I feel the need to clarify my position on one thing particularly (as well as a few other issues). That one thing is Martellus Bennett. Yes. Initially my thought was "what's the big deal? He's young.. yadda yadda yadda" The more and more I think about how this one year guy managed to pull off a YT video with the trademarked Dallas Cowboys emblem included the more I see just how utterly ridiculous it was for him to have even managed to come up with that idea. Yes. I love Rap/Hip Hop, etc but time has allowed me to see beyond the fact that he was rapping. He was saying some things that young professionals in his position shouldn't be saying.. let along on freaking YT. We all have our little indiscretions... He just has to realize that the media will scrutinize everything he does. Every single thing… I think MB will be fine but just wanted to clarify my position after having had some time to ponder it all...
About TO, Yes... I think he is a tremendous talent. Yes. He loves the media spotlight. Yes. He demands the ball. Yes. He can also consider stepping away from the media spotlight and just playing ball. I think he did that this year (for the most part). The guy has done nothing to warrant the intense backlash he receives on this board and I will continue to support him as a member of the Dallas Cowboys until that day comes where he is no longer contributing with the star on his helmet. Some say he needs to go immediately. Some, like me, believe there is still immense value in him if used properly. I would love to see what could happen with TO and RW11 utilized correctly in an offense that features the best that Jason Garret can possibly put forth. TO is a leader but he cannot do it alone. This leads me to my next topic. Tony Romo...
I think Tony came around at the right time. We obviously were going nowhere fast with bleedslow and there was a desperate need by our overzealous GM/Owner to anoint the next great Cowboys QB. Romo comes along and puts up some numbers. He raises enough eyebrows to cement his position as the QB of the future in Dallas. I admittedly was a huge Romosapien. I have since tempered my love (no homo) for one Tony Romo. One cannot continue to make extremely bad decisions at critical times at the QB position. If there's nothing there throw the freaking ball away. He will achieve more respect by living to fight another down rather than simply chucking it in the air with hopes that it will land in the hands of a Dallas Cowboy. He also simply has to learn to protect the ball. That gunslinger mentality will always be there. It is ingrained in his head. I just hope he can truly step up and be the leader they need him to be on the offensive side of the ball. Hell, in the locker room too... No one wants an aw shucks personality at the QB position. Sadly, he may have to go it alone since there really is no one there right now to truly mentor him and keep him focused on the task. This leads into my next issue...
Wade and Jason.... What a freaking mess. How does a HC succeed when you sign the OC with the caveat that he will soon become the HC? I am in no way, shape, or form defending Wade. I want him gone yesterday... I just find much humor in some of the moves Jerry makes. Garrett has a long way to go. He should be squarely focused on just learning how to become a successful coordinator. Forget about a HC position right now. Put a truly dynamic, successful, complex offensive product on the field and let your success speak for itself.
Then there is Wade's proclamation at the end of the season that he realizes he needs to take a tougher stance with his guys. Seriously... These are grown *** men. Wade has already set a precedent at Valley Ranch and we are seeing the results right now in the form of a huge fathead sized circus atmosphere. I am sorry but there is no way these guys are going to take Wade seriously next year with his new "tougher" stance... We go into the season with these coaches still in place and you might as well stock up on the heartburn and blood pressure medicine ahead of time. It is going to be a long one.
Lastly, Jerry Jones... I respect Jerry for his desire to succeed. I just think he needs a little help with making the right decisions in order to realize true success. He has put together an incredible pool of talent. Yet still, if you don't surround yourself with great coaches and someone in a capacity to make the tough decisions (dare I say a GM) you are not going to be very successful. If we are going to come out of the NFCE anytime soon we had better do some deep soul searching. Look at what the Eagles did... McFlabb had practically no one to throw the ball to. They did it with a QB and a RB. That is basically it! I wonder how they have been able to be successful with (IMO) far less talent than us... The answer? Coaching! I would take Andy Reid over doughboy in a heartbeat. Philly is a prime example of what good coaching can do for a team. Right now, we simply don't have good coaching. Until Jerry searches within his soul and makes some tough decisions, we will not sniff anything resembling a Lombardi.
