The roster is a disaster. Jerry deluded himself into thinking that Dak could carry this team despite proof otherwise. Now the roster will have to be rebuilt to accommodate Dak, and by the time the job is done, Dak will be 35. Just absolutely horrible roster management.
And he’ll still suck

One could make the argument that when you lose your top three pass rushers and sadly that would include the rookie.
When you have two good DBs and sadly one of those is a rookie. You can understand the defense struggling. And injuries are not part of the blame from the FO.

However when you do not go into FA and get a good NT and a good 3 tech to help Odiggy....then the FO is to blame because they knew that the rush defense needed help.

However when you do not address the RB situation other than to bring in a washed up Zeke and do not bother to draft a RB....That IS on the front office as well.

They knew coming into the season that this team needed help in the running game on offense and help with the rush defense...and did not do anything of note in FA or the Draft.

Now the LB play has improved but that might be the only portion of the defense that has improved.

When the CBs all get healthy we should have good CB play and depth. However i think it is time to improve the safeties on this team.

Whether you are pro dak, anti dak or somewhere in the middle. Whether he is the highest paid in the league or even if he was on a lower end contract.....It is obvious that this team needs a running game for him to thrive. When the opposing defenses do not have to worry about the run, they can just go after the QB and play decent coverage.

Loved when the Cowboys drafted him, especially when the alternate possible draft pick would have been terrible. Loved how he has played over the years. But it is time for the Cowboys to move on from Zack Martin. This year he has not been the Martin we have known over the years.

Not sure if they will stick with Guyton and LT or not. Maybe they need to move him to RT, Keep Smith at LT. Have bass man one of the G spots
Next year in the draft get a good G to replace Martin. I think it will be easier for them to get a good G after day one than an OT.

As far as pinning your hopes on the Cowboys trading for a player to help this year...you know the chances of them trading for a quality player is slim to none. It would be a cheap player that is a role player or a cheap player that is well past his prime.

Back to the running game gripe. We have a RB group on this team that would be a backup role player at best on any other team. No team would have any of these guys as a starter. Again this is on the Front Office for not taking a RB in the first two days of the last couple of drafts and not getting a good one via FA or Trade. Oh and how about they not run the ball on first down when they do try to run. Seems so predictable.

One other thing. This coaching staff is on one year contracts. So far I have not seen anything from the HC/OC and DC that would be a compelling argument to bring them back.

I would love to see what the OC from Detroit could do with this team. He is young and innovative...which we have not had in some time.
I love our DB coach Al Harris and am curious if he would be a good DC or not.
Frankly, right now Al Harris is the one must stay coach. I think WR coach Prince has been decent as well as TE coach Lunda. Do not think they are must stay coaches though but would like them.

I kind of would like them to get a coach like Dan Campbell. The reason I like Campbell as a HC is that the players do like him but he is still a HC that will get on their butts and wants tough players. I think that we need innovative coaches that the players can like but also respect.

I said it in one of the game threads. I have never been a person to root for the team to tank the season. However with the way things are going right now the way they are playing, they will not have to tank...they will just be bad enough to get a decent draft pick unless they have some crazy turn around.

If they do have a record that is going to give us a decent draft pick because we are out of the playoff hunt it also means that the Dallas Cowboys official site will start the Draft show early. It has became the only show I watch on the site.

Ok I have ranted long enough. Thankfully the pain pills I am on have dulled me down some...well that and the Cowboys FO over the years.

So Give me your rants, give me your thoughts.

What say YOU?

Yup I give the defense a small pass. These young corners shouldn't even be playing but they are and they are t bad. I'm way more irritated at the offense. Their lack of addressing the RB but then i believe Jerry mandated Zeke gets carries though he clearly sucks. 6 games in and 90 million dollar investment into 2 guys looks to be a bust as they are using the same playbook. Coaches do not give these guys any schematic advantage at all.
Can't be irritated with the offense. Lack of addressing the RB position is not an offensive problem. That is a GM problem.

With Stephen being cheap in FA...this team lives and dies with the draft.
People do not like to hear it, but they are one of the best drafting teams in the NFL

Problem is that even the best drafting teams can make mistakes, can not have players fall to them they want and also can be victims of years when the draft is full of crappy players. So it only takes one bad draft to really hurt the team when the team relies on the draft so heavily.

