My senseless thoughts on the flavors of the month

I feel the need to clarify my position on one thing particularly (as well as a few other issues). That one thing is Martellus Bennett. Yes. Initially my thought was "what's the big deal? He's young.. yadda yadda yadda" The more and more I think about how this one year guy managed to pull off a YT video with the trademarked Dallas Cowboys emblem included the more I see just how utterly ridiculous it was for him to have even managed to come up with that idea. Yes. I love Rap/Hip Hop, etc but time has allowed me to see beyond the fact that he was rapping. He was saying some things that young professionals in his position shouldn't be saying.. let along on freaking YT. We all have our little indiscretions... He just has to realize that the media will scrutinize everything he does. Every single thing… I think MB will be fine but just wanted to clarify my position after having had some time to ponder it all...

About TO, Yes... I think he is a tremendous talent. Yes. He loves the media spotlight. Yes. He demands the ball. Yes. He can also consider stepping away from the media spotlight and just playing ball. I think he did that this year (for the most part). The guy has done nothing to warrant the intense backlash he receives on this board and I will continue to support him as a member of the Dallas Cowboys until that day comes where he is no longer contributing with the star on his helmet. Some say he needs to go immediately. Some, like me, believe there is still immense value in him if used properly. I would love to see what could happen with TO and RW11 utilized correctly in an offense that features the best that Jason Garret can possibly put forth. TO is a leader but he cannot do it alone. This leads me to my next topic. Tony Romo...

I think Tony came around at the right time. We obviously were going nowhere fast with bleedslow and there was a desperate need by our overzealous GM/Owner to anoint the next great Cowboys QB. Romo comes along and puts up some numbers. He raises enough eyebrows to cement his position as the QB of the future in Dallas. I admittedly was a huge Romosapien. I have since tempered my love (no homo) for one Tony Romo. One cannot continue to make extremely bad decisions at critical times at the QB position. If there's nothing there throw the freaking ball away. He will achieve more respect by living to fight another down rather than simply chucking it in the air with hopes that it will land in the hands of a Dallas Cowboy. He also simply has to learn to protect the ball. That gunslinger mentality will always be there. It is ingrained in his head. I just hope he can truly step up and be the leader they need him to be on the offensive side of the ball. Hell, in the locker room too... No one wants an aw shucks personality at the QB position. Sadly, he may have to go it alone since there really is no one there right now to truly mentor him and keep him focused on the task. This leads into my next issue...

Wade and Jason.... What a freaking mess. How does a HC succeed when you sign the OC with the caveat that he will soon become the HC? I am in no way, shape, or form defending Wade. I want him gone yesterday... I just find much humor in some of the moves Jerry makes. Garrett has a long way to go. He should be squarely focused on just learning how to become a successful coordinator. Forget about a HC position right now. Put a truly dynamic, successful, complex offensive product on the field and let your success speak for itself.

Then there is Wade's proclamation at the end of the season that he realizes he needs to take a tougher stance with his guys. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Seriously... These are grown *** men. Wade has already set a precedent at Valley Ranch and we are seeing the results right now in the form of a huge fathead sized circus atmosphere. I am sorry but there is no way these guys are going to take Wade seriously next year with his new "tougher" stance... We go into the season with these coaches still in place and you might as well stock up on the heartburn and blood pressure medicine ahead of time. It is going to be a long one.

Lastly, Jerry Jones... I respect Jerry for his desire to succeed. I just think he needs a little help with making the right decisions in order to realize true success. He has put together an incredible pool of talent. Yet still, if you don't surround yourself with great coaches and someone in a capacity to make the tough decisions (dare I say a GM) you are not going to be very successful. If we are going to come out of the NFCE anytime soon we had better do some deep soul searching. Look at what the Eagles did... McFlabb had practically no one to throw the ball to. They did it with a QB and a RB. That is basically it! I wonder how they have been able to be successful with (IMO) far less talent than us... The answer? Coaching! I would take Andy Reid over doughboy in a heartbeat. Philly is a prime example of what good coaching can do for a team. Right now, we simply don't have good coaching. Until Jerry searches within his soul and makes some tough decisions, we will not sniff anything resembling a Lombardi.

Regardless, it's truth serum for them. Until some of those more important issues get straightened out our Boys will be sitting back and enjoying the playoffs as spectators for many years to come.

Interesting post. When I saw the title I thought this was going to be a rant on how fans cling to the latest flavors of the month (See people saying Dallas should have drafted Holmes because of last nights game) and so this wasn't quite what I'd expected out of this post.

Bleu, to be simple about it, I don't think there is anything that can't be fixed on this team by simply having Jerry put a strong, disciplined and detail-oriented HC in place, letting him build his own staff of people on the same page, and Jerry stepping back from the day to day operations a lot and simply being a strong voice in personnel as he was when Bill was here.

Strong management can succeed with the seemingly dysfunctional players we have. A strong group of players can sometimes overcome dysfunctional management.

Dysfunctional management + dysfunctional players = Dallas Cowboys = 13 years with no playoff win and counting.

Annything else - including cutting TO - is window dressing. (and yes I still want him gone, my windows would at least look better :p: ).

Legal trouble

Holmes has acknowledged selling drugs on the street corner of his hometown of Belle Glade, Florida as a teenager; he says that his mother's influence and a desire to play professional football made him decide to stop.

Holmes was arrested in Miami Beach, Florida on May 27, 2006 for disorderly conduct. Charges were subsequently dropped after Holmes paid a fine.

Holmes was arrested for a second time on June 18, 2006 for domestic violence and assault in Columbus, Ohio.

On July 7, 2006, Holmes appeared in Franklin County Court in Columbus, Ohio for both a pre-trial regarding the domestic case and hearing regarding the traffic ticket. He plead no contest to the traffic ticket and agreed to pay a fine. While Lashae Boone, the mother of Holmes' daughter and the victim in the assault case, requested that the domestic violence and assault charges be dropped, the prosecutor refused. Boone and their daughter accompanied Holmes to court. The charges were later dropped

On October 23, 2008, Holmes was arrested in Pittsburgh and cited by officers for possession of marijuana.] Holmes released an apology after missing a game, stating that he wished to "focus all of [his] efforts on helping our team win on the field and achieve its ultimate goal."

Not to mention Holmes taking nude pictures of himself and sending them online to girls on dating websites.

Did you catch any of his interviews after the game? Talk about "me first" type of guy. Wow, all he wanted to do was pat himself on the back and talk about how great he is.

Real class act

Good post. I basically agree with everything. Nice to read a post with solid football insight and none of this back and forth nonsense that has saturated the board.

I agree. This is the recipe for success in Dallas IMO.

Wow. Nice rap sheet. Thank goodness we didn't take him. For some strange reason I just don't see things working out in Big D the way they have worked out in Pittsburgh for him.

Yeah... I'm the same way. Who want's to see them cheesing it up in celebration of #6. When Roethlisberger tossed that game winning pass to Holmes I began toe ritual of turning everything off and going to bed.
I was so excited for AZ when they scored. Then I looked at the time left on the clock and said to myself "uh oh". :(
