office decisions are very questionable - that really limits us

- We had a chance to sign free agent stud RB to greatly help Dak .. but we blew that big time
We were not gonna sign a big name defender (or offensive) to a big contract. Cap boy does not prefer that kind of approach.
We play the " Money Ball " approach, strike gold with bargain cheap FA/trades Gilmore, Brandin Cooks - and think that should be enuff and be content.

- We're not on the Ravens, Chiefs, Niners, even the Lions level of structure, in either player personnel ..or coaching. And it's showing.

This is a poorly built team. What's is our identity? There isn't one. No direction. It's a front office problem and you can fire the coach and get a new QB it's just going to continue to happen.
^^^ 100%

The only direction is being addicted to rookie contracts so they can roll money each year and thus not pay it out.

my rant is i hope they lose every game by 50+

jerry and stephen both need a wake up call they are both maybe 1% as smart as they think they are
I used to scoff at comments like this.
Now it makes total sense to me.
This team needs to hit bottom, and sober up like helpless alcoholic.
This team needs an enema.

I’m right there with you. It’s much more enjoyable pulling for the curtain to finally fall on Jerry.

It won’t matter they are stuck in their ways. Their formula is to expect to hit big on every draft pick and supplement with bargain priced FA’s. Being frugal and dumb isn’t a good combination in running an NFL franchise

The roster is a disaster. Jerry deluded himself into thinking that Dak could carry this team despite proof otherwise. Now the roster will have to be rebuilt to accommodate Dak, and by the time the job is done, Dak will be 35. Just absolutely horrible roster management.
Jerry deluded himself into thinking his family is capable of managing an NFL roster.

Jerry has a huge ego. Anything to destroy it works for me. I hope the boos and bags come out at the stadium.

Nice post.

Yeah we all had the same gripes during the off season. No one, is good enough at the draft to forego free agency year in and year out. It's completely incompetent to do so.

Absolutely Dak needs a run game, as does almost every qb. This is part of why I was ok letting him go. It was obvious they weren't going to put the pieces around him. At the same time I also had zero confidence they'd use the cap savings to make us better. In the end it was a big fat whatever from me.

The coaches bring nothing to the table. The oline coach was one of the primary coaches I wanted gone. He does have talent there, and we seem to be doing nothing with it.

Last week they went away from the zone blocking scheme and began to work Pittsburgh over. This week I hope they didn't go right back to it, but suspect they did. The 4th and two play earlier in the game really irritated me. We had no one open at all. We can't even scheme a freaking two yard gain on fourth. Wth do these clowns get paid for?

I don’t see this year ending well at all. I predicted one and done in the playoffs. Now it's hard to imagine making it that far. This team doesn't just get beat. They get demoralized.

Hate to say it as well, but it's probably our only chance at wholesale changes. Odds are we get another re-tread though, and nothing else changes in philosophy.

I really, really like Al Harris but no coach should “stay.”

You immediately castrate the Head Coach when you assign him his assistants. Parcells was assigned Zimmer. Phillips was assigned Garrett. Garrett was assigned Monte Kiffin and Rod Marinelli. McCarthy was assigned Kellen.

I hate it but accept that Jerry will stay as GM but of this team is going to have any success you have to allow the new Head Coach and to run the on field product. He has to be able to name his own staff and not have anyone pushed on him by the football stupid Jones.