But we know Jerry is not leaving until he can no longer physically be in charge. And I am not sure if Stephen would actually want to be the GM like daddy or actually name a GM.
I've thought about this also, and wonder if Will McClay possibly becomes the GM after Jerry retires.

As others have said, they were exposed in the Green Bay game. In my humble opinion, it has nothing to do with playing at home and is about the match ups. Any dynamic/aggressive offense that is physical will shred the D because they didn’t address the defensive line and now they are dealing with injuries. Once the d gets shredded, the offense is toast…no running game (rb wasn’t properly address in off season), lack of playmakers, and o line is not good…at least Guyton (needs time), Martin (pains me to say it) and Steele haven‘t been. Smith and Beebe have been solid. And Dak has flat out sucked this year for the most part. Although, as has been said repeatedly, with a running game and decent oline, he can be a decent to good qb. Or at least he has shown he could be…maybe that is no longer true.

Browns, Giants and Steelers do not have dynamic offenses. Their offenses didn’t jump down their throats so the Cowboys offense was able to do enough and didn’t have to try and force every possession to keep pace.

But to get steam rolled that bad, three times already this season…ehhh. I have to look at coaching imo. But Jerry is the GM, made the personnel decisions, decided to pay Dak that contract, etc. It’s a mess. A full rebuild without a true GM isn’t going to be any better. Sorry, just my opinions. Go Cowboys:)!

There’s no commitment to excellence with the Cowboys. The team doesn’t seem to mind being embarrassed. We haven’t seen the last of these beat downs this season.

What say YOU?
1. I try not to get too high after a win or too low after a loss but it is getting really old watching this team make the same mistakes year after year.

2. I was not really “for” us to resign Dak and make him the highest paid player, but if you are going to do that you have to set him up to succeed. That includes a running game, which we do not have.

3. This team’s salary cap management sucks. Dak, Lamb and a few others will eat up far too much of the cap over the next 4 years. You can’t keep everyone.

When you know you can’t keep all of your players prioritize which ones you want to pay. Martin is not just starting to decline. He’s been in a decline for several years. Instead of paying him last offseason they should have traded him for picks and replaced him with a cheaper, acceptable substitute.

4. The RB stable is absolutely horrid. None of these guys could start for any other team. They might not even be a #2. They are that bad.

5. The Schoonmaker pick still pisses me off. That’s such a wasted pick. How much better would this team be if we had drafted a RB, a DT or even a WR with that pick?

6. This team has to stop paying for past performance and paying average players too money.

7. I would flip Parsons for picks and a player. He’s a dominant player but at some point he will lose his speed due to injury and he will not be worth his QB range cap hit.

8. We need DTs, WR and RB in the worst way. Why we haven’t given Cook a legit shot at RB doesn’t make sense.

9. Year after year of mediocrity is frustrating me to no end. I’ve been a season ticket holder for around 20-25 years. I’m just totally fed up with the same old issues year after year.

10. I don’t know if I can stand watching Dak do the same stupid BS year after year. His mental processing ability is like a JR high QB. It’s so frustrating to watch.

Now look at Martin's contract for next year.

Be ready to puke. $26M in Dead Cap hit.
That was such a stupid extension. Much like all the Witten extensions, Sean Lee, and a few others that continued to get paid long after their viability was gone.

We could have had O'Cyrus. He was there staring us in the face and we went with Schoonmaker because we had no idea who Ferguson was.

We could have traded Martin?

Jerry once again got caught with his pants down. He had no idea that the Martin hold out was coming.

As far as I’m concerned….

This is a GREAT draft year so I don’t mind a sucky record….

All in was crap….you would address positions of need with high caliber players if you wanted to go “all in”

There’s no way MM or Dak should’ve been bought back….i like both but they reached their ceiling already ……there’s GREAT franchise building qbs coming out this year and game breaking rb’s that you can get in the second round

I haven’t watched a second of cowboys action this year and this is why….its udder (yes udder as in cow) stupidity and foolishness to expect anything from this team….
Good for you as I feel the same, I’m a lifelong fan but refuse to support this team and JJ.
I felt nothing yesterday unlike some people on here who don’t get the message and still believe In Jerry and the Cowturds…

Want to make a difference… stop watching! Going to games! Buying merchandise that you will not wear outdoors after a loss etc…
Do that and knock them off from being the richest franchise and you’ll see Jerry move heaven and hell to make them relevant again

They are all GM problems. Too heavy team with underperforming extremely overpaid players with a clueless GM.
